    12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous

Just found this thread. Was banded a year ago and have been at goal for the past 4 months. I was lucky enough to only had to have 2 fills to find my sweet spot and lose 80 lbs. I have been a member of OA for 13 years and saw how some of my weight lose bothers and sisters were treated. I've only told my sponsor and the members of my Man's Group meeting. In OA abstinence is defined as not eating compulsively and staying clear of my individual binge foods. I just also took my one year coin. My anniversary date is the same date I started my liquid diet. My food plan is different from everyone else’s. I also see a nutritionist and a therapist. I told myself if I’m going through this I’m going to get all the support I can muster and so far it’s working. My band is another tool in my arsenal to fight my disease of compulsive overeating. I'm glad I've found you guys here. Keep coming back it works if you work it!

Why doesn't being "skinny" fix it all?

Girl can we talk? Before I started this venture I decided to see a counselor. I was not going to go through surgery only to regain this weight again. Seems that once you stop medicating yourself with food to stuff your feelings down you actually can feel. My relationship of 13 years is going down the toilet because I don't like the way I've been treated. Believe me all your feelings are valid. As long as no one is being hurt physically its easier for me to deal with them on the outside than stuffing them down with food. Needless to say I’m a bit more vocal than I used to be. As they say to bad they don't make a band for the brain.

    Countdown to goal.....

I have only had two adjustments. I hit goal about 3 weeks ago. Total loss of 74 lbs over 10.5 months. I have go to learn to stay off the scale and trust my eating plan. Looking forward to this Thread
  8. My Doctor was Dr. Horgan of UCSD in San Diego. He explains it like this and he does require it. The liquid diet shrinks the liver. This in turn allows them to give you less anesthesia and shorter recovery time. This also as previously said allows them to more easily retract the liver when doing the surgery. I was waking up as I was leaving the surgery room and was home relaxing by 1pm. (Surgery was at 9am) things went perfect. I included things like sugar free fudgpops, sugar free pudding and Jello, soups and broth. Good luck.

Share your ideas, what did you eat today?

Say diet or eating plan whichever your more comfortable with. It's a new way of eating you can continue the rest of your life. I started out at 264 and now am at goal 11 months later at 190. My meal plan is about the same every day. coffee with Mocha mix (warm liquid helps loosen the morning tightness of the band. 30 minutes later I have 1/4 cup quick cook oatmeal with 3/4 nonfat milk and tsp of I cannot believe it's not butter Mid morning I have a Protein bar (South beach) lunch - Smart Choice frozen meal (various) afternoon - Protein Drink or yogurt dinner - 3oz protein (normally chicken or lean ground beef patti) veggie and starch if I still have room. Evening - Hot tea (helps me take a pill I take in the evening) Like I said, I try not to stray to far from this routine. It's safe. I don't eat sugar and stay away from rice, bread, and chips. I find those will lead me down the road to a attempted binge which will only lead to me tossing everything back up. Thank God that's only happened a couple of times.
  10. Hey All, Just found this site and am eager to browse more but thought I would do this 1st. My name is Daniel and I live in San Diego, hence the title HA! Anyway. Had my surgery in mid Fedruary and am on my second fill. Lost 55 lbs to date. Would like to lose another 25 but I have reached my 1st goal of getting into size 36" jeans. Next goal is to be under 200 lbs. Will wait and see. Dr. Horgan did my surgery at UCSD and my insurance paid for it through Blue Cross HMO. Will chat more once I see the site more. Thanks.
