    Shredded Cheese

Thank you! I gave it a try today and not only was the turkey chili and cheese the best thing I've had in weeks, it went down really well too I appreciate the feedback.

    Shredded Cheese

Hi guys. Had surg the 22nd of November and I was just cleared for soft/puréed foods. I'm allowed to have chili - I want to put a little shredded cheese on top to amp up the protein but I have heard people sometimes have an issue with the stringy texture after the cheese melts. Anyone want to offer insight?

    Food scale help?

I use a food scale. I find it easier than measuring cups. Check to see if your nutritionist lists required foods in ounces versus cups. I got my food scale at Walmart for $5.

    November 2013 Post Op

It's more than normal. I didn't go for 4 days after then I did for a few days, then I didn't. I'm 11 days post op. My dr said if it becomes a problem, to sip a little prune juice. Make sure it's 100% juice no sugar added. I have it in my fridge and haven't used it yet however, I'd take juice over powders or pills any day! Hope that helps! Also I know that for me, getting up and moving/drinking lots of water really helps.

Use the PB2 - I don't think PB is on my list until the last stage (4-6 weeks from surg) as it is a high sugar food. I've heard a lot of people dump from it!!!

Princess - I had gastric bypass and am still on liquids however, I can eat yogurt and I notice with yogurt that I can eat the whole cup!! It takes me a little but I can do it - I've heard people call these slider foods. Some foods of down easier. I don't know the ins and outs of band patients, but I would think that it is more normal than not.

    November 2013 Post Op

I'm still on stage 3 liquids. I'm on them for 2 weeks post op. My first week is over and to be honest like everything else over the past few months - this too shall pass. My first few days were really rough trying to get Proteins and fluids in. I didn't feel like putting anything in my mouth. Now, I'm doing better. Today is day 8 post op. There are no other words to describe how I feel except - FANTASTIC. I haven't experienced getting up and feeling no pain in my joints in probably, years. I have so much energy and am happy. I am able to bend down without hearing my knees crack, able to walk a little without getting winded - I can't believe the amount of change I feel only from a little weight loss. I know someone said they were struggling with getting proteins and fluids in. I can say this - I drink from sun up to sun down. I always have something nearby to drink whether it be a Protein shake or Water. Remember to that things like decaf tea, Jello, broth are all liquids so count them! I have found the Protein shakes I thought were great, I can barely stomach anymore. After switching it up again, I am able to drink more and it tastes better. Other than my incisions being a little sore, my stomach feels pretty good. I had a lot of shoulder pain in the beginning and that passed after a couple days thank goodness!! My hw: 345. I was 322 the day or surgery. This morning, I weighed in at 311. I consider 11 pounds in one week a win. And I'm still fat. Go figure!! Lol - I desperately wanna see the 200's on my scale.

    November surgeries?

Woohoo!! That's awesome! I ate a whole cup of yogurt last night. Go figure!!

    November surgeries?

I was the same way - it gets better darlin, promise. Other than incisions, I really don't feel much right now. The liquids get easier each day out too. I had yogurt my first day home and could only finish half. Last night, I ate the whole cup! Took me 45 mins but I did do it!! I pooped on day 4 and was so proud of myself!! Lol you will get there!! Keep it up!

    4 Days Post Ops

Monyka - The Dannon Lite n Fit is sweetened with Splenda so it is safe. You will find sugar in all yogurt (because of the milk) but it is a nominal amount that should not hurt your stomach. It's a no sugar added yogurt and that's the one you want! I actually think that I am able to digest the yogurt better than anything else that I've tried. It's almost soothing in a way if that makes sense? The vanilla is a safe bet to start with - no seeds, no fruit. I do believe though that there are some other flavors that do not have the seeds and fruit in them as well.

    Walden Farms Foods

Aw, bummer! I'm nowhere near having any of them yet but I'm trying to look into all this stuff now so I don't set myself up for a disaster later down the road! I was wondering what the heck is even in them to make them not have 0 cals/0 carb!!

    November 2013 Post Op

Thanks! I'm also super excited now because I tried out the whole laying down in bed thing. I shoved a blanket under my stomach so it wouldn't fall towards the bed (I know that sounds gross) - I figured because my incisions and it was pulling and giving me shoulder pain. It worked LIKE A CHARM! I'm super duper excited to sleep on my side tonight. The little things!

    4 Days Post Ops

Hey I'm also 4 days post op. I don't know if you have a Home Goods near you but my husband found some great sugar free syrups for me to try. They are called "Jordan's Skinny Syrups." He bought pumpkin Spice and Peppermint Mocha. Tonight for dinner I had a Lean shake in chocolate with 1tbsp of the Peppermint Mocha. It was SO delicious. I am so excited to have the Pumpkin Spice for thanksgiving! Isopure is pretty good. Had the Blue Raspberry so far. I've heard that the grape is excellent. Twining's Purely Peppermint Decaf Tea is great at night. My nutritionist recommended throwing some crystal light into yogurt to give it some flavors. If you end up trying those syrups (which are about $4 each) you can even put them in SF pudding and give it a different flavor. I'm going to try it with the pumpkin spice and vanilla sf pudding. I tried yogurt last night for the first time. It was heavenly, truly. I ate very little but it went down better than anything I have tried so far. I like the Dannon Light 'n Fit Yogurt. It's 12g Protein in 5.3oz and I usually am able to get two "meals" out of it. Hang in there - I know what you mean about variety. I think about drinking Protein shakes for the next 10 days and I almost shudder. LOL - just gotta keep coming up with new tastes and I'll tell you - that Protein Shake I had tonight was EXCELLENT. I use Lactaid Fat Free milk with the shakes too, btw.

    Burping And Pooping!

You must have given me some good luck - I had one this morning (Day 4) and I was so proud of myself and relieved at the same time!!! Lol
  15. I'm 3 days post op and every single time I drink anything I burp. Not even burp. I belch in the most unladylike way. Is this normal?? And when will I be able to poop again?! Geez!!

    November 2013 Post Op

Madds Glad to hear you are feeling better! Remember that because you have a smaller amount of weight to lose, it will come off slower. You're losing. That is the most important!! Che- what Protein powders are you using/have you tried?? I find that some are horrible and others are pretty great. You can get creative with them too and use SF syrups!!

    November 2013 Post Op

Thanks I will try that! It has been lessening for sure! I still can't sleep in bed yet I'm a side sleeper and I get cramps in my shoulders when I try to. Slow but steady I guess!!

    November surgeries?

I'm so anxious to hear how you guys are feeling!! I know I was out at 11am and I pretty much slept all the way until 7 that night!!!

    November 2013 Post Op

Thank you for the encouraging words! I'm 4 days out now. I don't have the shoulder discomfort during the day but I find that I still have to sleep in our oversized living room chair at night. I'm NOT a back sleeper and I have incredible discomfort if I lay on my side and I'm not even gonna try my stomach! But, I'm starting to actually understand when I am full and when my pouch is asking for something. What a trippy experience that is!! Congrats on your 28 pound loss in just 20 days!! That's phenomenal!! I haven't even been listening to the scale the past few days because of the liquids I received in the hospital. I lost 7 pounds (in fluids) in the last two days I have been home so I'm ready to start losing! I hope I can lose that much!! You sound like you're doing a great job!!

    Need Protein drink ideas

I love the Designer Whey in White Chocolate with 8oz Lactaid milk. The Lean Protein in Chocolate is fantastic - that is premixed and powder. The Isopure is pretty good - all kinds of flavors.

    November surgeries?

Moxy - yes I got to go home. Still have some wicked shoulder pain. I can't really get comfy in my bed so I slept in our big recliner last night with the heating pad on my shoulder. Laying here, the only thing I can feel is my shoulders - no stomach. Go figure!!! I totally get the smell thing now. I came home last night and I kept asking my husband what that horrible garlic smell was (I remember seasoning my fish with garlic powder last Wednesday!!) He made a sandwich for dinner and I could smell the toast - which smelled horrible. I watched him eat a cheese stick and I wanted to gag!! We went to Rite-Aid last night to pick up my prescriptions from the dr and they had a huge cart of cakes and pies at the door. All I could taste and see, was fat. I saw a girl walk by outside with a pizza and I turned the other way. Food is everywhere!! Today marks the first official day I'm on my own with protein - gonna try an Isopure for breakfast. Looking forward to some soup broth for lunch maybe!! And nothing beats hot showers!! Kremmel - I did hear that somewhere about migraines. Like you, I suffer from chronic migraines. Imitrex always takes them away. I have cycles where one week I have 3 or 4 and then I'm okay for 2 weeks. I hope beyond hope that as I get healthier, the migraines will lessen! Sunshyn - You must be so excited. As the day comes closer, you re-evaluate everything. After the surgery, I was in some pain and my mouth was horribly dry. I remember thinking "why the hell did I do this?" It's okay to have moments of doubt. Celebrate those successes so when the doubt creeps in, it won't take very long for it to go away! BJ - You're in my thoughts, bud. You've made it through the 2 week diet (told you!!!) and you're ready to rock this surgery. Celebrate your last day before surgery by telling yourself why you won't ever go back to "that" place! I spent most of the day thinking, promising myself this was the last time I would feel guilty about being fat. Clear your head and get in the game!!! All my best wishes to you

    November 2013 Post Op

I'm 2 days post-op. I am SO unbelievably sore. I honestly didn't think I would feel this sore. My stomach I can handle, it's pain in my shoulders that is driving me nuts! I've been told a bunch of times now that it is trapped gas from the surgery and I have to walk around to move it out. I'm taking Dilaudid for pain (which I find has been helping) and hot showers are a blessing. Today was easier than yesterday. I just want to feel a little like myself again!

Got My Nut Appt On Dec. 23

Yes! It's right up there with childbirth! Lol - it's been better today. They are giving me dilaudid to help with the pain. My stomach is feeling pretty good for just having surgery a few days ago! And, I get to go home later today. Woohoo!!

    November Rny Post Ops

Hi Butterfly - I am going through what you are going through. I'm two days post-op and am supposed to be released today. Stomach wise I feel pretty good, still sore and taking my time with liquids. The thing I'm struggling with is my shoulders and middle of my back. They are SO sore I can't believe it...I would love to take a hot shower. Haven't been able to since Friday morning. You aren't alone, trust me!! We will get through this together!!

    November surgeries?

I forgot to mention that I did experience the coolest thing today: Before surgery, I would take 50mg Imitrex as needed for migraine. Well, they are too big now. My surgeon surprised me and had already ordered 25's instead that are way smaller. With the 50's, it normally takes about an hour to work. Within 5 minutes of taking the 25's, my migraine was GONE. I couldn't believe it. Looks like smaller stomach equals better absorption in this case. I call that a win!
