  1. Had a doctors appointment today and had my A1C level checked (among other things).

The results are that all of my test results were great, and my A1C was a 5.5 (the last time I had it checked before surgery is was around 10.8).

Had my surgery Oct. 1st. SW 300, CW 248. Went fast at the beginning, has slowed down some now. Gonna start Cross Fit in a week to see if I can't speed it back up.

  2. Good luck but plan ahead you will do fine ...I drive truck so if you need any travel tips lol

SO the trip went well except, i was feeling so good that while I was sitting in a chair Saturday night, I whipped around real fast to see someone who called from behind me. I felt what I can only describe as a small pop, and now my left side is about the same soreness it was a week ago. Basically it went backward. And, there is a small bruise. Not sure exactly what I did, but I am not worried about it, just pissed off it is hurting again.

  3. Is it normal that I had a whole can of Soup today with no problems/restriction? I ate slowly obviously but today was the first time that I've finished a whole bowl of soup.

My doc said that, other than when you are on the liquid only diet, I shouldn't eat soup. Soup doesn't fill the pouch, it runs through it. So, in effect, you are taking in calories and still feeling hungry.

  4. For the whole first month I was mildly to moderately nauseous. Foods smelled bad and tasted worse. That lasted about a month. Gradually it goes away. It takes time for your body to heal - it's been through a lot. Even now, four months later, I'll try something I used to like and find I don't like it anymore. It's not entirely a bad thing - I eat for fuel, not for pleasure. It's very liberating. :-)

I am eating for fuel, but I don't want to.

  5. Tomorrow will be two weeks out and down 38 lbs. I feel awesome. Been back to work this week with no issues. Starting to have feeling in my pouch. Loving my new life already.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II using RNYTalk Surgery 9/27/13 RNY DOS 301 CW 274

Glad to hear it is going well.

  6. Yesterday/this morning was fun. Got to try new stuff. Had mashed potatoes for dinner last night, had a 60 calorie no sugar lemon pudding cup later in the evening (I have been going to bed around 3am lately). This morning (around 1030) I had a yoplait greek peach yogurt. All of these things were delicious, filling, and did not upset my stomach at all.

Had my best night of sleep yet (slept from 3am-10am) including sleeping on my side (the right one of course) all night.

And this was all after I went to work and met with my students yesterday, who I had missed for the past week since surgery.

A good day I would say.

One negative today. I got choked up this morning (on nothing, just took a wrong breath I guess), and the deep, unstoppable coughing was quite painful. I guess my ab muscles are healed pretty well for day to day stuff, but they are still sensitive to hacking.

  7. Rainangel I am 4 day's post op and I still not been passing gas and ....omg the pain is getting so unbearable. The dr said the more I can walk the better I can pass it. I am not regretting I had the surgery but damn ( sorty for nasty )the could has keep this gas shit lol lol .

The gas will, for the most part, ease up as your new pouch heals, but walking is the best thing you can do. Walk as much as you can make yourself, and then walk a little more.

  8. I also think the drinks are too sweet. I'm pre-surgery now, operation is October 15. I've been doing the following to help. I mix 1 pkg of decaffeinated coffee with 8 oz skim milk and 1 scoop unjury vanilla Protein powder. I mix 1 heaping teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder with 8 oz skim millk and 1 scoop Unjury chocolate Splendor Protein Powder. I know the cocoa powder probably has a little caffeine just because it's chocolate. That's the only way I can drink them. As for other Protein Drinks, I like the Zero Carb Isopure RTD Coconut because it isn't sweet. It's almost clear and is made with coconut Water. You have to like coconut, though.

You have to like coconut (which I do) and DISHWATER (which I don't) because that is what it tastes like.

  9. 1 week check in was today. Dr. says everything looks great. I am down 18 lbs since surgery last week, 25 since I started the cabbage Soup diet the week before surgery. Got my staples taken out and the nurse says my cuts look well enough that I should end up with tiny scars. Next appointment is in 3 weeks, and everything is moving along fine.

And.....drum roll.........I am getting ready to have some mashed potatoes (sans butter). Exciting!

  10. I also had my surgery on 10/2..

I previously had a lap band, which was a miserable fail.. I had a ton of eating issues and in the last year or so ended up eating a diet of chips, Soup, ice cream, and Cookies.. EVERYTHING else made me puke.. So I had that removed and went with RNY..

I was in the hospital much longer than expected, surgeon thought there was a possible leak.. I was on ice chips for 4 days, then full liquids on the 5th day, which is when I went home.. No leak, hooray!!

So I've only been eating mushies for 2 days, but I feel like already this is so much easier than the band.. Recovery from the surgery seemed easier.. In the hospital, all vitals were perfect, walking way more than expected, it was sort of a running joke in the hospital (not trying to compare myself to others, just myself from the previous surgery), and the whole coming home thing has been way easier.. I have stairs, had no issues, walking, no issues, I even ran some errands with my husband today, no problems.. I don't have any issues getting in enough Water or Protein, I do supplement with Protein powders though.. I will say the bariatric Vitamins are gross..

I don't mean to gloat, I just can't get over how much easier this experience had been versus the band, considering its a much more invasive surgery..

Hope everyone else is doing well, and to all the people headed in for surgery in the near future, good luck!!!

Glad this seems to be working out better for you.
