How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

Dr. Watson, I was banded on May 5th, 2006. I have lost 52 lbs. I was wondering if this makes sense. I have not lost any weight other than a lb or so here & there in about 6 mos. My dr said that I am as full as he can make me and the rest is up to me. I struggle with exersize but my concern is that i can still eat quite a bit. Sometime I can not eat but other times I eat what a "typical" 120 lb woman would eat. Does the band ever get as full as it can be without a lot of restriction to the patient? Thanks for all of the great info. Robyn

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

I was banded on May 5th. I feel great just hungry all the time. I have my first fill next week, week 6. I am eating anything I want but raw veggies. I can eat alot which scares me. I am just trying to make healthy choices. I lost 20 lbs in a month-wow! I am so pleased but concerned that I am so hungry. I also can still drink while eating. I know I should not but I get so thirsty. I have to work on it. From what I understand, once the restriction is there, I will not bea able to... I am so happy with my decision and look forward to a great 2nd month! Keep up the good work everyone!!

    Hey Delawareans.

Congrats. I had my surgery on 5/5 @ St Francis. You will be pleased. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck. When is your date?
  4. I had my surgery on May 5th. I am so hungry! My DR wants me on liquids for 4 weeks. I can not do it. It seems like all Drs are different, some say liquids for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks etc. Figures my Dr said 4 weeks!!! I have had mushies already and I feel great. Since some DRs say less time, I cheated...I have had cottage cheese, american cheese, mashed potatoes & a scrambled egg. I have been eating cream of wheat since the first week. I am ready for some food. Is tuna fish with mayo considered mushy? I feel like I am ready for it but I am scared. Any advise?

    protien shakes

I had my surgery 1 week ago. I am on all liquids, living on soup & protein shakes. Check out UNJURY.com. It is the brand my surgeon recommended and it is good. There are recipes on their site as well. They have an unflavored that works well with most hot or cold foods. Just be sure to mix well and then heat up if adding to soup. Also to make my shakes thicker, and colder, I add sugar free Ice cream, just a scoop, it really works.

    Banded

Yes, my surgery was @ St Francis in Wilmington. DR Irgau was my surgeon. It was a great experience. The staff was wonderful and the new wing is nice. It was the quietest wing in a hospital that I have ever seen or been in. Good luck. Who is your dr? I feel good, just tired, sore & hungry but better than expected. The hardest part so far is having energy to function with such little calories. I'll get thru it. This is the hardest month, I have been told.. Have you gotten your protien yet? Make sure you get the unflavored UNJURY. I have tried it in about 5 different soups. Just do not smell it and you will be fine. Once it is dissolved there is no flavor. Just do not put it in tomato soup-yuk. I have been making shakes/smoothies with sugar free ice cream & chocolate protein that I got at walmart-YUM. If you would like to talk, my name is Robyn & my number is 610-932-5825. Please call me. Good luck....

    Delaware Bandsters Support Groups

I am planning on haviong Dr. Irgau do my banding after the first of the year sometime. I met with him in April but my insurance would not cover it. I am switching as of 1/1 so it will be covered. Did either one of you in De use him?

    Where are you?

I am so new to this since I am just beginning my journey. My mother had gastric Bypass so I know a lot about it but only a tiny bit about the banding. I just think the Lapband is more for me than the bypass since it is less radical. I have my consultation with my surgeon in May but where can I get more specific info about the ports, fills, cc's etc before then? Any advice will be great. Also, my mother got a lot out of her support group. Any ideas where one is in Chester County, Pa or New castle County, DE?
