  1. Jan 31st will be my 2 year surgiversary. I have lost a total of 130lbs and still working hard to lose more! I started out weighing 330 and as of this week I weight 199. My goal weight is 150 and it is soo much harder to lose now, but I started keeping a food journal and working out 6 days a week. The surgery has changed my life is so many ways. I am more confident in myself now. I can keep up with my 7 year old son and it feels good to be a good role model for him too. I no longer have diabetes. My high blood pressure still lingers around, but it is nowhere near what it use to be...before surgery I was on 12 different medications and now I am down to 3. It feels good to workout and be able to keep up with my skinny/healthy friends. I love being able to find clothes that fit when I go to any store instead of having to shop in plus size stores. I can cross my legs now and it is comfortable. The only problem I have with myself now is the saggy skin, but in comparison to all of the pros the skin is worth it!! When I get down to goal weight I am thinking of having plastics done. I am very blessed and glad that I had surgery and great job and good luck to everyone!! You can do it!!!

    Passing out?

You should def check your blood sugar and blood pressure after excercising because I get light headed too if it drops too low!

    If One More Person!

I was told something horrible when I had my gastric bypass! I am on Medicare and one of my "friends" said "I cannot believe that Medicare is covering an "elective surgery" so basically I am paying for your surgery because you are too lazy to get off your butt and excercise and keep the twinkes out of your mouth!" Needless to say I do NOT need friends like that and I explained to her the process we have to go through to even get approved for the surgery and how hard I tried to loose the weight on my own so many years. It was just a stab in the heart to hear that!!

Which protein shakes have you tried and how do you mix them? I mix mine with skim milk and splenda. Greek yogurt is also a great source of protein. If you can't tolerate protein supplements then be sure you eat lots of lean meat because you need 60-80grams of protein everyday to keep losing!

    a little embarrassed

I had this problem for awhile. My doctor told me to take 3 stool softners everyday and be sure to drink a lot of water. Make sure you are eating vegetables and foods high in fiber also. It may cause gas so have some gas x too.

Wow...that is wonderful that you have a free gym at your apartment. It is a lot easier for someone who has gad surgery to relate and help support. I am scared to death that I am going to gain everything back, but I know I have the will power to make good choices. Yes, please message me your contact info. It would be great to have live support. I also need to go to the support group at the hospital that they hold once a month.

I was going to Fitness Shakers in Greenville who concentrate on Zumba, but gyms become really expensive! I bought Zumba DVDs and Biggest Loser DVDs weights and mats and workout at least an hour at home. Some days I get out and walk around my neighborhood a few times that add up to about 2-3 miles. My husband and son do not excercise and their eating habits are horrible. I try to get them on board, but it does no good. I do have a friends that are trying to lose weight and they will workout with me and we keep food journals to see our cals in and cals out. We are trying our best. If you would like to contact me so we could workout together that would be fine. My friends did not have surgery so they don't understand everything like someone else who did have surgery would!!

Dr. Ross in Spartanburg did my RNY Gastric Bypass Jan 2011. I have lost 130lbs!! Right now I am at a stall, but I am working hard to get the weight loss going again. It is great to see other locals on the forum!
  10. Has anyone heard of or tried a supplement called Hoodia Gordonii? I am 2 years post op. I am scared to try new vitamins but was told that this one is all natural and aids in digestion and moods.

    Coffee Drinkers

I drink regular coffee every morning with 1 scoop of protein powder, splenda, and skim milk. I am 2 years out and started drinking coffee after 1 year. I find it to be a great way to get my morning protein in. It does cause you to go to the bathroom more so it is important to get more water intake! Every doctor is different with rules about coffee so it is best to ask your doctor and follow their advice. I do not recommend any soda...that includes diet soda!
  12. I was wondering if anyone has done the 5 day pouch test and if it works?

    5 Day Pouch Test

Yes I am 2 years out and someone suggested it to me to keep my pouch surgery size. I'm not sure if it works so I was wondering if anyone has tried it.

    5 Day Pouch Test

You basically start over with your post surgery foods. Example...first 2 days is all liquids, day 3 is soft proteins, etc....there is a website about it if you google it.
  16. I am 2 years post-op. I have lost a total of 130lbs. It does become harder after the 1st year to lose weight. I do 2 hours of working out 6 days a week and I still have stalls and even gain sometimes. I can tolerate eating just about any food now, but I always make protein the first thing. After the 1st year portion size becomes very important. Stay away from greasy food and foods that are high in carbs. I stick with protein shakes, greek yogurt, chicken breast, cheese sticks, and veggies. When I want to have a little snack I choose fruit or nuts. I hope this helps answer some questions. Use your surgery as a tool and enjoy your new body!
