    Pre op appointment

Ok so it was a bit of an anti climax but still good. I had blood pressure, weight, and MRSA tests done by a lovely nurse called Lorna. She really made me feel comfortable. The I had an ECG and some blood tests. And I was home in an hour! No photos, phew. No dietician, no talk about surgery. I have to say once I saw the surgeon last August it has pretty quick and to the point. No great discussions. I was expecting lots of information and guidence. Thank heavens for LapBandTalk and everyones willingness to share. Without it I think I would have been totally unprepared. I have followed the restricted food diet for 4 days and gained 1.5 lb. I cant dwell on that point because I feel like giving up. I have, hand on heart not eaten anything that wasnt weighed and on the list so how I gained weight I dont know. But I am now switching to the milk only diet for the next 18 days. That has surely got to work????? I am under no illusion that it will be easy but now I have had the pre op I feel like its the final countdown and I have to make the effort. I am so looking forward to life with the band.:thumbup::tt2::thumbup::smile2:

    Pre Op tomorrow!

Well it's finally happening, I have my pre op appointment tomorrow and my band date is the 22nd of March. I think I have to have some blood tests, an ECG and chat about the pre op diet. Then they take photos  not looking forward to that! I started the pre op diet on Monday (3 days early) just so I could get used to it and ask any questions on the day. This countdown is so exciting I can't wait to start posting my post op blog! I am so positive about it all. Anyway I will let you know how tomorrow goes and hopefully it will help any Uk banders see what sort of stuff you have to do.

  5. Ah Matilda I have a head cold too. Ive had it about 2 days and I'm fighting it off but I have 18 days till my op so it should be gone by then. Isn't it always the way, we have waited so long for the band and then get colds?

I have been doing my pre op diet for 3 days now (even though it's not supposed to start till tomorrow) and I am so tired and hungry! I am hoping that will get better as the days go on and of course it doesn't help that I feel under the weather. But all in all feeling positive for tomorrow.

How long do you have to wait for your results? What tests did you have and did they take photos?????

    1 year post-op

Wow Julie-Ann its been a while since I checked out your photos and I am amazed. You are a true inspiration and I agree with kcweir I love to look at your journey when I am feeling negative because it always reminds why I am doing this. I cant believe how tiny you are! You look fab. Well done. You have also answered my question about long term weight loss with the band. I think most of us have lost weight, its the keeping it off thats the trick. Its so nice to see you looking so well. Thanks for sharing, I hope you realise how many people you have helped. Take care x
  7. Hi Elleaitch,

Can you remember what tests you had before your band? I have my pre op on Thurs and am a little worried.

  8. I am having my pre op appointment on Thursday the 4th (2 more sleeps) and I am very nervous. I keep thinking what if they do a test and say I am not suitable? I think I will be more relaxed once it is over and done with and I can focus on my band date.

  9. Ah thanks ladies :rolleyes2: I am having a very positive day today. I havent been too hungry and it was still daylight when I got home from work so I am all fired up to go to the gym.

Now it's March I can actually say I am having my band before next pay day! Yippee.

    Hope you are all well?

Hi Elleaitch long time no hear. I just checked out your photos and you look amazing :w00t: hope you feel as good too? Over 70lb down, well done you. Any top tips for a newbie?

    Talk soon, take care x

  10. Good for you Matilda! I think you look lovely, but I know how you feel in yourself. I hate pictures of me. The one on my profile is quite a good one. They generally dont look so good. For me its the chins!

Hopefully we can amaze each other with the wonderful after pics very soon. I do intend to upload some more realistic pics so brace yourself lol.

  11. Hi jacquie

My surgery is 22nd of March. I thought you might like a friend whose date was close to yours so we will be at the same stage?

    take care

    Fiona

  12. Hi We are having our surgery on the same day, 22nd of March and I would love to share your journey. Hope we can help each other :-)

    Take care

    Fiona

  13. Hi Laurel, Its lovely to have someone to share your journey with, I hope we can help each other through this exciting change. I look forward to hearing your story. Are you on any diet kind of diet yet? I am day two of a four week pre op diet and its not easy but its surprising how much will power you can muster when you have such an important goal.

    Wish you well

    take care

    Feb 2009

    From the album: BEFORE

  15. Hi my name is Fiona. I am waiting for my first appointment after being referred by my GP for LapBanding. I have been told it is a long drawn out process to get banded on the NHS but I do not have the funds to have it done privately. I would have it done tomorrow if I could. Anyway I have joined this site to see the ups and downs of banding. Hopefully to get inspired and to decide if banding is right for me.:nervous

    Hi from the Uk

Hi long time no speak. I finally have a date for my op! Its the 22nd of March. I have a pre op appointment on the 4th of March. I am starting the pre op diet tomorrow (not looking forward to that) but I am hoping it will be easier to stick to as the alternative is that they wont do the surgery. I cant believe its finally time to join you all. At last I will have a story of my own. I am really surprised at what a lonely journey this is. I am really excited but no one else seems to feel the same way. I can talk to my partner about everything, he is my best friend but he doesnt get this at all. He is just worried about the op. My girlfriends nod in the right places but they dont realise what this means to me. I hope once its all over and its working everyone will be more encouraging. But I have enough enthusiasim for them all. I still havent found any other UK banders so the search is still on. If you are reading this and want to share your experience please contact me.:smile2::smile::smile2::smile::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2:
  17. Hi Everyone, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas?

At last January is coming to an end.

I am still waiting for a date for my op. They told me it would be done in 18 weeks and its been 16 so far. How do you all manage the holidays? I gained about 7lbs and I am working hard to get rid of them now but that has been the cycle of my life for so long now.

I have been watching the Biggest Loser season 7 on TV and it really worries me that one of the contestants has already had a gastric bypass! How did he get so big with a stomach the size of an egg??? Oh my gosh.

The other depressing thing is that I looked in the mirror at the gym and thought "who is that overweight person looking back?" I really dont recognise myself. I feel like I'm lost in there somewhere. And my surgeon was worried I would not be able to cope with looking slimmer ha ha.

Anyway I hope you are all well and doing fab. Cant wait to see more of your photos.

    Take care,

    Fiona x

  18. Hi, I loved reading your blog! Its so nice to have someone have a sense of humour about all this stuff. Hope its all going well. I am waiting for a date for my op but I am on a low carb diet until then. Fingers crossed I get banded before Christmas.

    Starting tomorrow

I have an appointment to discuss the liver shrinking diet on the 4th of Dec but I want to start now. Can you tell me if it is basically the Atkins diet? Is it just as simple as only eating 30g of carbs a day because I cant believe you can eat stuff like butter and mayonaise and so much bacon and cheese? I dont want to get it wrong. I am a complete carb junkie and I have just done my first week without them. I am nowhere near as hungry as I was but I have lost 3lb. I feel the same way you do about eating habits. Its so hard to look at a plate of food without carbs and not feel something is missing. Then you feel deprived and who wants to feel like that all the time? But I tell myself that its just the way I have been programmed and like a computer I just need re programming. Good luck for the 24th hope it all goes well. x

has anyone had a lapband on the NHS in kent

Hi I am on the waiting list for the op in Romford, Essex. From the first appointment at the hospital to now has been 18 months. I was referred by my GP, I saw a medical doctor for over a year while he tried diets and visits to the dietician and then finally he referred me to the surgeon. Since I saw the surgeon I waited 6 weeks to see if my funding had been approved then I was on the list. They tell me the op should be done within 18 weeks of getting funding so that works out to the middle of Feb 2010. I am hoping something comes up sooner and I have an appointment with the dietician to start the low carb liver shrinking pre op diet on the 4th of Dec. It seems like a long time but what is the alternative? It really has gone by quicker than I thought and I am really glad I stuck it out. I could not afford to have the op privately so there was no other choice for me. Just persevere and take all the help and advice offered and dont get downhearted. The first time went to the hospital they told me to stop eating biscuits and crisps!!! Seriously if it was that simple I would be thin by now. But I kept going back, never missing an appointment not matter how much I thought they were a waste of time, and here we are. Good luck, you will get there in the end

    Very Hopeful

They are very inspiring photos. I am waiting for my band too. When are you getting it done and where are you from?
  22. bubbalouieuk

    Yippee

I finally got my funding. I can't believe I got the funding. My letter arrived from the surgeon with a DVD to watch too. So I am on the list. I am so excited. I am thinking of my life after the op and thinking how things will change. I have to see a dietician and a psychiatrist but I dont think that will be a problem. I have been visiting this web site for over two years and watching everyone go through the process and seeing how they have changed. And now it's my turn I know that the friendship and support I get here will help me change my life for the better. Everyone here is so encouraging and supportive and so generous to share their down moments along with the highs. I hope I can do the same and maybe help someone in my position. I have always seen successful people who say "if I can do it anyone can" and thought "oh yeah easy for you to say, youre not me" but who knows maybe it will be me saying that in the future.

    Yippee

Ah thanks. I have an appointment on the 4th of Dec with the dietician to start my low carb liver shrinking diet. It's starting to seem real now!
  24. Youre welcome. I havent had the op yet. I just got approval so I'm on the waiting list. I'm told it should be done by Feb at the latest but I have signed up for any cancellations so fingers crossed it will be before Christmas. I have been watching you and Julie-Ann and your progress is such an encouragement. I am so looking forward to being able to put my before and after pics here. I am also looking forward to watching weight come off the scales and stay off. But I know it won't be easy. I have also read bloggs of people who have struggled and not lost much weight at all. Thats the scary part. One thing that impresses me about your blog is that you manage to remain positive when the scales go up! I know that will be a problem for me as I weigh my self everyday and my mood depends on what they say.

I will have to change that I know.

Thanks for your post and thanks for sharing your journey.

    take care x
