Prescribed Post Op Meals?
mrs.katie replied to Chris10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't pay $4k for 4 weeks of food no matter what. Tell them you have allergies (to being ripped off) or that you are a hardcore vegan. -
Prescribed Post Op Meals?
mrs.katie replied to Chris10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be honest. Tell them that you don't want to or can't afford that. Requiring you to buy their food is ridiculous. I get seeing a nutritionist but paying $4k cash sounds like a scheme to me. -
My mom had those same exact Popsicles after her surgery and she did fine. She actually did so well she used those as part of her daily liquid requirement because she couldn't stomach drinking liquids.

It's normal for some wounds to weep for a bit. Keep it covered with a gauze but don't try to block the flow with tape or a band aid. Try your best to keep it dry and clean. If it doesn't stop after a week or if the fluid turns thick, changes colors, or begins to smell funny call your doctor. Those three things are signs of a possible infection.

Unjury unflavored protein?
mrs.katie replied to cfergie911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use it when I make fat-free/ sugar-free pudding pops. I'm experimenting with protein powder, and trying to find ways to shove it into foods. The Unjury protein powder really does not have a taste to it and that's good because you can add it to almost anything. I also used Jell-O sugar-free fat-free cheesecake pudding mixed with the Unjury and a bit of water to make frozen cheesecake bites. They turned out really well. -

I am praying that The Great Physician guides your surgeon's hands. -
It is normal. Now is the time to build your support system so you can deal with your food issues before surgery. Weight-loss surgery support groups and Overeaters Anonymous are helpful.

OMG Whats that smell?!?!?!
mrs.katie replied to w106fox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as smelly gas, zinc is your friend. You can find supplements at any store. When it will go away is another question though. My mother had the RNY surgery over 10 years ago. To this day she still has horrible, horrible gas and when she does number two it is like death. I hope that your situation gets better, but she has noticed some patterns. Her gas and her 'movements' smell worse when she has dairy or certain other foods. You may try food logging and cut out certain things at the same time. This will let you know if it is a trigger food; they can easily be avoided. -

With the stairs issue there are a couple of options. Wake up with DH and have him take DS downstairs before he leaves. You could go down too and finish sleeping. Turn a downstairs room into a makeshift bedroom and relocate your furniture. Get someone to come over every morning and help DS downstairs. Get a houseguest. Put him in a laundry basket, whistle like Snow White, and have the woodland creatures help. I don't have any clue how much a 14 month old weighs, but I know it's more than 8. My nephew was born weighing 8 and no one mentioned it being abnormal. It could be a while, meaning months, depending on how much he weighs. -
Just remember that corn is not a fruit or a vegetable. Corn is a grain and should be treated as such. Corn has as much sugar as it does protein and that means I won't be eating it anytime soon.

My doctor told me no lifting anything over 8 pounds, that is one gallon of milk, for at least four weeks. He said that everything needs a chance to heal, and I could rip a staple line if I lift anything too heavy too soon. He did say that included children, and I informed him that I don't have any children. I'm guessing that would also include your child. You should ask your doctor, but you don't want to risk tearing anything and then ending up with a leaky gut. -

I have heard this same thing from some people, but none of my friends to have had the RNY have noticed a difference in their sense of taste. I am going to take my chances and stock up on food for the three weeks after surgery because my doctor told me I'm not allowed to drive for two weeks after surgery since I am so close to my last surgery. -

I don't know what kind of fool you are, but surgery is not the easy way out. Surgery is a tool that if those who use it use it correctly works very well. If this is your first post, and your other posts are going to look like this, don't bother to post to any thread that I'm in because I'm probably going to ignore you. The drivel coming out of your mouth doesn't even belong here. -

Congratulations! My doctor admits all of his bariatric patients to the hospital for three full days post surgery so he can make sure you don't have a leaky gut. He also runs a guy test. Right now is your opportunity to shop for the food before and after your surgery. You may not be able to drive for a few days and you do not want to be stuck at home with nothing to eat. Also, you may look into apps for your phone or get a journal to log how much you drink after your surgery. This will be very important because you do not want to become dehydrated. Since you are not staying overnight in the hospital you won't really need to take anything. You will want to wear comfortable clothes, such as a house dress or caftan. The incisions will be sore and your stomach will be swollen so prepare to have clothes be a little bit tight. If you do not have a food scale, you should look into one. If you don't want to buy a scale you can use measuring cups. The measuring cups will not be as accurate as a scale but they will suffice. You also need to look into one and 2 ounce containers. Typically, a shot glass is 2 ounces. Walmart does sell small condiment holders that each will hold 3 ounces and they come four for one dollar. I am just as excited as you are, and I have to keep reminding myself to take a deep breath and relax. These days will fly by. -
First day pre-op diet- SO HUNGRY!
mrs.katie replied to katie206's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How are y'all handling the liquid diet? I have had to turn off the television because I have begun noticing that every commercial seems to feature food. I live across the street from the restaurant that makes really good barbecue. They start smoking the meat at around 4 AM so by the time Noon arrives the entire neighborhood smells like smoked fabulousness. -
Any August 21st Surgery Dates out there?

I buy it at Publix but you can get it at almost any regular grocery store (not discount like save-a-lot or Aldi) and Walgreens/ CVS. I use the capsules because the powder is disgusting Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

If those are your reasons, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel better about yourself. Everyone deserves to do the things they want, you aren't an exception to that rule. There is no such thing as a more noble reason to want to be thin, anyone who tells you that their reasons are better seriously needs to get over themselves. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
