    Meeting the Bandsters

Saturday July 28th was going to be very exciting. I would be travelling about 20 minutes north east to meet a group of local bandsters for lunch. I decided to have optifast for breakast. This was all very exciting as I could actually feel myself taking steps into my new and improved life. I had ordered the Magic Bullet to go (the cordless/rechargeable) a few days prior, and like the optifast it arrived very quickly. One shake for brekkie, not too bad. Could I really do this? The bandster lunch was awesome. Everyone was so nice, supportive, helpful and friendly. I was hoping to meet some people, at least one from my town. It would be cool to have a fellow bandster to walk down to starbucks by the lake. Had a very sensible salad for lunch. Was very curious to see what the banded crowd ate. Ranged from soup, to pasta, to a hamburger! Connected with a couple of bandsters who really made an impact on me, and I have found myself watching for there posts. Lots of bandsters had same doc as me, and were very happy. A couple of us talked about how much of a hottie he is. I wouldnt throw him out of bed for eating crackers, if you know what I mean.

    Fear and Optifast

Doc ordered 2 weeks of optifast pre-op. In my zest to begin the process of being banded, I orderd the optifast right away, and it was delivered at lightning spped. Unfortunately I was not home, and hod to go to purolator to pick it up. This was not a big deal because it was literally a few minutes (like 3) up the street by car. However when I got there and the uniformed lady handed me the box, I was horrified to see that it said optifast weight loss such and such in huge writing all over the box. I mean I know it is not secret that I am fat, but I really hated the fact that the contents were explicitly described on the outside. That was friday July 27th. I decided not to wait until August 01, but to try the optifast sooner. THe thought of quitting food, (my friend, lover and constant companion) cold turkey terrified me to death. It should be stated here that I quit smoking cold turkey back in April of this year. Letting go of the food is so different. My plan was, and still is to ease into optifast, and actually to cheat. There I said it. I am going to cheat, I am not going to give up food for 14 consecutive days in exchange for a packet of powder.

  5. I think it depends on the Doc, my diet is 2 weeks of Optifast. Which means no actual food for 2 weeks, just this powder that you mix with water to make a "shake" (I use the term loosely).
  6. Hello All I wanted to say a special Thank You to all those who attended the lunch yesterday, you all made me feel very welcome, and I am even more excited about getting "banded" on August 15 (if it is possible to be more excited) Thank you for sharing your wisdom, hope, strength and compassion. I look forward to "lunching" with you all really soon.
  7. Hi DoxieLover I think we chatted briefly on the Canada forum? You have surgery scheduled in the morning at 9:20, mine is at 1:20. R U Local ? I sampled the Optifast shake this morning for brekkie. It was not terrible!

    Is it worth it?????

Hi Scooverit Lapband is not covered by ins for me (Canada) however I heard from my doctor of a clinical trial that was free. Unfortunatley I did not have a high enough BMI or enough comorbidities to enter the study. I thought of waiting until I did (just a matter of time). Decided instead, to drive an old car for a few years and take the 16 thousand out of my line of credit. I will be banded on August 15th. I hear your pain!!
  9. Hi JP based on your ticker we are starting off at around the same weight, with the same amount of weight to lose, and we have the same date.... cool. I went for blood work a couple of days ago, having the preop with my doc on Aug 02, which is also the day that the balance is due on my surgery. I just received my case o Optifast in the mail. I'll be on it for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Do you have a preop diet ? Love to chat
  10. My date is August 15 2007 at 1:20pm with Dr Cobourn in Mississauga Ontario Canada

Anyone else from east-end of Toronto??

Hi Cindy I'm getting banded on August 15 by Dr Coburn I called the clinic today and asked if I could get a doctors note that is not on the "Surgical weight loss" letterhead. They said no problem. I am going to be using sick time. Last year I had a hysterectomy but my doctors note didnt say that. It said ssaid something like: this person will be away from work for 6 weeks to recover from surgery and general anasthecia it was then signed by the OB/GYN, but it just said Doctor Sharma. Hopefully you will be able to use sick time

    Dr. Cobourn

Hello Everyone I am scheduled for August 15th. I think it is good Karma because it was my grandmothers birthday. I live in Oakville, and would be interested in meeting local bandsters, who are willing to share their wisdom and experience. Perhaps a coffee at Starbucks or Tims?

That would be awesome to connect live at Dr C's office. Are you going to the luncheon at Kelseys on Saturday the 28th? I have taken the morning off work and I am throwing out all the clothes that are slightly big on me, as I know in a few weeks they will be hugely too big and unwearable. lol
  14. Hi I met with the Doc yesterday and i am scheduled for Aug 15 also. I'm in Oakville Ontario Canada. Would love to chat with others that have the same date, a few friends travelling the same road at the same time!
  15. Hi Donna, and everyone. I just met with Dr. C yesterday, I am scheduled for surgery on Aug 15. I am nervous and excited about the surgery. I am interested in meeting people in my area who have been banded. Would it be appropriate for me to attend the lunch at Kelseys next saturday? If it is just for "post ops" I will not be offended. I'd rather find out here than at the restaurant. Thanks very much
