    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Its amazing how fast my 2 week appt came up- was advanced from puree to 'soft foods', and down 22 lbs from my pre-op appointment. I still just dont feel great- I have read about people having this energy burst but I havent seen it yet. I get so tired, so quickly...and my insides just dont feel 'right'. My doc said its all normal...and because I also had my ovaries removed my recovery may be a little slower than others. Anyway....I want to tell everyone thank you for posting as we are going along. I dont reply to many posts- but its so encouraging to know that there are others who are going through this right along with me. Sip...sip...sip...

RNY and Gyn surgery at the same time

On 10/21 I had both the rny and my ovaries/tubes etc removed. I am so glad I did it at the same time. My surgeon did the rny first, then the gyn came in and did her part. My rny doc actually assisted the gyn- because he wanted to be fully aware of everything going on inside of me in case there were future issues. He didnt like that I was on the table for so long- about 5.5 hours- but I guess I had some scar tissue down by my ovaries that took a while. Anyway....day 10 of recovery. I think I have had more pain that the others I have read about, with an extra 4 incision cites. Actually only two sites have been really bad- the two biggest ones- and today is the first day I feel better that way. I have had a hard time telling whether the hot flashes and night sweats are from the surgical menopause, or from taking pain med. Perhaps a little of both. I meet with my gyn in a couple of weeks to talk about estrogen replacement (Im 40). Anyway, send me a message if you want to talk Chelle

I think the emotianal stuff hit me last night. Im so overwhelmed, and tired, and just....want to sit here and stare at a blank white wall. Its just me and my 15 year old here, and I swear that kid is trying to take advantage of everything right now....I swear its worse than having a toddler. I truly dont have the physical or mental energy to do what I need to do with him. Now Im completely questioning myself... I need to be able to deal with his crap. Ugh. I just cried last night....I just need time to heal physically- it hasnt been all that long. It would probably help if I could get all my Protein in....that is my goal today. Even if the whole rest of the world falls apart.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I had a funny 'moment' last night that I wanted to share. Just to preface......pre-surgery I looooooooooooooove pizza. I would do anything for pizza. Ok...so its just me and my 15 yr old son who live here- and he starts doing the "please please mom, can I make a frozen pizza for dinner...please please please" Pizza cooking in my house, one week after surgery...ummmmm bad idea. Anyway...the poor kid has to eat right? So I relented and said yes.....but I told him that he had to cook it, eat it, do all of the dishes that he used, put the leftovers in a baggie in the fridge in a way that I cant see the toppings.....and if there was one crumb of anything ANYWHERE I would ground him for 2 weeks. Um....2 weeks really??? He rolled his eyes, and told me how I exaggerate....but guess what- not a crumb anywhere Cheers to me over-reacting

Thank you so much for the update! I have been thinking about you and it sounds like you are getting through things well. I am completely envious that you are no longer in pain. I still hurt from the two biggest sites....a lot! Anyway...just wanted to say great job!!! Chelle

My doc said as soon as I am not on pain medication any longer- he estimated that would be around the 2 week mark.
  13. Im not sure which part it has been about....the ovaries or the rny.Yeah Im the same way about having someone help me wipe....I have had to be very creative lol. It was good to see kkelly post about not having that issue....perhaps it was the ovary part. Hopefully we can get some other feedback for you as well.Hugs to you!!! And good luck!!!

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I was having a really hard time controlling the pain. My doc said it was because I also had my ovaries removed, and they did some exploratory down around them with a ton of scar tissue. Today, I actually think I might live.
  15. I had surgery on 10/21- Monday and wanted to give an update. So, I had the rny, and I also had my ovaries removed. I was in surgery a total of 4.5 hours. I guess they ran into a lot of scar tissue when working on my ovaries. I have 3 extra holes because of that. Day 2 was BY FAR the worst as far as pain. We were trying to remove the IV and keep my pain under control with oral meds. Bleck. I wanted to walk a bunch more than I did, but it was hard to keep getting someone in the room to unhook my leg massager things, and reattach my oxygen to the portable oxygen tank. For some reason my oxygen kept tanking. I finally started using the spirometer thing (spelling?) and was able to cough up a bunch of gunk.....that helped my sat's a ton. When I came home I still needed a lot of help transferring. Getting up, sitting or laying down etc. Today is the first day I am doing it on my own. I havent hit my Protein goal yet, but will try again today. I am getting good Water however- so yay! Ooooh in the hospital they gave me this NASTY stool softener- and sent a huge bottle home with me. Turns out, I don't need it at all. Seems the more liquids go in, the same amount come out. The hardest part is trying to twist and get wiped and cleaned up. Sorry....probably TMI....but I try to time my 'bathroom' events to be shortly after I have taken a pain med so its more tolerable. Hope this helps someone. I know I was sure craving these detailed stories before my surgery- so here is mine. Hugs and prayers to everyone!!

    Last supper syndrome.

Today is ok- although sipping on my Protein drink is nasty- and its only day 1. Im not really hungry though. At one point I smelled my co-workers pizza and thought mmmmmm- but I drank a bunch of Water and its better now. I think I need to mix my powder with something other than skim milk. I dont like milk much anyway. My surgery is just two days before yours, on the 21st. I hope this two weeks goes by fast. Good luck when you start on Wednesday!!!!!

  24. My pre-op is exactly the same- for two weeks. I start Monday. I went and bought a bunch of Lean Cuisine meals for dinners this couple of weeks. Praying for self control.
