    Freaking out!

Mistakes can happen. My doctor asked me to pledge to avoid all alcohol and marijuana for a year because he called them "dis-inhibitors." [Love that term]. Hard for me because I am an investor [small] in a few wineries and have been known to tip back a few. Good luck. And be careful. Don't want to hurt yourself just because of a little fun.
  2. I agree with 4SLFLDS - liquids for me were easy. But soft food is much more difficult. Slow and easy - you'll be fine

    DIABETES

I'm 2 weeks from surgery and I am still needing some [modest amount and decreasing] insulin. Each result is unique/different I've been told. Good luck

    fitbit

I love my Nike Fuel Band [a competitor to FitBit]. It measures my calories burned, steps taken, and compares against my goals and friends goals [love the gamification of this]. Best $149 I have spent in a long time as it forces me to see my exercise and record it. JMHO Good luck.

    I Can't Wait Till....

I won't need to check my blood sugars first thing in the morning I won't need to go to the pharmacy each month for those seven pills and one inject-able script I won't dread visiting my regular doctor and getting the "you need to do better" speech I can swim with my friends without embarrassment of my Buddha belly
  6. Try [inexpensive] resistive elastic bands like these: http://www.yogadirect.com/product.asp?itemid=125&cvsfa=3000&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=313235&gclid=CPSb94ngwLQCFcaDQgodEDAA4w Much cheaper than a gym membership...

    December Dates

I am also a Dec surgery. The 18th at Stanford University. Doing well but needed a transfusion due to blood loss. Still lightheaded/lethargic due to the anemia. Good spirits other than mild depression after following my wife into Whole Foods and realizing how much life has changed... Wishing you all a happy holiday season

    cold

Same issue. bought flannel pants today - crazy.
  9. What was your last blood work like? After my surgery [18 Dec], my H&H was 6 & 18, hence I am constantly lightheaded/dizzy [should be 12-15 & 42-45]. I've had a few transfusions and am starting to climb back. If you have not had your bloodwork recently, this might be an area to check. Best of luck
  10. I've been playing with the same foods but different spices/spice combinations to keep my interest. Hope this helps - Happy New Year

    Liquid Diet

Keep busy and keep a log of exercise [i use a pedometer/Nike Fuel band] and fluid/caloric/protein intake [JMHO] - Treat it like it is most important job you have ever had. My mindset was that "I can't screw this up - or people will get hurt." Good Luck Teka
  12. I had my surgery on the 18th Dec in NorCal. My surgery went very well and I was really impressed with the care I received. Stanford University hospital is terrific. The team/people are the key attribute to that hospital, [certainly not the crowded, older rooms]. I did have complications including bleeding along the the staple line. I had nearly zero pain, but bloody BMs and vomiting. I needed a transfusion. [H&H at 6/17] I got out of the hospital on Saturday [H&H at 6/18]. And had to return to the hospital today for the second transfusion. I am home now and comfortable. [H&H 6.9/21.9]. I am eating well and sleeping well too. My wife has been awesome. Couldn't imagine trying to do this without her support. But we both were [still are] seriously scared/stressed. What about you? Any other RNY folks who needed transfusions? Care to share your stories/advice? Many thanks! Merry Christmas. GC>

    Pre-op liquid diets?

My two week liquid diet was pretty straightforward. I drank 160 calorie Protein shake at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. At 10.30AM and 3PM I ate a greek no fat yogurt. At 8.30PM I had a pudding [non-fat/no-sugar]. Total caloric intake per day was between 800-1000. With plenty of Water for hydration. I lost 12 lbs in 14 days. And while it was tough during the holiday season, I prioritized my health over all else and it turned out to be OK. I also was wearing a pedometer [Nike Fuel] and that gave me some gamification it terms of some exercise. [i challenged myself to walk more than 2 miles per day - and met my goal every day]. I wish you luck [and happy holidays]
