  1. So I asked my surgeon what the deal is with gum. He said that there are two issues with gum. First' date=' if you swallow it, you HAVE to go to the ER because it WILL plug your stoma. Second, it produces A LOT of saliva. Saliva will do one of two things. Either fill up your pouch and esophagus and make you sick or go into your lungs. OR it will digest and push food through the pouch and make you hungry very quickly.

He said try not to chew gum but it is not forbidden.

Mine told me it was a ok, so I don't seem to have any problems with it.

And I feel ya in the Water. If I take too big of a gulp it will come back up. Lol.

  2. Hi! I feel like u I think I'm kinda scared to eat and drink. I just want to guzzle a xl Water but can't. Lol. Team Thirsty!! But I'm doing well too

ElleG, great to hear you are doing well!!! I know what you mean, I took a drink today and felt like it just sat in my chest. Not sure the what problem is. I'm thirsty also. Hahahahaha. Wish I had those swabs they had in the hospital to quench your thirst lol maybe I need to chew on some ice, that should do the trick. Lol.

  3. Hey Marchers!!!!

Just checking in with u all today. I'm praying everyone is doing well' date=' adjusting, chewing, walking and losing ;)

My biggest challenge is eating, I find myself afraid to eat at times, but I'm still in the fight!

Sending you all some HUGS today![/quote']

Just started stage 3 today. Boy do I get full quickly. Lol. I feel ya on the fear. Dumped my 5 th day out. Has me petrified. Lol.

  4. Hopefully getting better!! Today was a much better day. Took a shower. After 13 days with a drain tube And pic lines that was a huge accomplishment. Hoping to take another one tomorrow! :) I was able to go on two half laps around hospital floor...without throwing up after = miracle!! Funny thing is the surgeon came by and apologized because they admitted yep admitted to letting me get way beyond dehydrated. But since they have been pushing iv fluids in me like crazy I am feeling better! Biggest items were I drank 16oz of Water and 12 oz chicken broth and kept everything in!!! I hope I have turned the corner! My hubby has been such a great support. He's here everyday. Such a good man. Married 18 years and counting. My parents will be back in town tomorrow or Tuesday so I am also looking forward to seeing them. Thanks everyone for your support and kind words and prayers. Only people on this board really understand how hard this is. I would not go back aNd change anything' date=' or cancel the surgery. I just happened to be the 1/100 or however many that just ran into issues. I will tell you that if you are in pain or you think something is wrong get to your dr ASAP!![/quote']

So happy to hear each day is getting better and better. Your positive attitude is amazing. You are in my prayers.

  5. Your lucky mine told me to get in 60-65! I'm doing it but its hard I'm paranoid about my hair falling out my sister had surgery back in Nov and because she's not getting all her Protein in her hair is falling out :(

Oh heavens. I am addicted to tuna fish right now and shrimp so it does give me a lot of protein even if I don't make a Protein Shake. Yea my nut said by 6 months I will be up to 60 grams of protein. Someone on the march website put up something called protein 100. Maybe look into that.

  6. I've had insomnia since 2004. Even before I had rny. I can't do ambien bc unfortunately I'm a sleep walker' date=' texter, journaler, talker and I get up and cook toast...o.O they put me on restoril and I take that only when my benedryl doesn't work. I'm not even going to share the mg here with you guys bc you'd all freak but lets just say o go through a bottle of diphenhydramine at least twice a week. Its either that or do something insane like drive my car on ambien.[/quote']

Yes I have done the Benadryl also. And take 3 at a time but it was not working. Luckily on the ambien I am staying put haha well atleast I think I am! Haha.

  7. I'm still up at 5:30 and found this. This insomnia is freaking awful! Omg. I'm 4 weeks out and have had it for 2 weeks.

Guess I'm gonna have to check into sleeping meds. This just sucks. I wonder y it happens?

I hope it passes soon too?!?!

Yes it's awful. They put me on ambien and appears to be working. Thank heavens! Thought I was going to go crazy after the 3 rd night of not sleeping. Lol. Call you pcp!!

  8. Thank you so much! I have not increased the amount I am eating for a week. Do not know my signals yet. Going to increase my next meal and try 1/4 cup...scary!

Well no wonder your starving. Haha eat girl. Well probably when you actually fill your pouch you will start to be able to pick up in your fullness-signs.

I'm on "purée" also, but I do throw some shrimp and soft cheeses in there seems to hold more weight. The baby bell cheese's are amazing. Lol. And a great snack

  9. 2 weeks post op tomorrow. Feel awesome and am not on any pain meds. Feel 100%. All wounds are healing up great. Only issues am having is head hunger. No feelings of being full at all. Sometimes get a bit frustrated about that as not satisfied. Eating about 2 oz pureed until soft food intro on the 18th at my one month follow up. How much is everyone else eating at this point?

I eat until my back tells me I'm done. My back will get a pain when I'm just at that point. But about 1/4 cup is what I can get down comfortably in one sitting. Hope that helps.

  10. Ambien and ativan alone did not work for me' date=' next came a mixture of both together still does not work. Trazadone does not work. I inherited my aunts horrible insomnia.

Well thank heavens it did something because I was about to loose my mind. Lol.

Did you ever try elavil. It's an old antidepressant but it's good. Might ask your doctors about it.
