  1. Wow, I loved that, so simple! Still not too sure about why no drinking before, but trying to follow the rules anyway.

    Temptation!

Awwww, Jamie 1028! I know exactly how you feel! Although we did this for the right reasons, it sure is hard not to think of it as a punishment sometimes. I'm a social eater, and love nothing more than hanging out with my friends and enjoying a good meal. Tonight I went out to a birthday dinner and sipped on soup while everyone else enjoyed all the yummy food that I love so much. One girl had the nerve to mock me and made a big deal of telling me how good the food was and how much I was missing out. Otherwise, my friends were a good group, and I tried to just enjoy their company. Only one of them knew about my surgery, and I just told the rest I was on a strict diet. I certainly hope this gets easier down the road, 'cause I'd kill for some chocolate right now! I made an appointment with a shrink assigned to the WLS group at my hospital to talk this stuff out. Don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt. I really want to be one of those people who is truly disgusted with "junk" food. Don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt. I agree, this is the hardest thing I've ever done, and I can only pray that it will be worth it in the long run. Please hang in there!
  3. I had my surgery on September 25, and am doing pretty well. Dying to eat something crunchy, nuts sound good right now. I've done ok with everything except tuna, got pretty sick on that. Back to the gym after 2 weeks, surgeon said that if it didn't hurt, I could do it. Rough nite tonite, went out to a birthday dinner at a steakhouse for a really good friend. It was hard to watch them all eat appetizers and nice, juicy steaks while I slurped my bowl of soup. I'm trying to train myself to just focus on the good company and consider the food an afterthought, not the main event. Actually had a nice time, and I'm going to continue working on being social without focusing on food. Sometimes it just amazes me when I think of what I would have eaten had it not been for this surgery. I'm so grateful!

    Any advice from you guys?

I followed just about the same path you did...Started out wanting the band, then was totally committed to the sleeve. I had done all my research and felt the sleeve was exactly what I needed. At the last minute, both my surgeon and nutritionist suggested the bypass due to some medical issues I have. I didn't have much time to research the bypass, but trusted them and went ahead with it. The binder we received showed pretty much the same pre-op and post op diets. Much as I don't want to avoid sweets and fatty foods, I know this is good for me. I have to admit, I wanted the sleeve so I could still eat that stuff. Seems like I was setting myself up to fail. I've heard many times that bypass is the "gold standard." I decided that if I made this huge change in my life, I was going to do it only once. No revisions for me. My recovery was surprisingly easy, as this was the first surgery I ever had. No matter what surgery you choose, this is not an easy path, but it will certainly be worth it, whatever choice you make. I don't think there's a "wrong" choice. Do you homework (you can find side-by-side comparisons of each surgery only), and make it work for you. Good luck!
  5. I had my surgery on September 25, and have had a fairly easy time of it since then. Minimal pain and back to work fairly quickly. Maybe a little too quickly, as I should have enjoyed a little more downtime! I know it's by the grace of God that I've been so fortunate. However, I do have one piece of advice for those who have not had surgery yet. EXERCISE! Although I wasn't successful keeping weight off over all these years, I did exercise regularly for the past 14 years. I didn't work out super hard or super long, but very regularly, four days a week. I truly believe that working out can help recovery faster and smoother. At the very least it will prep you for exercising after surgery. Wishing everyone a safe and successful journey!

    Blessed

I had my surgery on September 25, and couldn't be more pleased with how things have gone so far. I've been reading posts on this forum forever to prepare myself for the good, the bad, and the ugly, and really tried to prepare myself for a tough journey, but I have been so blessed! I had minimal pain after surgery, and will be going back to work (two jobs) on Monday. Once I got home, I didn't have any problems getting fluids in. I realize that so many people struggle getting in fluids in, but just wanted to let people are thinking of having this surgery that sometimes things aren't so bad. It's definitely a huge adjustment, but even two weeks of the post-op liquid diet isn't so bad. I know that things could change at any moment, but I'm so grateful for how this journey has gone so far. Can't wait for the weight to start coming off so I can begin my new life. Would love to hear from other September surgeries! Thanks to all on this board for all of the information and hints. The docs and nutritionists can only prepare you so much, but there's nothing like hearing from someone who's been there. Wishing everyone good luck on their healthy journeys!

    Surgery was yesterday! Liquids question

I had surgery on Sept 25 and could drink 12 oz in a hour with no problem a couple of days later. Not sure if this is ok or not!
