Woohoo! My husband was dead set against me having weight loss surgery. During the months prior to surgery my husband was mad, angry, mean and even threatened me with divorce if I went through with it.
Today he is my biggest advocate. He comments all the time about what a great job I am doing. I am 4 months out and down a total of 85 lbs of which 46lbs is post-op. I am hoping to hit onederland for New Years (4 more pounds to go).
Saturday morning I was on my local Harley-Davidson web-sight looking for a new leather coat for this spring because my 3W coat is now way too big. While I was there I happened to browse the bikes they had in stock. I mentioned to my hubby about one of them later that morning and he suggested we go take a look.
When we go to the dealership I looked at the one that I had mentioned and wasn't quite as happy with it as I thought I would be. So to my surprise my husband said that I work so hard at everything that I deserve anything I want. I was like a kid in a candy store. I must have sat on 25 bikes.
I found a fully dressed (saddle bags and fairing) fatboy. OMG....I am in love. She is being delivered today or tomorrow! When we went to dinner at the in-laws yesterday he was bragging out how good I am going to look sitting on the bike.
Oh and I also got a new coat. It is an XL.

Just my two cents...not all newbies are internet savvy. They might start new threads not knowing how to search for their question. They might not even be used to a computer. They might not know forum "etiquette". Many people may not have had any kind of surgery before. Speaking from my own experience, even though my doctor gave me information, most of it really didn't sink in until after my surgery. My first pre-op visit I had a whole list of questions for him. I joined this forum to get additional information from people who already went through what I was currently experiencing and hoping to learn from their mistakes, and also any tips or advice. All the vets were new once, and since they are now experienced, may tend to forget what it is like to be new. Obviously this place is meant to be informative and fun. When it no longer meets your needs, then it is time to move on. You will keep in contact with those you have gotten to be close to.

OK, here's my take on it for what it's worth. I've thought about leaving more than once. It's hard at times to not be judgmental but to also help people to understand accountability. You have to be rational about the band and follow the darn rules...you just have to..it's that simple. If you want to fail, it's easy to do so. Even if you don't want to fail, it's easy to do so. We all know this even if we don't admit to it.
And it's true...you see the same topics over and over. But I try to remember that these are not the same topics to those going through these issues/concerns for the first time.
I do my best to recall how scared I was a year ago, and how this forum helped me to really get a better handle on what what happening. I only knew one person who had been banded and all she did was tell me how great it was without giving me the details I needed. I got those details and personal experiences here and I can't begin to say how much that helped me.
Now almost a year post banded, I am fortunate enough to be successful at it, and as such I try to inspire those who are looking for said inspiration. Every once in a while, someone tells me how important my posts are to them and in the end...that's why I stay.
Oh...and one more thing. I've made some really amazing connections on this site..and with people I'd have never met otherwise. I've made friends and confidants here..and that means alot to me.

this thread is not a slam to newbies or anyone else
    let me get this straight
who am i to judge and who am i to say do it this way etc....that is not me
most of us who post often absolutely do try to offer suggestions
i do however get frustrated when some people chose not to follow their dr's advice...intentionally
and post it.......i see it all the time (on this forum and other wls forums)...but hey, its their rodeo
i will continue to try and encorage anyone because i am still newbie to this band thing and will
always seek guidance/support......sure i am banded 18 months, but i am new to fills, pb'ing etc as i havent
had the priviledge of enjoying those yet.....
again, seek support guidance but always do what one's one dr recommends
no matter what one reads on here or anywhere on the web......

And oh yeah, since I smoked 19 years, I say this in the most loving way.... you stink. You stink. You stink. You stink. You don't notice, but everyone else does. I didn't really even quit for my health. I quit because it's nasty stinky habit.

no no not exceptable. yes we are new but we depend on all the guidance vet's give us. just a like on a response i make is enough to give me a lift. please stay and help out. i do understand if it's getting to you but remember for every 1 person that doesn't except what valuable info you provide there are many many of us that need that mature advice. there are a lot of ppl that have not even posted yet. just watching from the sidelines. i did that for awhile. i learned so much from you guys. i was all alone. my surgeon moved to florida and no support groups. i depended on what i read and learned here. and still learning. and i know i am heading into a different phase of my band as i pass the 6 mos. mark. i need to learn how to relax and just except my new life style. not bent over a food diary and books and food scales. this is the mature wisdom i need from vet's.

Just had my first aftercare appointment and didn't need an adjustment, yet. She said that is normal with people who had a hiatal hernia repair. I'll probably need one by next month. Otherwise, I am down 21 pounds and doing well and can now transition to solid foods. Yay!

Hope all the new bandsters are doing well! Good luck to those having surgery soon! I had my stitches and staples out yesterday, THANK GOD! It seemed like the staples were just digging into my stomach with the slightest move. I can finally put neosporin over the incisions and some Vitamin E oil. I am finally cleared for mushies for the next 2 weeks, then solids for 2 weeks, and I go in for my first fill. Started on a Protein Drink today, it's the kind that comes in a big jug that you mix up yourself. I wish I could find some pre-made, I will have to look on the boards to see what others are using. Next week for Thanksgiving will be a challenge. I am going to my sister in laws on Thursday, and then my dads on Friday. I will still be on mushies, so I know I can have mashed potatoes. But I did not tell anyone about my surgery except my husband so not sure how to explain away the fact that I am only eating 2 oz of mashed potatoes LOL My weight is down from my pre-surgery weight but I really don't except major weight loss until after my first fill.

Thanks. I have six days to go. So ready to do this.
My son loves Thanksgiving, it is his favorite day of the year. He looks forward to it and the big spread I always put on. He was gutted when I first told him that the big feast wasn't happening this year. But he was cool about it in a couple of minutes. He gets why. And his grandmother is going to do a smaller Thanksgiving dinner for him and his dad so that they don't miss out and I can take the day off for a change.
To be honest, I'm kind of looking forward to spending the day on my own. My broth and a good book, maybe a good movie or two... Does that sound awful?

Beerx & Kmb-so sorry that things are moving slowly, I hope it gets worked out for you soon!
Tomorrow will be a week since I've had my surgery. I am down about 8 lbs from my pre-surgery prep weight. I can really tell that I get fuller, faster. I don't really worry about what I am going to eat right now since I'm still on a liquid diet. My stomach is still gurgling but it seems to be getting better. Some pain at the incision sites but I know these will take more time to heal. I've been back to work since Tuesday and other than being tired and a little sore I've been fine. I go back to my surgeon next Tuesday and hopefully will be cleared to move onto mushy food. Hope everyone else who has had surgery this month is doing great!

Good morning! Feeling pretty good stil, but I do feel really bloated. Still not hungry, but getting in my fluids and popsicles. Probably heat up some more broth today. I got some vegetable broth, thought I might mix it up with some chicken broth. Stocked up on more Jello. Going to try and be more active today, get some dishes done, etc. Haven't been sleeping for very long, a couple of hours at a time. Haven't had to use nausea meds. LOL I sorta feel like I'm rambling here (must be the drugs)...hope everyone is doing great!

I'm on full liquids as well. Just made some homemade Soup for dinner. I am glad to know someone else is tired today. I feel as if I have slept all day long and still cannot get caught up. But my incisions feel better today and I am way more mobile. Haven't eaten a whole lot today but I really am trying to make sure I keep my Fluid intake up. Glad to hear everyone is doing well!!!

YAY! Finally able to log in and post! Had some issues logging in after the forum change. I am home! My surgery was scheduled for 9:30 am but due to a hospital emergency (not mine), I didn't go in until 1:30 pm! UGH Guess I could have went home and came back but I didn't want to do that, I was already changed and hooked up to iv's etc. The surgery took about an hour. I did not stay overnight. Once out of surgery I ate about 1/2 cup of italian ice (which tasted DELICIOUS!). Once I was in recovery 2 hours and went to the bathroom I was free to go! Stopped on the way home and dropped off prescriptions, pain medicine, an antibiotic, something for nausea and something for heartburn. Got home, went to bed and hubby went back and picked up meds for me. I am on a clear diet for 2 weeks. I go back to surgeon on Tuesday for a check. I feel better than I thought I would. I get spurts of energy, then get tired. I have not been hungry but very thirsty, so drinking Water and apple juice. I may try some chicken broth later today. Tummy is sore, as to be expected. I have been sleeping on and off. Irish, how are you doing!? So glad the surgery is over, now onto healing and getting healthy!

I'm on day 2 post op and can move on to full liquids today as well! I'm doing much better than yesterday, the bloating has gone down and I'm able to burp and pass gas. The walking helps tremendously! I'm still not feeling hungry either.

Day 2 post op can move to full liquids today! Not really hungry but have major head hunger. My worst pain is my neck, throat, and I have a headache and as long as I sit still my stomach doesn't hurt (as long as dogs don't come bounding up!) I get to take a shower today!!!
I am going to try and relax more today than I did yesterday

Congratulations! So happy for you. I am day four post-op and feeling really good. A return of energy but taking it easy. Except for walking, lol. I am doing a lot of that and it feels really good. Pretty sure that is why I'm healing so quickly -- that and not taking narcotics. Still doing a little Tylenol and ibuprofen here and there but not much. Slept through the night two in a row, hallelujah. Have the left shoulder pain but I know it will go away and the incisions aren't bad -- like a cut healing. Whole stomach feels better today - less distended and more normal. Not hungry yet but will have some broth and Soup, etc. I'm on full liquids. Good luck -- wishing you a weekend of relaxation!

So my new birthday was yesterday! November 7 2013 I started my new life! I arrived at the surgery center at 0630 they took me back about 7(time I was suppose to be there) got all hooked up to an IV got a bag of antibiotic and a shot of heparin. Was wheeled back about 830ish and I woke about 945 was home by 11! Felt pretty good some mild stomach pains. Took my pain med and one dose of the anti nausea med and the gas ex strips just in case! Was able to sleep off and on. Woke this morning at 230 with the infamous gas pressure and a sore neck and jaw. Took a gas ex strip and layed back down. I was going to let my kids stay home today, but they both wanted to go to school! Crazy kids so I drove them to the sitters this am it wasn't to horrible! Came home took the pain med and drank some chicken broth. I have been wanting to burp and sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. So far so good! I can't wait for the healing to be done so I can start exercising! Oh the doctor does put saline in the band at time of surgery so I feel a little a head of the game!
So today one day post op I went to the bank and payer my mortgage, did some laundry, picked up kids and went to SAMs club (I used an electric scooter)
How is everyone else doing that was banded!
Ps thankful I can FINALLY post and see others post!
