  1. Hi Sippzgrl,

It is almost a year since my surgery October 23, 2013, I have lost 110 pounds, I also had no complications from the surgery. I am feeling so good, and the weight is still coming off. I know that it will stop eventually and am afraid that I will gain it back. I eat just about whatever I want except for sweets and most bread, for some reason bread does not go down well. On Sept 17 I go and have a bone density test, blood work and see the dietitian before my 1 year check up with Dr. Chiang.

Do you know if we go for yearly check-ups after this or is the 1 year check up the final one?

I am also exercising on a regular basis.

Good luck to you also, keep trying.

  2. I never get any compliments, even though I have lost 86 lbs in 6 months. Not even from my husband. I am very hurt by this, I wish someone would say something.

I can understand getting to much attention, it is probably exhausting, but to get none after all the hard work put into this makes me cry.

  3. My surgery is October 23, I am currently on my 2 week liquid diet, this is very difficult, but necessary. I have not cheated on this diet, but my husband can eat whatever he wants, never gains weight, he also eats very healthy, so in the long run, this will help me.

Pear425, you said some really great things that will also help me out. Thanks

  4. Hi,

I was all set to have the sleeve done, scheduled on October 23rd, I had to go see the dietician on Monday, Sept 30, She noticed that I have acid reflux and said to me that I could have problems with it getting worse and suggested that I have RNY surgery instead. As soon as I got home I called by surgeons office and asked them about the acid reflux and they verified that yes it could get worse, so then and there I decided to change to the RNY Gastic By-pass. The only trouble I had was that they had to re-submit my paper work to the insurance company again, within 2 days I was approved for the surgery and kept my original surgery date of October 23rd. Also, as someone else stated, you need to stay away from sweets and fatty foods, and I always have trouble with eating to many sweets, so in the end this will really be helpful for me.

    Good luck to you.

  5. Hello

    I am new here.

I was going to have the gastric sleeve surgery, it was scheduled for October 23, so I was told to go for my blood work and see the dietician on Monday the 30th of Sept. I did that, when I went to meet with the dietician and I told her I was having the sleeve done she mentioned to me that since I already have acid reflux that the sleeve would not be a good choice for me, and that the roux en y surgery would be better. She said she has seen so many people get worse as far as acid reflux and that she would hate for this to happen to me. I had never been told this before.

When I got home I called my surgeons office and asked if this is true and they confirmed that is was. I decided to change the type of surgery I was having to the roux en y gastric by pass. So now everything had to be resubmitted to my insurance company to get approval again for the new surgery request.

Has anyone here ever done this, and was it approved by your insurance co? Did I make the right choice? I was told that my surgery date will now change. I am disappointed by that, but I guess I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer.

    Any comments would be appreciated.
