  2. Hello All! My name is Carlos and I'm scheduled to have my gastric sleeve done on April 2nd by Dr David Suh. I'm currently 6'3 and weigh 360 lbs. Dr Suh has put me on a high Protein low carb diet and is having me take Prilosec and 1000 mg of Vitamin c on a daily basis. My question is will I be put on a liquid diet a couple of weeks prior to surgery? As with any surgery, i'm just a little bit nervous. Do you guys have any suggestions to do before surgery to make it a smoother recovery? Thanks for your help!

Where u self pat with Dr Suh?

How was your experience with him?

    How are you doing now?

  3. And that's why I did not have lapband....so afraid of that happening! What do you do? Get the sleeve or fix band?

I'm getting revision on August 8 with Dr. Suh in Murrieta. Hopefully he can do it in one surgery.

Where you self pay with Dr Suh on your revision?

  4. Hi there. I had my surgery with Dr. Suh Friday 1/11. I'm still at the hospital, but hope I get to go home later today. I too have had my reservations about the surgery, but spent a good amount of time reading these forums and most people have nothing but good things to say about it. I wish you a fast recovery!

We're you self pay with Dr Suh?

  5. I had the band put in twice . 2012 and lost 100 pounds in 3 months cause it slipped and almost killed me then they put it back in in later in 2013 or late 2012 and I did not lose any weight but gained 20 pounds and it was slipping again . So I went to my new wls dr . Dr suh and he revised me to the sleeve in 2,months after may 30 2014 I lost 51 pounds . I happy fir the weight loss and I am still dropping . I to was told and read that I would lose weight slowly but it seems to be coming off fast I stick to his diet plan and like extend it to . Meaning I did broth liquid diet for a month instead of 2 weeks and now I am able to start on crab shrimp and turkey fish but I stay on the 600 cal soft foods for another month . I will know total how much I lose in oct 7 but here are before abd after

  6. Yay! I have him too. My consult is feb. 28th I believe after you consult you have pre op testing (which I proactively started). Then they get a pre auth for surgery and schedule your pre-op appointment. He also wants you to go to a support group meeting and a seminar. I'm going this coming Monday to his seminar. I already did the support group meeting. I hope there isn't a lot of time between the consult and the pre-op appointment. I'm praying for a march surgery date. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' :)' />

    Hope this helps.

How did everything go? I'm a band to sleeve revision, and have my consult with him in a few weeks.

What does he require before the surgery? How quick is his scheduling?

Did you end up using Dr Suh?

Did you pay our of pocket or insurance cover it?

Can you share your experience with me?

  7. What surgery did you have?

    How much have you lost?

How did you come to choose this surgeon?

I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in August of 2015 and have lost 90 pounds, going from squeezing into a size 14 / XL to wearing a size 2/4 and S or XS. I surpassed my goal weight, and have had very minimal negative side effects. My endocrinologist had recommended the VSG to me because other women my age and size with PCOS have benefitted from it, and said that some had gone to Mexico because the costs were so high in Los Angeles (I was quoted $29,000 to $35K, vs $4200 for the same surgery a couple of hours drive away in Mexico). My BMI was under 35 so insurance would not pay for anything. I started researching surgeons in Tijuana and reading reviews from patients, and felt confident with Dr. Garcia. I wrote to several of his patients who'd posted about their experiences for more insight. I'm very pleased.

    Wow congrats!

I'm researching at this point to get a revision. And I live in the inland empire.

  8. I live in LA and had surgery in August of 2015 in Mexico because my BMI was under the insurance eligibility requirement. The surgery itself was only uncomfortable for a few hours rather than painful, and I recovered nicely. I did have to progress through the post-op dietary stages more slowly because my stomach would get a bit upset, but besides that I had no negative side effects. No loose skin, minimal hair loss, and I met my goals. This surgery changed my life for the better, and i hope it will for you as well.

    :)

    Who was your surgeon?

    Anyone here do self pay?

I paid out of pocket for my surgery with Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. It was $4200 which included two nights at the Marriott and ground transportation. I had a very positive experience.

    What surgery did you have?

    How much have you lost?

How did you come to choose this surgeon?

  10. My hubby went to Mexico last June for his Sleeve. There are no follow-ups when you leave. They have their money and they are done with us. I had my surgery here in Oregon by a Bariatric Center With an EXCELLENCE Program for them and the Hospital I went too. I kind of FIRED him and started being seen in Portland Oregon at the OHSU Bariatric Center which I may add is an amazing program. Now when I go in for my normal blood work I just have them add the information that our Bariatric Dr wants and it gets faxed to OHSU. Luckily hubby hasn't had need of a Bariatric Dr. He goes thru the VA so they pretty much handle everything there. If he needed a DR for his Sleeve I know he can go to OHSU for follow ups. Most Dr's I have been told doesn't like to clean up after another surgeon but there are good ones out there that do!!!

That's not true. It completely depends on which surgeon you use. I had my surgery in TJ, I am over two years post-op, and my surgical team STILL checks in with me regularly and will answer any concerns or questions I have immediately via phone or email.

    Who was your surgeon?

  11. Ooh sorry I don't know how much it costs here I've seen in other conversation that in Mexico it's from $4,000 - $7,000

    Thanks!

Yeah seen those post and been looking into that and thought that be an option, up until someone told me horror stories about the surgeons out there :/

    Will keep researching for sure!
