When did your surgery "kick in?"

@@Dub, 3-4x/week. Training for C25K and usually a good hike on the weekends or swimming.

When did your surgery "kick in?"

@@CindyWinFlorida, I say go in proud of your accomplishments. I think my body was just slow adjusting to the procedure. Everyone's body is different. Keep up the good work!
  4. @@Martene81, Thank you!!!
  5. I am NOT DONE, but I'm happy!!! Like Pharrell happy! LOL 70 pounds down. 30-40 more maybe? I don't have a goal. Enjoying the journey!

Mrs. Reid, I hear you. Exact same here. Loss of appetite and more weight loss. I hope it continues! Here's to the new normal!

    What Are Your Food Ruts?

@@joatsaint, like the meme! I'm not sure if I'm in a rut. I'm just not connecting to food at all right now. I can't think of things I actually want to eat right now. I'm definitely in the low-fat Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast rut, though.

When did your surgery "kick in?"

@@goodnuff, you're welcome. I'd been hearing that docs were making pouches bigger than previously to help with complications for which I am grateful no doubt, but I wanted to see numbers closer to my cohort and I just wasn't until now. I have not changed exercising, but what did happen with the loss of appetite was that I stopped snacking COMPLETELY. I know a lot of folks on here abide by snacking, and coolers and having all kinds of food on hand but for someone with a tendency to overeat, it just triggers grazing which is a bad habit to break and always comes with some sort of unnecessary justification. I think that made the difference for me actually allowing myself to get lost in something and feeling hunger. It takes awhile but it can happen.
  10. I feel like my surgery is *finally* kicking in after 6 months of feeling like I could eat like a normal person almost. I'm getting good restriction and weight loss. Yay! :)

@padremama, I've not done anything different just over the course of the last 2 weeks I sort've lost my appetite which is how I thought I would feel at the the beginning of the surgery. I went through the normal recovery process but I could eat a plate of food, no problem. Now I''m lucky to get 4-5 bites and then I'm done (combination of appetite loss and a fullness sensation) which I never had before.

I think you should make this a topic instead of status update because I think more people worry about this

    Dry prunes

That's great amount of protein for dried fruit. If you soak them in warm water for a few minutes that will help the stool pass quicker
  13. @@craigcu and @@dollybee this group is not active anymore due to poor attendance. Join the Washington State Bariatrics Facebook Page for support and info on meet-ups. There is a meetup happening the second weekend in August at Alki in west Seattle.

I'd watch the cumulative sugar content and stay within your guidelines, but why not?
  15. Hey welcome to the site,- It's a great place to pick up ideas and encouragement. Arthritis (I'm assuming osteo) is an inflammatory condition and can be exacerbated by inflammatory foods. Good thing you are motivated to change your diet. I have a degenerative arthritic condition, it got better with weight loss but sticking to a low carb, low sugar diet helps tremendously. I can nite walk down stairs easily one at a find time without turning sideways and taking them one by one. Good Luck to you, hope you get to the appointment soon.

Maybe rompers with ties and cute sandals. They are roomier and because of the ties it gives you room to keep shrinking over the summer...

  20. I don't hide the surgery per se. I just told the people I wanted to know. I've have a lot of experience with weight loss and choose not to divulge actual numbers. That, for me, can get embarrassing. Like how did I let myself get THAT big?? Its really noone's business....
  21. I, too have not experienced dumping. I had had 1 alcoholic drink with tonic. I have had a few bites of coconut cream pie and 2 Oreos in 14 weeks. That alone is a miracle! I wanted it to make so sick and it didn't. After the 3rd bite of the pie, my stomach just made it clear it had had enough. I knew that going any further down that path would lead to nothing good. I think that is the surgery working, providing gentle reminder not to push it. I think that is worth the price I paid for surgery....
  22. @@ogleland, Welcome! Keep searching the forums. You will find the answer to this question and many more. But this one in particular has gone around and around. I chose Roux en Y or gastric bypass because it made the most sense for me and my situation. I had 100+ pounds to loose. I wanted more long term data. I wanted better chance of complete resolution of my specific co-morbities and I wanted the procedure that most bariatric surgeons feel comfortable fixing complications with because they have been doing the bypass longer. I think you and your doctor can make a decision that you can be confident with. Either of them work really well. And you can achieve success.
