  1. The purpose of this would be so that it shrinks the fat around your liver, so that it is easier for them during surgery when they have to work near it. Also the purpose of some pre-op diets is so that the dr. can see that you are really serious about wanting to lose weight. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

p.s. I had to do a pre-op diet for the insurance, in order for them to pay for it. :)

  2. Welcome to LBT. When I got ready for this I went to see my PCP, and she recommended a surgeon here in Houston. Then I called his office and they sent me to a seminar. From there they will let you know what to do. Every doctor does it a different way. Right now I am doing my 6 month pre-op diet (required by the insurance) and then I will get my band. I am sooooo..... ready. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.

  3. Welcome to LBT! I too am in the process of having my surgery done, except I had to do a 6-month pre-op diet first for my insurance. I wish you luck and keep us posted. Where are you having your surgery done? I am having mine done in Houston, and cannot wait!

  4. Hi Kelli, and welcome to LBT. I am in the process of doing all of my pre work for surgery. I started by talking to my Primary, and asking her for advice on who I should go with. Turns out she recommended a really good surgeon here in Houston. My insurance will pay for my surgery if I do a 6-month pre-op medically supervised diet. There are many steps to take to get ready for this surgery, but do what you need to and I know it will all be worth it in the end. Good luck to you and keep us posted.:clap2:

  5. Hi, I am also soon to have the lap-band done. Right now I am doing my 6 month pre-op diet. Just wanted to say that my reason for wanting the lap-band over the bypass is because I want to have more children and I did not want my intestines messed with. I know that people that choose to have the bypass are still able to have children, but that is not what I want. I have never had surgery before, and I don't want to start with the bypass. You have to do what is right for you. I just wanted you to be able to hear someone else's reason for choosing the lap-band, over the bypass. Good luck to you.:)

  6. Hi hon, I like you, are just going through all of the pre work for surgery. I went to the seminar back in July, and am having my psych and nutrition visits done at the end of this month. I am going to Dr. Davis in Houston, he is the one that they show on TLC on Big Medicine, so it is really cool to watch him on t.v. I am so ready for my surgery, but I have to do a 6 month pre-op diet for my insurance first, in order for them to pay for it. Good luck to you on your journey and keep us posted, and I will do the same.:clap2:

  7. I also have BCBS of Texas, and I am willing to do whatever they want me to, so that they will pay. I went through this whole process about a year ago with another doctor. They sent me through the psych and nutrition, all the paperwork, 2 sets of pre blood work, and classes. All before they even knew if my insurance would cover it. After about 3 months I had to call the insurance company myself and was told that I had a clause in my policy that would not cover surgery like this. :cry So my husband and I talked it over for a while and decided to self-pay. I am now going through a different surgeon and decided to let them see if my insurance would possibly cover it and it turns out that they will if I do a 6 month pre-op diet. I am so excited and cannot wait to be on the other side. I don't know anyone who has had the band, so it is so helpful to read all the stories on this website. :bounce:

  8. I have been reading this website for about a month, and I am totally addicted. I am in the beginning stages of my journey. I am having my surgery done in Houston, by Dr. Davis the one that is on Big Medicine and he is just awesome. I am 29 years old I am about 5'0 and weigh 252lbs. I am so miserable and am so ready for this. My question is that I have to do a six month pre-op diet and I just would like to know what that entails. What did some of you who had to do it eat or drink?:)
