    Is it working for you

My original decision was for the sleeve but that changed when my gastric doctor told me that the bypass was better for me because of acid reflux. I had the bypass and am very pleased with my results. I am much healthier and off almost all major medications. No more diabetes meds, cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds, migraine meds, as a few other. So I'm all for bypass. It really worked for me. Good luck with your decision and surgery.
  2. In the first place you should be talking to your doctor about this it's a serious matter and decision. Every medication or supplement has the potential for side effects or interfering with something else you take not working. Don't do anything on your own regarding this because it just might be very dangerous to your health.
  3. I've never heard of anyone having an open incision like that. A lot of people don't have pain like your husband is having two weeks out. Question the nurse when she comes with all your concerns. If it doesn't improve I personally would bug the surgeon about it. I hope he feels better soon.

    fluids

You're definitely not drinking enough. Also coffee acts as a diuretic and you loose more fluids drinking it. This is what I was told by my surgeon and nutritionist. You must drink all of the water they tell you too or you will become dehydrated. Now the acid reflux I would tell your surgeon about that problem and see what they say. Feel better.

    Juicing?

This is a question you should be asking the nutritionist. In all honesty juicing is not part of the program at all at least with the group I go to. My nutritionist and surgeon would say no to juicing especially pre op. To many sugars and carbs. Really talk to them immediately.
  6. It sounds like you are definitely not getting the nutrition you need for what you wrote. I would be concerned very much so. I would talk to your surgeon and nutritionist about this immediately. Don't wait to do this either. It's not normal. Let us know what they say.

    surgery cancel Dr. sick:(

Oh that's terrible but things happen for a reason and purpose. Don't get to down about this. Things will work out for the best. Maybe this surgeon wasn't to be the one to take care of you and to do your surgery. It's still going to happen just a little later then planned. You keep coming here for support and to talk as much as you want. You take care of yourself.
  9. Could some one please give me instructions on how to post under recent topics. I can't figure out how.

So, it's not an app you use? It's just the safari browser? You should be able to see the reply window at the bottom of the page? Or, at the top of the page is a button that says "write a reply"? Is this what you're asking or are you trying to start a new topic? If you're trying to start a new topic, just go to the forums page and find the specific forum you want to start a new topic and click on "Start New Topic"? If this doesn't work for you, just ask Alex Brecher

  10. You're most likely doing nothing wrong except weighing yourself to often. You just had surgery and your body is trying to adjust to the shock still. You will flexuate that's why I say don't weigh everyday. Do it once a week at the same time of day wearing the same thing each and every time. You will be less likely to get frustrated with your progress and less likely to question yourself if you're doing the right things. Be proud of yourself and the great thing you did for yourself. Continued success on your journey.
  11. I would say that I should have listened to my primary care doctor and had done this earlier in my life then I did but it didn't hit me till last year that this needed to be done. I had no problems with required weight loss prior to surgery. The matter of fact I lost more then I was required to. I had no problems with the pre op liquid diet either. I have had no real problems since surgery either except for loose bowels for a while after surgery. I'm pleased with my decision.

    exercise.....where to begin?

After surgery I worked slowly from the treadmill and an elliptical machine to now riding the stationary bicycle for at least 8.50 miles at level 6 for 40 minutes. I do this four times a week and walk the other days. I have some physical ailments that limit things I can do but I hope to get the clearance to get a trainer who specializes in people with physical disabilities to start low weight training. I need to tighten up. I hope to get the clearance this week or next. Just have to do a couple of tests and once those results are in I hope to get the okay. So my suggestion is as soon as they get you up in the hospital to walk don't stop doing it until you can get the okay to move on to the next step which ever that will be for you. Good luck.

    milk making me sick?

It can happen. Try unsweetened almond milk or soy milk to mix your shakes with. Instead of whey protein use egg white protein. You can get that from Jay Robb which is sold at Whole Foods, Amazon, or directly from the company. Check with your nutritionist about these suggestions and tell them how you feel after eating dairy. See what they say. Feel better and let us know what happens with the change for you.

    Pounds lost.

Every single one of us is different and there is no way to answer this question. Each one of us has a different metabolism. It depends on how active you are after surgery. How well you follow your surgeons and nutritionist guidelines. I also depends on how much you have to loose. A lot of variables. I will say good luck to you tomorrow and keep us updated on how you are progressing.
  15. I use Jay Robb Whey Protein Powder. It comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and one other flavor. You can get at Whole Foods if you have one in your area, or I buy it from Amazon. You can also get it directly from the company. I add to it Torani sugar free syrups to add to the flavor. They come in a multitude of flavors. I buy the big bottles directly from the company. They also sell smaller bottles at Walmart but in limited number of flavors. I also use PB2 chocolate peanut butter powder or the peanut butter powder to add more protein and taste. Now these are suggestions but if I were you I would ask your nutritionist if they are okay to use in they early stages for when you come home. Good luck tomorrow and the best to you.

    Help! - Clear Liquids Only

You can have sugar free jello, chicken broth, sugar free Popsicles, crystal light added to your water. Get your hands busy with a hobby, gardening or get your mind busy in a movie or book. You'll be fine and you'll make it through this stage. Good luck to you on your journey to a healthier you.
  17. We have all been there wondering and we make the right decision in the end. Being scared is normal but don't let in cloud your decision or over whelm you. I waited years too and struggled with health problems on top of health problems and finally the light bulb lite in my head and I woke up to reality that this was what I needed to do. I don't regret it in the least because my diabetes is gone, no more high blood pressure, no more high cholesterol, no more fatty liver, sleep apnea is gone. I'm also pleased with my weight lose. Bypass was a great gift to myself because it helped me get healthier. You have gone through the requirements to get this far don't let fear stop you totally. Good luck to you.

    Chicken Broth Recipe

Try The World According To Eggface. It's a website with all kinds of recipes. Look them it up on google. The recipes are for all kinds of stuff for every stage. Protein powders will clump if the soup is hot. You have to add it after and then only if it's warm. Unjury can tell you what that temp should be. Good luck on your journey to better health.

    Protein

Hi and welcome. Your nutritionist should have given you that information about how much you should be taking in. They are the experts about this and responsible for this information. I really suggest that you call them first thing in the morning and tell them your lost about this info. Each individuals program is different and has different restrictions depending on their weight and height. This is the best advise I can give you. Best of luck on your endeavors to better health.

    surgery the 8th

Shame on your partner for going without you and leaving you home IMO. You are very justified in being upset. Please don't let this get to you because you need to be as relaxed as possible for Tuesday. You're going through a big change from what you were used to with the lap band. Bypass surgery was not my first choice. I was going to have the sleeve and was all prepared for that until my gastric doctor told me because of my acid reflux I would be better off with bypass. I'm glad I had the bypass it's made a world of difference in my life. I'm sure you'll pleased with yours too. Just following all the guidelines your surgeon and nutritionist have set up for you and you'll do well. I wish you well on Tuesday and I hope that your partner will be there for you. Good luck and best wishes.

    RNY Tuesday July 8, 2014

Hi and welcome to here. People here are always willing to help and listen. I commend you for taking this step to a healthier you. Do you like to cook? If you do there is a great website called The World According to Eggface. You can look it up on google. She has recipes for all stages of the weight loss plan. Lots of helpful hints. Good luck with your surgery on Tuesday. Let us know how it goes for you. Feel good.
  22. No you should have waited until later to have had that yogurt. You are putting to much in your pouch at one time. You're still healing and will be for a long time so don't eat like that. You could do damage or stretch your pouch. Be careful not to eat more then the 4 oz at your meals. And in between your shakes. Good luck.

    Abdominal pain after bypass

Go to the ER immediately to get fluids in you. Call your surgeon now do not wait until tomorrow and I'm sure that that is what they will tell you to do. Being in so much pain at this point is not good and not normal. Please let us know what happens with you.

    im STARVING!

Check with your surgeon if you can have sugar free Popsicles or sugar free jello before you have it. It will probably okay but I wouldn't do anything without asking. Gum chewing is okay before surgery but never after. It will put air in your stomach and cause gas. I'm sure you were told this. Good luck with your procedure.
  25. If you can get Gas X strips that melt on your tongue that is what I use when I have eaten something that doesn't agree with me. Before you use anything ask your surgeon what they recommend to use. This is important to do. Take care and feel better.
