  1. Hello everyone, I had my surgery two days ago at PSSC with Dr Kaufman. I probably researched who and were to have the surgery with, the people, facilities and the aftercare program is what sold me to choose them.

I spent one night and returned home yesterday morning, was a little nervous, but it was just fine. I am learning how much to sip to avoid being uncomfortable, the gas pains are still there a little, not getting behind on the meds is key for my comfort.

I am just finding my way around this site and I am happy to see that it is full of positive and encouraging fellow Sleevers.

I look forward to reading your posts,

    J.R.

    Welcome JR,

    Glad you are recovering well.

There is a WLS support/meet up happening in the Bothell area. Not sure where you are from. It's meet the 1st and 3rd Sunday, although we are skipping Easter Sunday figuring most will be busy. We meet at The Den Coffeehouse at 3pm. More details to follow. In fact a poll will follow.....

  2. I can tolerate foods very well. I haven't had Pasta, but I've had a little rice and potatoes. I'm not really nauseous. I'm doing my fitness pal to make sure I'm getting my Protein in. I average 800-1000 cals/day. I'm so scared to try sugar or fatty foods, I don't want to dump. I think everyone is different. I have a bypass friend who can tolerate sugar and one who cannot. It's easy stay on track now but I'll be sad if later on I don't get the dumping to keep me in line, it wasn't my fail safe but was a back up plan lol. I think I'm holding off on trying sugar and alcohol till I'm at goal. But I'm truly satisfied with my food right now.....

  3. For perspective, my almost 5 year old daughter has only been to the golden arches once in her life. It was not on purpose either. We were at a bouncy house place far from home and she had run out of Snacks I had packed for her and she had to pee and she was starving burning all those calories running and jumping and playing. Anyways, I avoided telling her the name of the place so she could never ask to go there again because she was enamored that they had toys and indoor playground for children (important here in Seattle with the rain). Anyways, she was complaining and having a tantrum because she had to wait in line for food. She had only been places where she is served food by wait staff. All I could think about is if you frequent places where you have to wait in line for food, it's like pigs to the slaughter!

  4. I'm moving to Redmond Washington I'm 4 months post sleeve... I'll need a doctor to pick up my post surgery care. Can a few from your group share their doctors info or make a recommendation?

I'm pretty partial to Lily Chang at Virginia Mason in downtown Seattle. 206-341-1994 I've had a great experience with her and she follows folks from out of state and the country.

  5. This help feel better! I had surgery Monday 3/16 and I'm little miserable! I can't get enough nutrients down. And feeling weak, still gas on me. I walk 15 every 2 hrs. I'm on the regret stage right now. I'm hungry and just want to eat something good! I need some encouraging words, from people who been there and please tell it gets better.

It does get better! I'm 9 weeks out. Try not to focus on taste, just get the nutrients in you. Things that worked for me was sf chocolate pudding with unflavored Protein. Cream of Tomato Soup, popsicles, cream of rice cooked in chicken broth and unflavored Protein Powder. Dannon fit and light yogurt only the toasted coconut and vanilla flavor. I made shrimp bisque Soup strained....Then the ricotta cheese bake with pesto when I went to soft foods....Keep walking, although at that stage I would get worn out. I liked the chewable gas x.....Hang in there, you got this!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)

  6. I can sing very well. I can harmonize with any song. I can cook. I make most every meal without a recipe for my family. I've only bombed maybe twice in my life. I intuitively know how to mix flavors and textures. Got that from my dad who was neither overweight nor a chef. I'm a very convincing salesperson. People say I can sale ice to an Eskimo. Thinking about a career change lol. I'm logical, funny, smart and attention deficient. I'm also a very good writer with a pretty impressive lexicon. Great thread.

  7. I would put in a plug for a company called Luvo. They are not low carb but they are healthy real food that is pronouncable. I can eat around the carbs if I choose now. The food tastes like it was made in someone's kitchen not a factory. The problem with some brands mentioned is that they contain MSG, modified food starch or some derivative. It makes me feel weird and zippy and high for some reason. The chicken and chili is bariatric friendly and a couple of other non-Pasta flavors.

  8. How its everyone???

Hey there! I'm team 1/15/15 and in doing great! My weight loss seems slower than most but I'm not racing to the finish line. I'm taking the scenic route lol. I'm walking most days and I'm looking to start some body weight training at home. I had some jalapenos for dinner tonight. My pouch was not a fan. Ugh. I'm tolerating most foods fairly, though. You????

  9. @@anaxila,

I follow you on MFP, so I know you are putting in the work! Great job! I'm not a fast looser. I have lost massive amounts for weight before and have engaged in unconventional weight loss efforts previously and my body is just taking the scenic route down the scale. I have to accept that for what it is. I'm at 8 weeks and I've lost 30 pounds. Averaging .5 pound a day, is something that I could not have accomplished on my own so everything else is gravy! :)

Keep up the good work, girl!

  10. @@Joebravo,

OK, that's deep and I think the second statement is where the issue is. Weight loss is bound to bring up a myriad of emotions, fears, doubts. We are all afraid of going back. I lost 140 pounds without surgery previously and I found myself back here, having gained back all but 45 pounds. Even after having moments of *KNOWING* that I would never go back. The reality is that is a journey and it is one day, one meal, one bite at a time. There is no permanence in surgery, its only a tool for those who decide to use it everyday.

Maybe on the other side this may fuel you to be of service to others in a way that only you are capable.

Harness your emotions to complete your own transformation.

  11. @@Martene81, I was crazy with worry until about a month before my procedure. I just knew I would be some new breed of human in which the gastric bypass would not work. In addition, I was going to die from anesthesia so it didn't matter anyway. And if by some stroke of luck I made it out alive, I was going to be permanently paralyzed from hair loss, broken bones due to losing the mineral density in my bones due to the malabsorption!!!! My mind was insane!

As I said this process has been great! I hate being nauseous and I told my doc to send me home with strong anti nausea meds! I've used them once, when I *thought* I was getting nauseous. My nose has gotten sensitive so it has pretty much been spot on with what NOT to eat. If it sounds or smells like a bad idea then it probably is. I just go with that now.

Many people don't have complications with the sleeve and some do. I've have 3 people with sleeves tell me they wish they had had the bypass. All do to GERD and reflux complications.

There are pros and cons and risks to every surgery. The benefits should outweigh risks. Success can be achieved with any surgery.

    Good Luck!

  12. I'm coming too!

By grace, I've had no complications. Everything about this process has been smooth sailing. Fingers crossed. I have to make sure the first few bites of food are slow slow slow otherwise I'm fine. I haven't eaten anything that would cause dumping yet but if it did happen I would consider it a perk not a complication. LOL :)

    I consider myself very lucky.
