    How about some NSVs!?!?

For the first time in about 22 years, I weigh less than my husband!! I think that made me happier than onederland!!! I was giddy.

    June Post Ops!

Went for my 4 month appointment today. I'm actually 4 1/2 mos. out. I've lost 68 lbs. Feeling really good about that. I have about 50-55 lbs. to go. Got confirmation of a hernia. I really didn't have any doubt. They hope to wait until next summer, when I'm a year out, to surgically repair. Hoping I can wait it out w/o problem. If it becomes painful it may require emergency surgery. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Congrats!! It's a great feeling. I was there a week ago, but went up this week due to constipation. Really sucked. Back down today. Weighed in at my doctors at 197.5 with clothes on!! Yay for onederland!!

    What ya eating tonight?

Barq's diet cream soda is excellent, but it's hard to find. We don't have it here in Indianapolis, but they do in Cincinnati.
  5. Okay, I hit onederland today. I was very excited and texted my husband with the news since he was at work already. I've told a fair amount of people about my surgery and my husband had permission from me to tell his co-workers about it. He did not, however, have permission to tell them about onederland. In my opinion that was very personal. I don't particularly want his co-workers to know my starting or current weight. Well, he was "proud" and shared the news. I feel guilty being upset because I know he had good intentions, but I am upset.
  6. My 48th birthday is Saturday and the scale has been toying with me all week. Well, today our fidgety scale weighed me at 198.5 twice and 199 once. I think I can officially say I'm in onederland!!! WooHoo!!!
  7. There are diet versions of Ocean Spray. I think they have 5 calories/cup. I like the cran-cherry.

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

I'm so sorry this didn't turn out the way you had hoped. I know it's beyond difficult, but you'll get through it. I think there's a really strong chance that your body will be more ready in a few months. Try to think positively. I really think your new lifestyle will make this happen eventually. Hang in there.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

In the past when I took a bath and drained the water there would still be water behind me when I stood up because my body acted like a dam. Today I stood up and all the water had already drained out!! My body is no longer as wide as our tub!!! WooHoo!!

    June Post Ops!

How many if you have had lab work done? My surgeon doesn't do it until sometime after 6 months. Don't recall when, but thinking it might be a year. Seems too long to wait. Want to make sure my vitamin levels are good. My GP denied my request for labs.
  12. I'm three months out and I have not had blood work done yet. My surgeon doesn't do it for quite a while still. I think she said 6 mos. or 9 mos. I'm not comfortable waiting that long, but my regular doctor said I needed to go through my surgeon. What is generally recommended? I'm off all my pre-op meds and I want to make sure things are okay. I also want to make sure vitamin levels are good. I know my blood pressure is good and I did a finger prick test for blood sugar, which was also good. I was never technically diabetic. My levels were just creeping up. Thoughts and advice?
  13. Make pumpkin smoothies. They're yummy!!

    What ya eating tonight?

Ugh...I had almost half of a Spud Ole from McAlisters. Surprised I ate as much as I did. Should have weighed it. Realized too late that it was over 400 calories. My calorie count for the day is just over 1,000, which is about 300 more than usual. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

One month post op and calorie intake

I was told to get at least 75 g. of protein. When I saw my NUT, she said that I was probably consuming too many calories. I was about 8 weeks out at that time and I was consuming up to 700 calories/day. She also wanted me to cut way down on carbs. I try to keep my carbs at 50% of my protein. That being said, your weight loss sounds terrific. Congrats!!

Is it wrong that it brought me joy today when a child in my class said "My mom is bigger than you. You're skinnier than her."

    Protein Shakes ? Food ?

You may not be able to get in all your Protein and liquids at first, but you'll work up to it. You'll concentrate on liquids first and foremost. As far as shakes go, your tastes may change after surgery. I would not count on your favorite type staying your favorite. Personally, I keep chocolate, vanilla, and plain protein powders in the house to add to things like yogurt, smoothies, milk, etc... Also, don't buy oodles of food ahead of time. I wasted a ton on money on things I never used. I have baby food meat, dried milk, lots of broths, ready made protein shakes, and lots more than I'll never use. I had a relatively easy time with food and once I got to the puréed stage, I didn't really need anything too specialized. Good luck to you from a fellow planner!!

    June Post Ops!

About 6-7 years ago I lost about 50 lbs. through diet and exercise, but I regained it all and then some. I saved all that old clothing and I've been happily fitting into it again. Today while looking for things to put in next week's garage sale, I found 4 totes of forgotten clothing in sizes 22-14. I'm currently in a 22 or 20 depending on the item. It felt like I won the lottery!!

    Rough night

Hi Terry, Lilah is our third also. We have two bichons. We had a black lab, but he had to be put down 2 years ago due to failing health. He was an incredible dog and we weren't ready to think about adopting another one until now. Lilah seems to be doing well so far. She LOVES food, so we're going to have to be more careful about what we leave out. I can so relate to her love of food!! Good luck with your new dog. They truly are members of the family. ~Pam

    Rough night

I started reading your post and thought "Did I post in the middle of the night?" We are also adopting another dog. In fact we got her yesterday. She's a 5 year old chocolate lab named Lilah. I also had a particularly rough night. Breakfast and lunch were healthy and went down fine. That evening we had to travel about an hour away to pick up an Invisible Fence collar from someone on Craigslist. I went unprepared. We ended up stopping at Kohl's for my daughter and before I knew it, it was 8:30 and I'd barely eaten all day. I ate the beef off an Arby's roast beef for dinner. I'd done this once before and both times it went down smoothly. My protein count was still way too low to call it a day. Around 10:00, I asked my husband to whip up a healthy smoothie, but we were out of milk. Instead, I ate a Detour protein bar and a container of Fit and Light Greek yogurt. That put me at 75 g. of protein for the day and it also made me sick about 30 minutes later. Wanted to throw up, heaved a few times, but never actually threw up. Got a little foamy, stomach hurt, and just didn't feel well. Now I have diarrhea and a headache. Oh joy, nice start to my Sunday. Glad you're doing better!!
