  1. I had mine a little over two years ago. I wish I would not have had the gastric plication. I had no side effects. My recovery was fine. I really needed to go to a place where I could attend support group with the plication. I lost 30 lbs and have gain all but 14 pounds back. This is entirely my fault. I even had the plication check and I had not stretched it out. I have learned to eat around it. Mainly by small frequent meals. My portions are not that big. I was even getting up and eating at night! I am now trying to eat 3 small meals with a focus of increase fruit and vegetables. I crave sweets constantly. I am on day two of no eating at night and staying with eating meals fruits vegetables and no sweets! Good luck!
  2. I am 4 weeks out today and I wake up almost every more with left upper stomach to side pain just under my rib cage?! It goes away within 1-2 hours. I cant tell if it is stomach cramping. I even thought maybe a kidney stone except the pain goes away. Any one else experience this? I have had no real problems since my surgery.
  3. I only lost 30 lbs since my surgery about 14 months ago. I snuck diet pop/soda into my diet which did not help at all with my surgar cravings. I have stopped drinking pop/soda since my doctors visit when I met another gastric plication with band patient who is having a revision due to pop/soda. Totally her surgery is not at 24,000. So snacking and soda is definately my down fall

    Expected stomach capacity

My barium showed at a year the same restriction. It looked perfect. I have found like most of you that some food are easier and less filling then others. I agree protein first and vegetables second. I lost only 30 lbs with my surgery. I still cant eat like I used to so the doctor told me if I go back to my exercise routine I will continue to lose but based on my age, diet and sedentary lifestyle I have reached a plateau. I admit to cheating with foods that have poor nutrition and higher calories. So I am going to add exercise and make better choices.
  5. I am 4 1/2 weeks out and I have eaten almost a cup of food(chili- mostly beans). It seems like I am able to eat more now and it worries me. The last two days I have eaten 1000-1100 calories. Normal food is much more calories for sure. I am not always getting 64 oz in throughout theday. I can how ever drink normally. Can you stretch out your stomach this early and I thought it was about 3 oz-4 oz was all that we can handle? What is everyone elses experience this early on...

    Left Upper Abdomen Pain

Just an update I am little over a year out and still have occasional lt upper quadrant pain but it is not constant or predictable. I did go back to Dr. Watkins and did a barium swallow and all was fine. He thinks it may have something to do with adhesions and the bowel becoming constipated.

    ***warning***

I eat very little rice maybe three bites and I eat it last. I do feel fullness in my stomach. Hamberger is hard for me to process. 6 months out and I still havent eaten steak because I loved it and I am afraid it will hurt.
  9. I am six months out and lost a total of 30 lbs gained 5 back this month. Went back to counting calories, exercises and lost 2 lbs so far this week. I take full responsibility for not following the diet and letting chips, soda, bread and icecream back in my diet. I have restriction but I now know which foods I can eat more of and I do... That said I am getting back to the basics and try to keep loosing. It is embarassing to have stalled out for this long. I wish there was a easier way but lets face it. Weight loss is hard work for some people. I am an emotional eater and until I recognize and stop my response I will not progress. Pray for me:)

Moving In The Right Direction Again!

Great job! Good luck with the hip surgery! I am struggling to but I am happy I am not gaining. My problem is eating out and not knowing the calories. Today I ate 625 cal at one sitting and I ate too fast and had pain! It was dumb but I was talking. I do better when I eat alone but that is no fun:)

    Two Month Postop

I am two months post op at this time. I have lost a total of 27 lbs including preop. I went from 220 to 193 lbs. I am still not quite a size 16 in all my pants but can not wear many of my size 18 because they are too BIG:) I am eating normally but with smaller portion sizes. I have noticed that will meat and vegetables, my portion sizes are small. I can eat a whole bag of 99 cent Cheetos and not have any problem. So the moral of the story or lesson here is that it is the quality of what you put in your stomach that is going to get you farther in your weight loss. I have noticed that I am tracking my calories less but each time I go to put them in I am shocked by the calorie count.. My goal is to continue tracking because it is easy to tell myself I havent really ate that much. I had a two week weight stall which really worried me but when I increased my calories from 920 to 1100 I started dropping weight again. So not enough calories for my activity? Nice change huh? I was sick with a cold for week and I stopped exercising. My husband and I are committed to going back to the gym. I have to move to eat more and move to lose more weight. I mainly take low calorie food to work and save half my calories for home. Otherwise I end up with just 200 calories and a very long evening. Thanksgiving went okay. I could only eat two small sweet potato chunks, spoon of stuffing and 2 oz of turkey. I hurt though. I had slivers of pie later. I didnt gain so I guess I did okay. Occasionally I crave soda but I do not want to stretch my pouch. So as you can see it is a struggle still with your mind, old habits and motivation. This surgery requires a committment to a life style change. It is only a tool.

8 Weeks Out of Sleeve Plication Surgery

I get pain in my left lower rib area. Not as bad as before. I am taking a prilosec even though he fixed the hiatal hernia. I dont have reflux. I find that I do get a full feeling either just start hurting when I take that last bite:( I have only lost 27 lbs in 2 months but it is 27 pounds that I would not have lost before the surgery and so far I have not gained.
  13. I had mine on Wednesday and was off from Wednesday to Tuesday. I only took pain meds for two days. I had no problems sleeping in any position. I did not have nausea or vomiting. I had a migraine on Monday or I would have went in. You will feel tired but by the second week I wasnt as tired. Good Luck! Plicated inend of September total weight loss including preop is 27 pounds.
  14. I am 61/2 weeks poat gatric plication. i lost 24 lbs with preop. i am stalled out currently for 2 weeks. I am happy I lost a pant size but have come to the conclusion that unless I am motivated and vigilant I will not loseall the weight. I would like to lose 80lb total. This is not a easy task. I get mad that I spent the money and sometimes wish I would have been moreb in control of my eating. This surgery did not change how I use food to cope, my absorption of food or give me will power. It gives me a full feeling and I am hungry less. The surgery is a tool. I havent made myself vomit but I have been very uncomfortable. I am determine to get where I need to go and be healthy. It is however obvious to me at this stage that I have more to learn about food combinations and the mental part of weight loss.

    Left Upper Abdomen Pain

I am doing okay. Saturday the pain was so bad I took a pain pill. I try to stretch my side out, change positions etc. I can sleep on my side, back or stomach. I agree with Chow chow that it could be gas as it does come and go. Mainly it comes on slowly and sticks around. It seems worse the more active I am such as standing for long periods. I may be eating too much. I am staying around 920 calories but the last two days I have ate 1000-1100. I have been getting constipated so started back on miralx daily. I dont think it is constipation because I was cleaned out by Saturday:). I have tried the meds for stomach cramping but it didnt work either. I have not received any f/u calls but I havent called either. In either case I am still living and I didnt have pain today;)

    One Month Post OP

I lost a total of 23 pounds including preoperative weight loss. I am down a pant size. Most people can tell in my face and stomach. I can tell with my pants. Some one actually wanted to know what I paid so they could figure how much each pound cost. I have never lost this much weight without gaining it all back quickly. I am nervous that I will suddenly want to eat more but so far I am doing okay. I eat a protein bar or protein shake slowing through the AM. I eat protein throughout the day. I have had 1/2 english muffin toasted and 35 cal bread toasted. I havent really tried pasta. Broccoli cooked does okay. I havent try raw veggies. I am happy so far with my weight loss and what I eat. I am focusing on the working out more and water.
  17. Awesome job! I am 3 1/2 weeks out and I lost 22 lbs and a pant size!

    Going into 4th week postop

I started regular food this week and find that I really have to concentrate or I go back to my eating habits of not fully chewing the food. This of course is uncomfortable. I find that I eat about every 2-3 hours. I went to a conference for two day this past work week and it was difficult at meals. I didnt want to waste my food. I couldnt box the food either. I also loved the cheese cake (it went down well) but I couldnt eat much of it. I have lost a total of 21 pounds (preop) included. I am still focusing on Protein and low calories (930 cal/day). I went to a seminar this past week on Morbid obesity. There are some things like probiotics to help normalize the gut flora to help us lose weight. The doctors seemed to think that a high protein, hypocaloric (low calorie) diet is the best way to lose weight. The doctors were bariatric doctors and had negative comments of the long term results of bariatric surgery. Of course the gastric plication wasnt listed. I find myself focused on what other people are eating and the portion size is amazing to me compared to what I can eat. I struggle sometimes if I get too busy getting calories or fluids in and spend the rest of the evening (catching up). My favorite foods right now are cottage cheese, oatmeal, beans and fish. I slacked off on the shakes this week because I have to buy more. I am still liking the EAS carb control shakes.I am still tracking calories and exercise. Sometimes I wish the weight loss was faster but I know I wouldnt feel as good as I do if I couldnt take in the protein and calories.

    Two Weeks post op

I am two weeks postop I have lost a total of 20 pounds. I am down a pant size to a 16 for the first time in a long time. The weight loss is amazing to me. I am afraid to stall. I really want to get under 200 pounds! Just .5lbs to go! I started soft foods. Fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, peanut butter, soup, cheddar cheese melted, baked potatoe mashed. I tried veggies that we steamed well but they didnt sit well. I am still more comfortable with the yogurt or cottage cheese because it is package small and I dont over do it. Working out at the gym on the elliptical and stepper machines. I am a little tired after 30 minutes but generally feel good. Plan on starting weights next week. I get uncomfortable at times in my waist incision areas. (Wish he would have went a little lower so they were at my pant line. But they are not red or anything. My left flank area also feels sore. Not sure if it is my stomach or kidney?

1 Week Out Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery

He was very honest about his two complication patients in fact he is writing a medical journal article on what happened. He told me that he found that the plication had to be looser then the sleeve. He tried to make them tight like the VSG. I appreciated his honesty and the hard stop he did to further research. He is doing them again. So far I have not had any problems.
