Being back in your own bed is an amazing feeling! (Though I do wish my bed were adjustable like the hospital beds are... it would make reading in bed so much easier)

Well once u lose ur job immediately go online to dept of social services or health and human services, depending on your state and apply for insurance. You can do this the same day. Put unemployed due to layoff. No income and do not include your spouse if u have one. Include children if you have them and anyone living in home w you as a resident. Also, u need to include recent surgery requiring frequent follow ups affecting your quality of life.... Also throw in any other health conditions. Get a letter from your surgeon and any other dr u have explaining high need for quality of life and best survival post op.....
I use to work for state healthcare.....
    Good luck!

My surgery was Wednesday morning at 10:30 and it is now midnight on Thursday night. The pain and weakness has been much better today. The nursing staff has been incredible. I have never been through major surgery so had no idea what to expect. But this board has been super helpful! They tell me I should go home tomorrow around 4pm which I am pretty nervous about just because the safety net of the nurses is nice prayers too everyone in pre and post op. we are stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

In the hospital until tomorrow. I started Clear Liquids today! I've been walking as much as I can without falling to sleep. And I've farted today!! Wahoo!
Looking forward to being home in my own bed to snuggle my husband!

Hi Fab Febs! Band removal to RNY and hiatal hernia repaired 2/19/13. Surgery was 5 hours. Lots of scar tissue at port site. In Recovery, my doc discovered a big and fast growing hematoma. Back to the OR to stop bleeding. After another 2 hour surgery, I was done. Got toy room 11 hours after I went in to first OR. Hubby was very scared. 3 drains. very happy to have them out. painful diaphram spasms before they came out. I went home today!! Breathing exercises, walking, drinking fluids. Nice to be home! Passed gas for first time after surgery a few minutes ago! Progressing nicely!! Let the journey begin!!!

Just an update on my progress...I had my appointment to get weighed at my surgeons office today and I'm down 5.5 lbs. All that worrying for nothing! I'm at my lowest weight since I've started this whole process. I was also told today that when I lose another five lbs she will contact the surgeon to get my surgery date scheduled. I'm so close now! I just couldn't believe with the cheating I've been doing, that I actually still lost that much weight. I'm so happy and relieved. I think it's this med she put me on. It's suppose to control my insulin better, it's called Glucophage. I think. I'm not diabetic or anything but she says it helps with weight loss. I think it's working and I'm more determined to follow my liquid diet even more now to get quicker results and get that date scheduled!! I also scheduled an appointment with a therapist for next Thursday. I learned she recently went through WLS herself, so I think that's going to be very beneficial. Hope everyone else is doing well.

I made the mistake of doing some math today....
Post-op I am to drink 3-4 ounces an hour with specific instructions of no more than 4 ounces an hour for the first 2 months-check!.
    I'm supposed to drink 64 ounces a day-check!
I'm supposed to not drink 30 minutes before meals, take 30 minutes for each meal, and not drink for at least 30 minutes after meals-check!
Wait, huh? Apparently, in order to follow the rules and get my fluids in I can only sleep 3 1/2 hours a night???? This ought to be interesting!!!!!

Ok, so the pain has subsided i am more comfortable with myself, but I HATE Protein SHAKES! I feel unreasonably weak when I don't have my Protein but the taste is unbearable and I've tried so many different ones and nothing works! I have yet to throw up, but I started having bowl movements on Monday and again today,*claps hands* I am now down to 217lbs from 238 pre-op

Well I'm 6 days post op I have been lucky to not have much pain or nausea and food is going well I just can't do to much because I went into afib my heart is beating very elregular and my heart rate goes up with a little walking so I just walk till I start feeling it getting to fast so only a little at a time my cardiac dr says he will give it 6 weeks to go back to normal pattern before he does anything cause he said all the stress from surgery and weight to drop some Its crazy shortly after surgery about 6 nurses came rushing in my room and wanted to know if I was ok cause my heart rate dropped to 30 but I felt fine I told them after surgery before my heart rate dropped to 40s so that calmed down and got back to my normal Rate mid 50. So day after surgery everything is going good did 3 Walks got in bed to take a nap and that's when my heart started skipping and my heart rate was about 187 they finally got it settled in about 3 days of IV heart drips but still not beating normal but I feel ok just very aware cause I can fell the way it's beating I told my cardiac dr what did I do to myself cause I was feeling I did this to myself cause of the surgery and his words to me was this was one of the best things I had did for myself and not to worry cause the echocardiogram showed my heart had no damage to it at all from the problems I had had in 2000 blood clots in main artery and mild heart attach they put in 2 stents then

I agree with bbdoodle! I have not told many people about my surgery either. I am actually only 4 months out but have lost 75 lbs. I was on the smaller end of the spectrum for surgery as well. Its funny we say small.. I was 223 lbs and 5'1. So when I first began this journey and told some close friends what I wanted, they were upset and very negative. I decided at that point this was MY journey and no one else's.
When I get asked how I have lost weight I simply say that I watch calories and exercise. I am not lying. even tho I feel like it! I feel great and can't worry about what others are saying.
    Good luck to you!!

I only told a few people about my surgery, very close friends and co-workers and close family members. If someone compliments me on my weight loss I say "THANK YOU" if they ask how am I doing it I say "diet and exercise". The people that I did tell about the surgery were 110% supportive of my decision. You really don't owe anyone an explaination on your personal business. My fav. response to people who ask very private questions is... when they ask a uncomfortable question... you answer with "why do you ask" or "why do you want to know" your questions with a question puts them on the spot just like they made you uncomfortable. You keep private what YOU want to keep private. If someone is negavtive with your choices that is their problem not yours. This surgery works for YOU.. thats all that matters.

So depressed..pizza was sent to work and this sucks. I know I can't have all the bad stuff I've always had but I'm not dealing well with always beig left out. Thought after the surgery u can have some of the stuff u enjoy but a limited amount ad sparingly. Just sitting in the bathroom at work crying like I have some contagious disease.

I agree that one thing that still really does not get addressed is our "relationship" with food. It's like being told you have to break up with your best and oldest friend, who has seen you through the roughest times of you life. I had a halfway decent support group for this, but still, we really didn't address this head on. I've ordered a book that may be helpful. I'll let you know if I still think so once it comes.
