terry1118 got a reaction from Dorian in Post op question
Got a call from HR today. They moved my training out two weeks and will have someone else go in my place. I am sort of relieved. Now I can ease into things with the support of my manager and coworkers. They will cover me if I need to walk the back hall. And if I have to fart they will understand. :-)

I never tire of the stories, they keep me motivated. The negative stories are just as important as the positive ones. I think it's important to hear from people who have had complications and how they were dealt with, as it could happen to any one of us. Bad experiences brought on by poor choices are just as educational, too. All these things can help a person decide if weight loss surgery is right for them, and if it is, they know what to expect when things don't go as expected.
In all my research I had the hardest time finding veteran stories from people five or more years out. I wanted to know if they had continued success, health issues, unforseen problems, how they handled the life-style changes long-term, etc. Whether on not they'd do it again. Please include some of these stories in your book.
For my part, I would like to see a book made up ENTIRELY of personal stories, good and bad, inspiring and informative. Reading about other peoples experiences helped me to make an informative decision.

Obesity is a progressive, life-threatening disease that is the number two cause of preventable death in the U.S. When considering treatment options for any life-threatening disease, the question is not how easy or hard any given option is. The question is what is the most effective option with the greatest chance of successfully resolving the disease. Gastric bypass surgery is the single most effective treatment known to medical science for the treatment of obesity and more than 30 co-morbidities associated with obesity - by a very wide margin. Its success rate, safety and effectiveness are supported by more than 30 years of clinical studies involving tens of thousands of patients from all over the world. And for those who qualify, it is endorsed by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Institute of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, the World Health Organization, the U.S. food and Drug Administration, and many, many other highly respected universities and organizations.
The decision to have surgery, any surgery, is an intensely personal one that should involve careful consideration of many factors. Negative comments from those who are foolish enough, ignorant enough, or just plain egotistical enough to believe they have the knowledge and expertise to voice an opinion about something as complex as bariatric surgery is the height of absurdity. Most certainly not a factor worthy of consideration in making such an important, potentially life-changing decision.

In my workshop last week they discussed body image, how we perceive ourselves. They said many people who lose weight cannot get used to the idea of being smaller. In their mind they are always big. I am the opposite. In my mind I am small.
I didn't become heavy until the birth of my twins 27 yrs ago, when I was 26 yrs old. Before that my weight ranged from 110-120. Afterward, my weight went from 175 all the way up to 230. (I'm 5ft tall) In my mind I picture myself the way I used to be. It's always a total shock to catch a glimpse of my reflection in a window or mirror. I think 'Oh my God! That is NOT ME!' I am horrified! It really HURTS my mind to see me like that. And there have not been any photos taken of me in YEARS. I simply have not allowed it. If anything ever happens to me my family will have no photos of me at all. Losing weight for me will make my outside match my inside again. I look forward to welcoming 'me' back.

For 27 yrs I have passed Victoria's Secret by in the mall, secretly stealing longing looks in the windows as I passed by. I understand how wonderful it must make you feel to be able to wear such pretty things. What woman doesn't want to feel sexy? Congratulations!
Maybe I'll be shopping there before the holidays...

    Countdown now... :-)

Today is my 31st wedding anniversary! :-) I am mother to 26 yr old twin girls, one a marine biologist and the other a wildlife conservation biologist. I also have a 22 yr old son in the USMC. He's coming back from deployment soon so I'll get to see him for a few weeks this summer. No grandchildren yet... but when they come along I'll be healthy and energetic enough to enjoy them, thanks to rny. :-)

I hope everyone makes out okay. After reading about the troubles some of you are having I'm kind of glad I have no family around other than hubby and grown kids. My hubby's worried about me but going along with it and my daughters are supportive.
I am keeping my surgery from my husband's family (all are very opinionated). My mother-in-law comes over on occasion but never comes in the house (hubby calls her the "drive-by grandma"). I think hiding it will be no problem! She thinks my husband working out and eating healthy is a fad and always asks when he's going to eat 'normal' again. Lol

Just looking, not buying. Looking and imagining. For me it's a great incentive to keep me on track with the better choices I've been trying to make pre-surgery. My dietician wants me to implement a lot of the food choices and eating habits now that will be necessary after surgery. Higher Protein choices, fruits and veggies, smart Snacks, chewing slowly and thoroughly, sipping fluids all day, and Vitamins. I am doing all that but sometimes it's hard and looking at clothes inspires me.
I do not have unreasonable expectations. I want to be healthy, feel good, and enjoy life. If I can indulge in buying pretty things someday that is only a bonus, not a goal.

It's not a good feeling to have to buy things with the only criteria that THEY FIT. I want to buy something because I LOVE it and I want to pass on things that just FIT. Such freedom!
Plus size clothes have never fit me right being so short (4"11" or 5" - depends on who's measuring ). Everthing is too long and the waist and/or bust falls too low. There doesn't seem to be a true petite in plus. You start to pretend that you don't really care how you look (but inside you really do), you bury the embarrassment deep inside, and avoid social situations that most people dress up for. My daughters are both in serious relationships and may marry someday soon. I want a pretty mother-of-the-bride dress... and I don't want to look like a "weeble" in wedding photos.
So I look and daydream... and it renews my resolve to do this right.

To be more comfortable in the heat of summer and not DREAD it. And related to that - to be able to wear cool comfy summer things and enjoy beautiful weather. Maybe even fit in a bathing suit and go for a swim on a hot evening? THAT hasn't happened in literally YEARS!
And on then opposite end of the seasons - to button my coat and still be able to breathe. Maybe walk in a snowfall and not feel like I'm about to have a heart attack.
To live my life, not just endure it.

This is the best answer, if you don't mind sharing the info. Or you could say "That subject is personal. My weight is not your concern and it doesn't affect my ability to do my job." There are laws that protect your right to privacy in the workplace. You don't need to share personal info and you don't need to take anyone's criticism of non work-related issues.

I just finished all my requirements except for workshops. My program requires three educational workshops before surgery. The April ones were full so I'm scheduled for May 7, 14, and 21. My coordinator is going to try to get preapproval so the surgery can be scheduled imediately following the last workshop. My surgeon does surgery on Wed and Thurs so we're shooting for May 22 or 23. I'm crossing my fingers...
