  1. My heart goes out to you. I know many of us have been victims of sexual abuse. Its even more disheartening when a trusted medical professional takes advantage of someone. Thank you for speaking out. Sending prayers your way.

Who say's the band doesn't work?

Good for you! I had bypass but I have several family members with the band. Sometimes, I don't know how to encourage them because I feel like we're on opposite ends of the spectrum. Your story clears it up a bit. We have to do some of the same things to make this work and be successful. Thank you for sharing!

How Do You Track Your Food?

I love MFP because it works with my fitbit. I have to use them together to get the best results. I like Sparkpeople too for the support but I find this group and my FB group is better for me.

    Achiness all over

Hopefully, it'll get better for you. I had major lower back/buttock pain after I was about a year out and 100 or so pounds down. Exercise helped and lots of trips to my chiropractor. I've noticed that my body continues to change shape also, even with slight changes on the scale my core and bottom are starting to finally lift and show progress. The pain is not as bad but it rears its ugly little head occasionally.

    Unprepared

On days like this. I'll hit a 711 or Walgreens and grab beef jerky, cheese sticks, an apple & nuts. Sometimes they have boiled eggs or yogurt. If I go to Walgreens I'll grab a 4 pack of protein shakes. Just keep a water bottle.
  6. I'd love to be a 9/10. I'm 12/14 at almost 2 years out. I still have hope I'll get to a 9/10.

    Homemade spaghetti sauce

Throw it over some boneless chicken in the crock pot with black beans, red bell pepper, celery, onion, mushrooms and more tomatoes. You might need to add some seasoning but yummm!

    no support

My husband was not supportive at first either. He's a huge Samoan and loved me at 314 pounds. When I finally got him to understand that I needed to do this for me in order to be the best mother and wife I can be, he was more understanding. He met my surgeon and my surgeon prayed with us at my appointment. That gave him comfort and he was better. He still tried to talk me out of it the day of surgery but he understood it was a personal choice. After surgery, when I hit 220, he'd ask me if I was done losing weight. I'd say nope and keep pushing. I weighed in at 180 today and he still ask me if I'm done yet. My response is still nope. Be confident in your decision. Remind him it is not about him. It is all about you and your health. He'll benefit from having a happier, healthier wife.
  9. Results...IMMEDIATELY!!! My clothes were hanging off me by 3 weeks out! You will definitely lose but if you want to reach your goal weight be prepared to work hard. The last 20-30 pounds can be painful to lose.

    Feeling annoyed

I'm with cowgirljane. I cook one meal for my family of 6. Protein, veggie and side. I make sure to feed my family healthy foods. Now, my husband is 6'7" & 420 pounds. He was not initially happy about my changes in meals choices but he's a big boy and can fix his own food if he doesn't appreciate my efforts. My children eat what cook...period. I'm almost 2 years out and I think my husband has fixed his own meal twice in that time. Healthy can be delicious too! Try new recipes and get your family on board. Stop working so hard. I'm sure they'd enjoy spending that extra time with you instead.

How do you puree your food?

    Magic Bullet
  12. I was lactose intolerant before surgery but now I can have as much as I like with no problem! Weird, right?

    Need suggestions

My go-to in this phase was tuna salad and chicken salad. I'd make them both like normal but use Greek yogurt instead of mayo then pulse it in my Magic bullet until it was blended. I also love chili so I'd make a pot for the family and just blend it till the chunks were gone. I don't really have recipes but I can tell you what I put into it. :-)
  14. I had hesitation. I was worried about complications and my decision. Make sure you have a great surgeon that you trust. When I felt confident in my choice for surgeon, I felt better all around. My only regret is waiting so long to have my rny.

You know you lost weight when

When your 13 years old son is helping with laundry and keeps hanging your shirts in your 9 years old daughter's closet. Its flattering but i can never find my clothes lol

    Hospital bag

I brought a ton of stuff but I'll list the stuff I actually used. Robe, slippers, advance directive, chapstick, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, deodorant, lotion, and charger. I had to use hospital soap for my shower so I didn't use the body wash I brought. I just walked alot and slept alot both days. I didn't need any of the other stuff I brought for entertainment. Trying to get the liquids down was a task in itself.

What's the scoop on chewing gum?

I never really stopped chewing gum. When I went back to work after surgery I started chewing again. I worry about my breath. @@Elode I love trident cinnamon!
  18. Popcorn is my go to snack! I make it old school in a pot with coconut oil and then sprinkle some lemon pepper and ground red pepper on it. I don't miss the butter at all. It's delicious!

    409 to 148!

I'm so motivated by your story. I started at 314 and I'm at 180 almost 2 years out. I want to be 155-160ish. It feels like a challenge but I know it's obtainable. Thank you for sharing!

    B12 shots?

I give myself injections monthly. It's easier than taking an extra supplement.

    Surgeon in alaska

Dr Michael Todd did my rny. He's in Anchorage and he's an excellent surgeon. He is strict with his patients but he has great outcomes and low complications. I'll be 2 years out in November. I still feel great!

What, if anything, do you collect?

I collect lighthouses. It's a reminder of my mother and her guidance. Her name meant light so when she passed away I started collecting them. I love the ocean also so it just makes me happy.

    New foods tried after surgery...

I love chocolate now! I hated it before now I treat myself with sf fudgepops and chocolate peanut butter protein shakes.
  24. I didn't have much pain after surgery. The constipation was horrible post-op. I tried diluted prune juice and dumped for the first, and almost only, time. I had surgery about a week before thanksgiving so I was a little nauseated by the smell of food and I had to cook for my family. Oh yea I had some pain after 2 weeks because I felt good and overextended myself. My doctor told me to rest and gave me another week off work. Other than that it's been smooth sailing. No regrets!
