Ur view please - Sleeve vs Bypass

hi, i am not 100% sure but I was given to understand that the hair falling out as well as ulcers in the mouth were a result of Vitamin deficiency. i was doing fine on the band, gradually loosing weight with no issues as mentioned until the slippage. that was when i was throwing up profusely and the weight started dropping rather rapidly. vitamin b12 seemed to address that.

Ur view please - Sleeve vs Bypass

btw, when i mentioned higher risk with the bypass, that is taking in consideration the lack of expertise with the procedure for obesity in Singapore.
  7. hi everyone, thanks for your input on this. the decision has been made for me. my surgeons felt that the bypass would be too drastic, and the risks too high for the benefits ... as my BMI is not as high as it was previously. i have the sleeve scheduled for 3 Dec. will be starting on the very low calorie diet - VLCD "optifast" to prepare for surgery 2 weeks before that. not sure how that is going to work out as i love my food too much. sigh. thanks everyone ... keep in touch.

  9. Hi there, I was banded in Feb 2003 and went from 133 kg to 60 kg. Unfortunately the band slipped and I had emergency surgery in May 2008. Living such a different life which included working out 5x / week, cutting out sugared drinks etc, I thought I could keep the weight off, but lo and behold ... it was not to be ... and I have since gained over 20kg = > 44 lbs. Have gone back to the surgeons and have been asked to consider either the sleeve or the gastric bypass. Would greatly appreciate any thoughts / inputs from all you experienced folks. Maybe if I give u a little info about me, it may be easier for you to give me your input ... I just turned 33 ... single with no kids. Am not attached now but would like to have a kid of my own someday. Had been diabetic and on insulin and medication since I was 16 but the lap band and weight loss helped me to be diabetes free. Had problems with menstrual cycles, but the weight loss fixed that too as it did with my fatty liver, sleep apnea, hypertension, chronic backaches etc. And going back to where I was isn't the most comforting thought. Any input would be great ... p/s: this is a cross post from the sleeve gastrectomy forum.

    Hello from Singapore

Thanks for your reply Kat. Actually ... it hasn't always been this way. I've made good progress ... working out getting hot n sweaty 5x /week for most of the journey. Actually even now, I try and burn at least 2000 calories per week thru cardiovascular work-outs 4x/wk ... jogging, swimming, cycling, elliptical walker ... Just that some where along the way, with the band slippage. I feel like I have lost it.
  12. I've had the band since 27 Feb 2003. I've done alright with it - went from 133 kg to about 47 kg and then back up to current 70 kg. Throughout this time, I've had 3 or 4 hospital admissions due to total blockage of the band, even with relatively small amounts of saline in the band. The last admission was in Sept 05. Then they realised that there was slight slippage. I've not had a fill since then and have steadily put on a fair bit of weight. Barium Study done in May 2005 shown grouse dilation of the proximal pouch as well as further slippage of the band. Am scheduled for revision surgery at the end of the month. Anybody had that? Can tell me more? By the way, I'm from Singapore. A tiny island out in South East Asia.
  13. Hi Everyone, I've been a lurker for a some weeks now and thought I should just saw hi. I will be 31 in 2 mths. Was banded at the 27 Feb 2003. Was 133 kg (292.6 lbs) then and went down all the way to 47.1 kg (103 lbs) by the end of August 2005. But that's only been because I was throwing up like anything and no food was going through. My band's not been filled since then and I am struggling at 70 kg (154 lbs). The band has slipped and the pouch is dilated. Have revisional surgery scheduled for the end of the month, but the surgeon doesn't seem so keen on it as I am somewhat of a bulimic. Sigh Feel rather down.
