  1. I'm 11 days out and I can't find anything that seems appealing, food-wise. I have tried all sorts of things but the thought of eating sort of makes me nauseous. Is anyone else having this problem? It is like my taste buds were exchanged during surgery. I don't like artificial sweeteners, and they never bothered me before. Artificial colors and flavors are present in all the Jello, puddings, and Popsicles so there really isn't a way around them, but they make everything taste god-awful. Am I going crazy? Nothing tastes good

Thank you all for validating my weirdness. I can't figure out what I want, hopefully I will soon though. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    August 22nd!

I am having food issues! Nothing looks good, not much tastes good, and I know I am nowhere near my goals as far as liquid intake. Sugar-free Popsicles have been a lifesaver. I can eat those even when I can't drink or eat anything else. My throat closes and just won't swallow, until I break out the Popsicles. I know it's in my head but I just can't figure out which foods to eat. Tomorrow I am heading to our corner grocer for some more Popsicles. At least they help the liquid numbers a bit. Is anyone else having the problem of nothing seeming appetizing? Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  4. The morning after surgery I had a dye test on my pouch to determine if it was functioning correctly. I was given 2 oz of liquid and tried sipping it slowly. The tech got upset and said, your pouch isn't full, look at the screen. Sure enough, the liquid was emptying from my stomach at a good rate, but I felt stuffed after less than half. liquids will pass right through. I think some people will feel full and others won't. We are all doing great! I can't wait to watch as we 22nd'ers take this journey together. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  6. I am going to wait around 6 weeks. I had a partial hysterectomy July 22nd and my RNY August 22. Also, my husband is gone for a while with the Army so it isn't as though I have a choice. If it were a simple situation I would still wait around a month. You wouldn't want to be in the middle of "rocking the boat" and blow a gasket.

    August 22nd!

I'm sleeping better, but nowhere near good. Oh I feel you on those heparin shots. I'm still bruised and I was off them Sunday. I am progressing but I'm not getting my liquids in either. I'm sitting at 30 oz a day, far short of my goal. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  9. I called my dietician and she said I could move to stage 3 once I explained what is going on. I've never been so excited to eat cottage cheese in my life! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  10. I am on day 7 as of today and I am so sore! I am still sleeping in the recliner since I can't get out of bed and I am covered in bruises. The heparin that prevents blood clots allowed every trauma to look like a Hitchcock movie. I've got some as small as 2" in diameter and some as long as 8". My belly is huge, misshapen, and hard. I had noticed that my belly button incision felt warm and hard, today I found out why. A brand new bruise, around 5" tall and 9" wide is centered on that incision. The whole thing is so painful. I weighed myself the morning I came home. I had gained 18 lbs. in the 4 days since surgery. I am down to only +2, but it's so frustrating not being able to post a loss. 11. I do feel better but I am Soooo thirsty. I can barely move, but that's an increase from being completely unable to move. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Jewelry Removal

Your body runs on electricity, and is a great conductor. That is why they can "jump-start" you with a defibrillator after your heart stops. It's basically slamming 300 watts of electricity straight into your heart. Any time doctors use electricity in surgery there is a risk of burning. This risk is small, but it happens enough that you don't want to test the theory. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  13. I gained 18. I am one week out and still up 2. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Diarrhea after Surgery

I'm on the same day as you. We aren't eating anything that will bulk up and form a solid poop yet. I know it's gross, just hang in there.

    Jewelry Removal

My mom works in surgery and she has witnessed burns from arcing. It ain't pretty. On a positive note, ceramic, tungsten, and plastics won't do this. During this, which technically isn't a true arcing, electricity is carried through your body, not the air.
  17. I am right there with you. I am smack in the middle of my two weeks of pudding, Protein shakes, and Jello. I am SO SICK of sweet. chicken broth, miso soup and beef broth are just not cutting it. I don't want salty, I want savory.

    August 22nd!

I didn't have either of those, but both are very common. In fact, many surgeons routinely remove the gallbladder during these procedures. This is because losing a large amount of weight can freak out your gallbladder. On a different note, I wasn't logging well and today I really focused on documenting. Bad news, I only got 26 oz. so far. This is way short of my goal of 40. It's just so hard. I'm already sick of jello and pudding. I know, I never thought I would be sick of pudding but I am. All I can think about is cottage cheese, liver wurst, braunschweiger, pâtés, and the like. I am sick of sugar-free! I thought I would be vegan but the thought of that is a complete turn-off. I will still be organic, but it looks like veganism isn't in my near future. Maybe I will change my mind again, who knows how this strange journey will continue.

    August 22nd!

Weigh-in Thursdays will be awesome. Don't be afraid to post a week with a gain or no loss! You may not have lost all of your surgery gain. My surgeon said that it takes some people longer than others to un-swell.

    4th day post surgery pain

Mine was Thursday too. Right now I can hold 2 oz. of liquids or 1.5 oz. of pudding or Jello. I can't imagine trying to push for 3 oz. at this point. I usually drink 4 oz. over an hour or drink 2 and eat 1.5. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    4th day post surgery pain

I think it's normal. I just had my guts rerouted last week so things are going to feel off for a bit. I can't do 2 oz at a time. When was your surgery? Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Best Sugar Free Jello

So far I love strawberry and peach. I also love layering Jello and pudding. Peach jello with banana pudding and more peach jello. The mix of textures is wonderful. I also am loving my pudding pops. I want to make a jello pop but I'm not sure how well that would turn out. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
