    I Have A Leak And I'm Scared.

Oh they didn't find my leak right after surgery. I came home after four days in the hospital and two blood transfusions after initially having rny. I passed all the leak tests at the hospital and X-rays to be released. I was home for a week and a pain in my left side just wouldn't leave. After a call to my np and another couple of nights of no sleep from the pain I finally had my husband take me to the er. All it took was a cat scan or MRI, I seriously don't remember which they did as they did them both so much after that. They found a big abscess and a bunch of liquid mixed up with fluids in a big ball on my left side that the doctors had never seen before. The doctor even did a case study on me because it was so strange. My big point is that I always encourage anyone who feels like something is wrong please please get checked out! If I wouldn't have gone that day who knows what would have happened. I had such a bad infection that it took weeks on antibiotics in the hospital to get better. Recovery even after the hospital was tough. Now being almost 10 months post op I am very happy with how far I've come! I always worry about others who are having complications though.
  5. Congratulations on your approval!! Best of luck with your surgery
  6. Congrats on your year!! You look great!

    Newbie

I agree with ajustice! Don't compare yourself to others and their journeys. Everyone has their own. Just stick with the plan the doctor gives you and take care of yourself along the way. Those stalls will be tough, but know you will get past them. Best of luck to you

    Scared! Here's My Story...

Also I must say that when I was in the hospital getting blood transfusion I also thought I was going to die. I think it's normal to start to feel like that when you go through what you are going through. It was very touch and go for me while I was in the hospital dealing with a leak, an infection, and a abscess. I think it's a great idea to seek help from a counselor, but please address the physical issues first.

    Scared! Here's My Story...

Being a patient that had complications I would absolutely be at the ER ASAP! Blood coming out if you is never a good thing. Plus if you feel something is wrong see a doctor! I'm sorry you are going through this but please please go see someone. Thank god I did, it saved my life. Please keep us updated if you can.

    I Have A Leak And I'm Scared.

So sorry to hear about your leakage. I had gastric bypass and had a leak early on. I know how scary that can be. I had the same thoughts about my leak about how do I know it's healing and not leaking again? All I can say is take everything slow with your recovery and that if you feel something is wrong call the doctor. My leak fortunately healed on its own. It took 16 extra days in the hospital, tons of antibiotics, a drainage tube, countless cat scans and X-rays, and TPN through a picc line with nothing by mouth for 14 days. Thanks to my entire surgical team and nursing staff (at a military hospital) who took the best care of me! I am now 9 months post op and feeling great. I hope everything with your recovery goes great! Do exactly what your surgeons say and don't push yourself!

    Here I Go????

Good luck on your recovery. Just remember walk walk walk to get rid of that gas.
  15. I freeze them until they are slushy. If you still can't add a lot of things you could try flavor extracts or also PB2 the powdered peanut butter substitute. Good luck to you
  16. Also I forgot to add the Premier Protein has 30g of protein in one shake
  17. The only protein that I found I can stomach is Premier Protein in chocolate flavor. In the beginning they had to be super cold for me to drink them. I would sit them in the freezer for maybe 30 mins before drinking. They are available at Costco and SAMs club. They come pre made in an 18pack. This time of year you can also heat it up in the microwave for a great tasting hot chocolate!
  18. I'm a March post op, but thought I'd answer your question. You will hit stalls along the way while your body adjusts to everything. Don't be worried about those they are normal. I as well have pcos. My cycle after surgery was really heavy and also long. I was told from my surgeon that it was more than likely from all the blood thinners that we are given in the hospital. Hope these help you a little. good luck with your recovery.
  19. I too am coming from the side of major complications. I did have the RNY done and not the sleeve, but personally my thoughts are complications could have happened either way. I was informed during my process with the surgeon about the possibility of complications. I went in eyes wide open. However like most people I never for the life of me thought I would be in the 1%. I do not feel badly toward anyone who told me about their surgery experience being great or reading so many amazing stories on here of success. It just so happened that it happened to me. I had a leak with severe infection. I was initially released from the hospital with a green light. Passed the leak tests and everything was looking up. One week exactly after my surgery I was back in the hospital for another 16 days. Luckily all I needed was a drain, a picc line, and TPN for two weeks. If anyone asks me I am truthful with them. I love what the surgery has done for me. I would go through it all again even knowing what I know. To me personally I don't feel that one persons opinion of the surgery swayed me either way. I took in all the facts and made the best decision for me.

    Best Hot Cocoa Protein Drink

I've used my Premier Protein in milk chocolate flavor as cocoa. I buy the premade shakes at costco and just heat it up in the microwave in a mug. Tastes great! Just like hot chocolate!

    December 2013 Post-Op

I had surgery in march. I spent most of my time napping, sipping, watching recorded tv shows, and napping more! Then due to complications from surgery I ended up back in the hospital one week after my surgery for 16 more days. I spent that time napping, walking when I could, and getting on this app! good luck to you! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
  23. If you continue to have pain I would encourage a visit to the ER. One week after I had surgery I was readmitted for an extreme infection and a leak. When I first called my nurse he said it was probably just residual pain from the surgery. I ignored it another couple days. My mistake. I ended up in the hospital for 16 days, on antibiotics for the entire time, a picc line for fluids and nutrition, plus it was touch and go for awhile if I was going to make it. Don't take the chance. Go to the er if you feel something isn't right. Hope you start feeling better soon.

    What To Pack...

Lip balm is a must! Plus many women start their period right after surgery so I would take some feminine care products just in case. Good luck on your surgery!
  25. Hi all! It's been a couple months since I've checked in. Still doing well. Not having too many problems with foods. Hamburger still bothers me a lot, but everything else is good. Weight loss is slowing, but still happy to have the loss. Down 87lbs now. Sw 229 on March 14, now at 142. Never thought I'd be at this weight. What a journey it has been. I was talking to my mom the other day about when I ended up in the hospital for complications from the surgery. I really think I blocked a lot of it out because she was telling me they thought it was touch and go for awhile. That my infection was so bad I was on iv antibiotics for over two weeks. I really didn't remember that. Glad I am past all that! Thankful for the success I've had since then! Happy holidays to everyone!
