  1. I had mine a little over two years ago. I wish I would not have had the gastric plication. I had no side effects. My recovery was fine. I really needed to go to a place where I could attend support group with the plication. I lost 30 lbs and have gain all but 14 pounds back. This is entirely my fault. I even had the plication check and I had not stretched it out. I have learned to eat around it. Mainly by small frequent meals. My portions are not that big. I was even getting up and eating at night!

I am now trying to eat 3 small meals with a focus of increase fruit and vegetables. I crave sweets constantly. I am on day two of no eating at night and staying with eating meals fruits vegetables and no sweets!

    Good luck!

  2. I only lost 30 lbs since my surgery about 14 months ago. I snuck diet pop/soda into my diet which did not help at all with my surgar cravings. I have stopped drinking pop/soda since my doctors visit when I met another gastric plication with band patient who is having a revision due to pop/soda. Totally her surgery is not at 24,000.

So snacking and soda is definately my down fall

  3. My barium showed at a year the same restriction. It looked perfect. I have found like most of you that some food are easier and less filling then others. I agree Protein first and vegetables second. I lost only 30 lbs with my surgery. I still cant eat like I used to so the doctor told me if I go back to my exercise routine I will continue to lose but based on my age, diet and sedentary lifestyle I have reached a plateau. I admit to cheating with foods that have poor nutrition and higher calories. So I am going to add exercise and make better choices.

  4. I am six months out and lost a total of 30 lbs gained 5 back this month. Went back to counting calories, exercises and lost 2 lbs so far this week. I take full responsibility for not following the diet and letting chips, soda, bread and icecream back in my diet. I have restriction but I now know which foods I can eat more of and I do...

That said I am getting back to the basics and try to keep loosing. It is embarassing to have stalled out for this long. I wish there was a easier way but lets face it. Weight loss is hard work for some people. I am an emotional eater and until I recognize and stop my response I will not progress.

    Pray for me:)

  5. So, the last several months have been very tough for me weight loss wise. I either didn't lose any weight one month, lost only about 3 lbs for a couple of months, and then gained 6 lbs one month! BUT! I tried to get my diet back in line this past month and lost the 6 lbs I had gained plus an additional 6 lbs! I'm feeling so much better that I'm back on track. Unfortunately I have to go in for hip surgery tomorrow which will slow me down quite a bit, but as soon as I'm back to recovery I'm going to try to start getting in some exercise and continue the downward spiral on the scale! So, maybe my weight loss days aren't over yet!!

Great job! Good luck with the hip surgery! I am struggling to but I am happy I am not gaining. My problem is eating out and not knowing the calories. Today I ate 625 cal at one sitting and I ate too fast and had pain! It was dumb but I was talking. I do better when I eat alone but that is no fun:)

  6. Don't know if it's the same thing, but the pains I get are not acid. Everyone thought they were for a long time, until they did so many tests on me with the gallbladder issues. They are a combination of gas or overfullness and the scar tissue I have developed around the plication. I no longer get the full stop feeling I got early on, I just start hurting now as I eat more.

I get pain in my left lower rib area. Not as bad as before. I am taking a prilosec even though he fixed the hiatal hernia. I dont have reflux. I find that I do get a full feeling either just start hurting when I take that last bite:(

I have only lost 27 lbs in 2 months but it is 27 pounds that I would not have lost before the surgery and so far I have not gained.

  7. I am wondering the average amout of time people take off from work. I am having my Plication on Thursday, will I be able to return to work on Monday?

I had mine on Wednesday and was off from Wednesday to Tuesday. I only took pain meds for two days. I had no problems sleeping in any position. I did not have nausea or vomiting. I had a Migraine on Monday or I would have went in. You will feel tired but by the second week I wasnt as tired. Good Luck!

Plicated inend of September total weight loss including preop is 27 pounds.

  8. I am 61/2 weeks poat gatric plication. i lost 24 lbs with preop. i am stalled out currently for 2 weeks. I am happy I lost a pant size but have come to the conclusion that unless I am motivated and vigilant I will not loseall the weight. I would like to lose 80lb total. This is not a easy task.

I get mad that I spent the money and sometimes wish I would have been moreb in control of my eating. This surgery did not change how I use food to cope, my absorption of food or give me will power. It gives me a full feeling and I am hungry less. The surgery is a tool. I havent made myself vomit but I have been very uncomfortable.

I am determine to get where I need to go and be healthy. It is however obvious to me at this stage that I have more to learn about food combinations and the mental part of weight loss.

  9. I am 4 1/2 weeks out and I have eaten almost a cup of food(chili- mostly beans). It seems like I am able to eat more now and it worries me. The last two days I have eaten 1000-1100 calories. Normal food is much more calories for sure. I am not always getting 64 oz in throughout theday. I can how ever drink normally.

Can you stretch out your stomach this early and I thought it was about 3 oz-4 oz was all that we can handle?

What is everyone elses experience this early on...

  10. Not experienced a site specific pain before Mary. I had significant issues sleeping on my stomach in the first month or two after surgery, but that went away with time. Doubt it's the same thing. Mine was just a general sort of discomfort and feeling nauseous whenever I was on my stomach before falling asleep. Don't remember waking up with discomfort.

    Hope you're well.

I am doing okay. Saturday the pain was so bad I took a pain pill. I try to stretch my side out, change positions etc. I can sleep on my side, back or stomach. I agree with Chow chow that it could be gas as it does come and go. Mainly it comes on slowly and sticks around. It seems worse the more active I am such as standing for long periods.

I may be eating too much. I am staying around 920 calories but the last two days I have ate 1000-1100.

I have been getting constipated so started back on miralx daily. I dont think it is Constipation because I was cleaned out by Saturday:). I have tried the meds for stomach cramping but it didnt work either.

I have not received any f/u calls but I havent called either. In either case I am still living and I didnt have pain today;)

  11. I am 4 weeks out today and I wake up almost every more with left upper stomach to side pain just under my rib cage?! It goes away within 1-2 hours. I cant tell if it is stomach cramping. I even thought maybe a kidney stone except the pain goes away. Any one else experience this?

I have had no real problems since my surgery.

  12. I'm surprised he's doing plications given what he wrote here http://www.verticals...871#entry125871

He was very honest about his two complication patients in fact he is writing a medical journal article on what happened. He told me that he found that the plication had to be looser then the sleeve. He tried to make them tight like the VSG. I appreciated his honesty and the hard stop he did to further research. He is doing them again. So far I have not had any problems.

  13. I started on soft foods about 1 1/2 in. I knew it was a bit early, but I was dying to chew. My stomach is pretty little. I can't eat a whole lot which is the point I guess. I am just about 3 weeks out and am still eating "softer" foods, but last night I had a maybe one ounce piece or rib eye. I cut it into small pieces and chewed it to death. No issues. The Protein shakes are wearing me down. I like the EA low carb brand which only has about 100 calories, so I will drink those for breakfast until I can't stand it anymore. I am trying to get the 60g of Protein in my diet , but so far it is about 40g per day.

Cottage cheese is a good source of protein. carbmaster yogurt from kroger has low cal and good protein too.

  14. That is soooo ridiculous!!! My Insurance had a weight loss surgery clause, so there was NO way they would pay for any of it! What did you end up paying for yours? I paid 13K for the surgery, plus and additional $1188 for 18 month insurance (incase anything goes wrong). My husband wouldn't allow me to go to Mexico for the surgery. He just didn't feel comfortable about leaving the country. I had my Surgery in Everett, WA (Just 20min north of Seattle). I am actually in a trial study for the surgery for the next 3 years. Basically just means, I am a guinea pig that has to fill out extra paperwork every time I go in :). I think I was their 8th Plication!

How was your experience in Mexico?

I paid 9,900 with Dr. Brad Watkins in Cincinnati Ohio. I was his 50 patient for plication of course he does many other WLS. I have two years of f/u and a "free" barium if I need it.

  15. It is so weird reading both your replies because It is exactly what I am going through right now. I am 12 days out. I ate some grilled tilapia tonight. It was awesome. I am supposed to be on purreed in two days but I wanted food so bad!. I dont feel hungry either. I just want to chew!

Sometimes I have to decide food or fluids. I really try to get my Protein in because I really dont want to lose my hair. I take Gummy Vitamins.

I get uncomfortable if I eat too fast or over 2 oz at a time. That means I eat small meals throughout the day. I eat cottage cheese, carbmaster yogurt. EAS Protein shakes or Atkin shakes. sugar free oatmeal thinned with skim milk.

Three and a half weeks ago I was drinking one 2 Liter of Diet Mt Dew a day. Now I just drink Vitamin Water, crystal light or Water. No caffeine!

I have had some second thoughts but too late now:) I did feel a little anger at myself for spending the money but again. I can see and feel the difference so very worth it!

I am back at the gym. Today was my second day. I have lost 17lbs including preop. I am going to make sure I am successful!

Good luck to both of you too. I am so glad you posted!

  16. So what should be normal restriction? I have read many people saying they are not restricted enough. At this point, 12 days out, I can only eat a 4 ounce yogurt, slowly. In somewhat regular foods I had 3 mini ravioli (chef boyardee) before I felt full. At least I think that is what tha feeling is. I don't really feel "hunger" just more of a hollow or empty feeling.

At 11 days out. I can eat the same amount of yogurt over a half hour. I eat liquid sugar free oatmeal over a half hour too. I do feel when I need to stop. I cant just eat three meals. I eat about every 3 hours. I only have sugar free popsicles close to bedtime. You sound about right to me. Other things make me full sooner like the 3 soft fair fries I cheated with yesterday. That was my limit.

  17. I had my gall bladder out a long time ago. I know the surgeon could have taken yours out when they did the plication but it probably wasnt on your consent form. Knowing ahead of time would be good knowledge so that you could have one surgery not two!

I am interested in the fact that he thought your stomach was not very restricted. This is just 5 months later right? It must be very easy to stretch the stomach back out again? I am just a week out and that information is very sobering. I spent a lot of money for it to just be for naught.

Good luck postop. I had random reactions to certain foods but generally felt 100% better!

  18. So I am one week out tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to creamy Soups. But something weird happened today, I am not certain if it is normal. For some reason, as of today, I can drink just fine. Not small sips, but almost normal drinking. Does that mean I am healing, or is that bad?

I am on Day 3 postop. I can drink anything that fits through a straw. In fact, I forgot I had the surgery (early am sleep walk?) I drank 3 oz of tea in a hurry. So now waiting for stomach cramping to settle down.
