  1. This is completely normal. I had surgery in May and was angry, tired, emotional, stressed, etc. It got better for me when I started eating real foods again. Liquids and soft foods made me gag most of the time. I would say I started feeling kind of normal at 6 weeks. Focus on what you need to get done and what can wait. Don't be too hard on yourself. Celebrate when you achieve your protein and fluid amounts. It is HARD at first. I guess that is why not everyone is having the surgery. You can do it! I am 4.5 months out started at 237.5 lbs now I am 173.5. Still have days that are hard but it does get better.
  2. I was driving after 10 days. You have to be off pain meds and feel comfortable twisting left and right. I am an elementary teacher and took 3 weeks off. I was exhausted everyday after work. 5 weeks off would've been great.

Do a hobo dinner. Place a hamburger patty, carrots, onion, and potato in tin foil and cook. Google for an exact recipe

    Diarrhea after Surgery

I had the same problem. Turns out I am lactose intolerant. Switched to lactose free milk, no problems.

    Getting Tired Of...

The only meat protein that I can hold down is ground beef. Nine weeks out and fish comes right back up (with the lovely foamies). Any suggestions? Used to loved chicken and fish...

    Pill Swallowing

Get a pill crusher at the drug store. I had to mix pills in yogurt or something else for 8 weeks post op. they taste nasty, but doc insisted, and better than getting pills stuck.

    raw veggies

8weeks out. Haven't tried cucumbers, yet. The only way I can eat raw carrots is shaved. I take a potato peeler and peel the carrots into a small pile of shavings and put a little salad dressing on top. I have also tried romaine lettuce. I take about 1/4 of a small head of romaine, spray a little bit if olive oil on it and put on the grill. Keep turning until all sides have a little bit of a grill mark. Then, sprinkle some reduced fat crumbled blue cheese on top. Yummy

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

My dietician told me to try and get 1000 calories a day (I am female). That is supposed to keep you out of starvation mode. I am struggling to get 800-900 a day at 7 weeks out. I do notice that I drop faster the closer I get to 1000.
  11. I think that a drippy nose is my signal that I am full. Does anyone else get this when they eat or drink?
  12. I will be 6 weeks out and traveling. I was planning on having at least one protein drink a day, but a protein bar would be much easier when traveling. Does anyone know of a tasty protein bar that is soft (not crunchy, I am only 6 weeks out) and low in sugar?

    Crying..

Oh do I know what you are talking about! I am 4 weeks out and an emotional mess! I love my hubby, but can't stand him right now. He tries to be understanding, but he is driving me crazy! I try to remind myself that 90% of it is my crazy hormones. This is normal and we will get thru it! Take care of yourself.

    Stomach bug! Please help!

I know we cannot take anything that has ibprophen in it... I would call your doctors office and ask for suggestions. Hope you feel better soon!
  17. So I am about 4 weeks out from surgery and I am a complete basket case! I cry about everything. I have heard other people talk about this... When did you feel that you "turned the corner" and felt normal again?

    So emotional. Ugh!

Keeping a journal. It really is amazing how fast your body changes and how fast you forget things. Looking back in a journal helps me remember how far I have come in this experience. Just week to week comparing what you can eat and what your body can tolerate. It is amazing.

    So emotional. Ugh!

Seriously, before surgery I would describe myself as level headed. Now. Somebody looks at me funny and I am crying.

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

I had surgery on the 16. Getting my protien and Water in but nauseous a lot. Also very tired. Supposed to go back to work on Thursday, don't know if I will have enough energy... I had some bathroom issues, I took one Imodium ad and a couple spoonfuls of Greek yogurt, that helped.

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

Had surgery on the 16 th and have had many ups and downs. Not feeling great today, trying to think of what has improved since surgery. Last night I actually slept in my side! Very exciting since my back has been hurting a lot. Tried sleeping on my stomach but a dull pain kept me awake. But I will take the win of sleeping on my side!
