I hate to say this, as I am a 'scale watcher' but try not to put all the emphasis on the numbers that the pesky scale reads to you. This is not the only way to measure success.
I agree with Griffan, look at how your clothes fit too - and if you haven't done already, take measurements... they are a good indication of you reducing your body mass and will probably change even when the scale doesn't!
I am nearly 4 years out now and still not at surgeon's goal - albeit just pounds away! Does that mean I am not a success? Does that mean, that just because the scale doesn't read a certain number then I have failed? Urm, hell no! I have improved the quality and longevity of my life ten fold... and I consider that a huge success and a big two fingers to the number on the scale. I have gone from a UK 24 - UK 12 in that time and I am often told that I 'do not' look my weight! I am also told that I shouldn't lose any more... even though my BMI is still overweight.
I have encounter many many long and painful stalls; the longest being nearly two years in duration but I still went down a dress size in that time. I am currently in another one - 6 mths since my scale has moved. I continue to 'tick the right boxes' but my body will do what it wants when it wants. I am also in the throws of early menopause, and I think the hormone imbalance has something to do with it too - but I am no doctor and this is just my 'feelings' on the matter - I might be wrong?
Sorry for the long reply, but I just wanted you guys to know that you are doing nothing WRONG! Just go with your surgeon's post op recommendations/plan and stick with it. This is a commitment for life - a permanent solution that will help you get healthy, and that means happy!
Stay with it, trust yourself and your intuition and you'll see yourself get healthy. Good luck!

I am in the same position, just shy of 2 months but the scale is not moving for the last 2 weeks BUT my cloths sure are hanging differently. I want to see that scale move again. Maybe I will also try the liquid diet for a day or 2...Good luck

    riisey007,
I just came out of an aggravating 7 week stall myself, which completely included my third month post op and then some. At a recent visit with the bariatric physician, she suggested that I take my Fluid consumption from 64 to 80 ounces or more. The science being that taking in more Water helps your body release Water. She also raised my Protein from 70 grams to 80 grams. I still drink one shake per day to help get that Protein in. For that I had to increase my calories from 600 to 800-1000, to break an apparent bout of starvation syndrome. Well guess what? The stall broken and weight loss has resumed. I wish you good health and good luck with your weight loss.

Same here I'm tired of chicken broth, popsicles, Water, diet juice 15 grams of sugar or less and coffee with no cream.
I've only lost 10lbs since March 31, 2014 which was my surgery date. I am sooooooooo disappointed according to their scale and 22lbs according to my scale. Not what I was expecting. I see my doctor again on May 1, 2014, even though the last time I saw him all he said was stick to the diet. I'm like what?????? I hoping that my weight lost will get greater later~sooner than later~~~~~~Not to mention they want me to eat nothing but chicken broth, popsicles, Water, diet juice 15 grams of sugar or less and coffee with no cream until May 13, 2014. Then I can start puree and soft foods.

    Hi,
I am 6 weeks post op and hit my stall not long ago. It happened to occur with the introduction of some real food and not just Protein shakes and Water. I am pretty sure that it involves sodium and Water retention though I am not doctor and after my body lost fat but gained water weight I balanced out and started losing again.
Monitor your salt/sodium intake for a week and see how that works for you and keep us posted.
    Best of luck next week!

You are doing Great... 30lbs is something to be proud of!!!
Are you keeping track of what you actually put in your mouth? you might be surprised by your carb & fat intake if you are not keeping track. Make sure you are eating Protein first & you are getting all your Water in... & make sure you are walking or doing some kind of excersice every day.
Try to do 3 days of just Protein shakes... it could jump start you back into losing weight...
But dont beat your self up, everyone goes through these types of stalls. I did at 6 weeks - ugh it was awful... and gained 5lbs i wasnt even eating that much food. but it too passed... I dont get my period any more - but even though i dont, my body still goes through the cycle as in weight gain etc... and i never knew this till after surgery... so i know come the 20th to the 30th... I STAY OFF THE scale -
Good luck to you!! Keep your chin up, you didnt gain the weight over night, its not going to come off that way either

We must always keep in mind that not everyone will experience problems and when listening to others and their experiences we should really be cautious. Some of these blogs that I have read on different sites should come with warning signs all over them. Always remember when receiving second hand information or third hand that you never know the entire story. People only tell you what they know which may not be much. I Actually had to call some out on you tube that posted a video of how the lapband failed her and that no one should get it, of course there were quite a few people who were apprehensive to have the surgery after watching her rant and rage for 12 minutes. My question to her was did the lapband fail her or did she fail the lapband?, Wls is a tool and if we dont get off of our butts and use or tools by getting in the gym, walking, lifting weights, cutting out fatty foods etc, we will fail at wls. I asked her how she was with exercising and monitoring her food intake and I never received a reply, I even inboxed her. So this is the problem, people are not being accountable and it is continuing after wls and this causes wls to not work. I told my doctor that during my 6 month diet I had a lot of changes to make because I have a big sweet tooth and it was not under control, I have to say 3 months into this 6 month diet I know that I can eat fruit, make a smoothie, or even have yogurt instead of having a twix, cheesescake, etc. Every surgery poses a threat to your life, but as it stands right now my life is being cut short daily by being as big as I am. I have read stories and I fortunately have witnessed with my eyes a lot of success stories. I just talked to a dear friend from high school that just told me today that she had no problems at all after her wls surgery and now 4 months later. Sorry for the long post but just be mindful that second hand info does not always give you all the information.

Common complications? I run a support group. The most common complications that I see are:
    - Vitamin deficiencies esp Iron
    -dumping and reactor hypoglycemia.
    -gallbladder issues and removal needed
    -ulcers (NSAID use or smoking)
    -strictures
    -hernias
    There's been a handful with
    -twisted bowels (obstructions), Intussusception
    -pneumonia
    -leaks
    -blood clots.
And quite a few: substantial or total regain.
This is a support group that has hundred of members.
Regardless, I don't know one person who after the first 6 months, regrets surgery.

Riisey007 I know exactly what you mean. I have been pinning outfits on Pinterest to keep myself excited. I have not purchased a lot of clothes in this size. It is very stressful when we have an event to attend and then I do not have anything to wear. My husband is very fit, we use to run and lift together, so it is very stressful when these events come up. I am excited to shop again and it will nice to go into my closet and the struggle will be which outfit to wear. You have the right outlook and seem to be a very positive person. Those grandbabies can be a great motivation to stay on track. I have two girls a 15 year old and a 9 year old and I am looking forward to being an active part of their life. Best of luck to you and I hope to see you continuing to blog on here.

I agree SFacey, some people aren't very honest with themselves much less others but still want to dish out advice. The first thing to successful weightloss is being honest with yourself, coming clean and admitting where you went wrong and only after you face that and tackle it head on will you be ready to lose weight successfully. I think some people just don't confront their demons and so they never get a grip on eating correctly. I am pre op and at first I was mad about the 6 month diet requirement of my insurance but after I really sat down and thought about it I feel like it is very necessary. I began to print off recipes, articles, I found you guys, and it has made me look at food differently. Sometimes my mind will tell me I am still hungry but I know I have eaten enough and so I just ignore it, before deciding to have weightloss surgery I would go ahead and eat more and then feel sorry for myself, no more!! I want to live, I have 2 grand babies and my kids promised me a big birthday party. I also want to go in the mall and by pass Lane Bryant. I can't wait!! Don't let people scare you out of what you feel is right for you.

I heard horror stories, too. The fact is that rny is safer than gallbladder surgery. Common complications are things like strictures and ulcers. Talk to your Dr. I found that the people who told horror stories were woefully uniformed. I had surgery on 4/29 and have had no complications. Loss of bowel control? Maybe if you eat sugar and dump before you can get to a bathroom, but I doubt it. The answer to most complications is to follow the plan to a t. Eat clean. Chew well, etc. If you're worried, talk to your doctor at length and they will outline every possible complication. Also remember that most people don't know that rny is mostly done laproscopically now....it used to be more dangerous and people don't have current information.

That's exactly why I only told the people closest to me. I knew people would have to share their opinion with me and I didn't want to hear it! I had one complication 5 days after surgery. I would do it again in a heartbeat! People are too quick to judge and they are not informed.

As long as you follow your surgeon's and his team's advice, you should be fine. Focus on the positive rather then the negatives from everybody else.
We all go thru different experiences based on the choices we make.

I agree, everything on here needs to be taken with a grain of salt. One of they things that they have mentioned in our support group out our hospital is that you will hear stories of things that worked for some and they may not work for you. I have friends that are 8-9 months out and have had very little problems, not even much nausea.
I also work in an ER that has nurses that use to work on a bypass floor and there are many stories of patients having family members bring them chicken nuggets while recovering from bypass surgery. I do not remember where the chicken nugget falls in the calendar for being an OK food. Another girl had her mom get her a strawberry milk shake and it ended in tragedy. If the food is not on your surgeon's list of foods to eat DO NOT EAT IT!!! We have come to far to suffer a setback now.
