iPad App Issues
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to lolawaiting's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Mine's working right now. Are you using it portrait or landscape? I think there is an issue with landscape. Alex stated app will be updated soon. May need to uninstall/reinstall in meantime. -
Spicey food
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to jaymi2521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my dr visit last week I specifically asked about spicy. He said go for it but eat 1st bite and wait a few minutes just to be sure pouch is ok with it. i went straight to taco bell & ate a couple of bites of the meat and cheese from a soft taco. i used the hot sauce & no probs. i remember when i could eat 3 of those + the big full strength Pepsi. I couldn't even eat 1/3 of the meat & cheese only. felt weird but good to throw away the rest. I am 1 month out today. -
Nutritionist consult and surgery center denied
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to agirlofaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BCBS denies a lot of claims initially. I work for a hospital & we have a hell of a time getting our payments from them. Two things could be going on. The providers could be considered out of network or the claim is not coded in a way that will be covered. My nut & psych did not participate with my provider (Cigna) so those were out of pocket expenses for me. Call your doc's office & see if they have more information about the rejection. I hope it works out for you. -
Christmas miracle or?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to Lebim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might want to try My Fitness Pal or a similar online tracking program. I was trying to keep up with food on paper but I really had no idea what my true numbers were. MFP is easy and I've been surprised with my totals. It's kind of funny though since it keeps telling me that I don't eat enough - lol - which would true for a non RNY person. I'm 4 weeks out but have noticed if I eat more, I lose more. I'm mom2lucky on MFP. -
What Do U Miss The Most?

Here's the cream cheese sausage ball recipe. You can make just a few at a time and freeze the uncooked ones. I just started using MFP so I don't have the nutritional stats but I am 4 weeks out so any food with Protein is a good thing at this point. One fills me up - I made them kind of big. I have a WLS food/recipe board on Pinterest - Susie Sosnik. The food porn on that site is abundant! I can stare at the food and not have to eat it. It somehow satisfies cravings and eventually, I will be able to make and eat some of the healthier foods. Lots of great ideas there. Cream Cheese Saugsage Balls from the blog "Plain Chicken" 1 lb hot sausage, uncooked (could use lowfat JImmy Dean sausage but note that is comes in 12 oz size; I wanted it hot so used the full fat version) 8 oz cream cheese, softened (I used neufchatel) 1 1/4 cups Bisquick (i used the heart smart version. Could use Carbquick or Atkins) 4 oz cheddar cheese, shredded (i used 2%) Preheat oven to 400F. Mix all ingredients until well combined. (I use my KitchenAid mixer with the dough hook attachment) Roll into 1-inch balls. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until brown. Sausage balls may be frozen uncooked. If baking frozen, add a few minutes to the baking time. -
What Do U Miss The Most?

The chewing & size of bite got me big time. I tried to woof down a sausage ball & it got stuck. Owwy for an hour and a half. I made the balls with low fat everything & added cream cheese to keep them moist (Pinterest recipe altered). Next one, I used a fork to break down my bites and it went much better. -

What Do U Miss The Most?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to rpil003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am craving a salad & cucumbers but can't try those until February or so. Modified soft foods are the fare until the end of January. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels (not that I'm thin...yet!) -

I just couldn't bring myself to eat baby food. The fruit would be ok in a shake. My NUT gave me a recipe for "peach pillow" but haven't tried it yet. The meat - no way! Some programs state not to use baby food but mine was ok with it if you wanted to use it. -

mom2lucky (suznc) replied to Bward's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didn't finish thought.... Waited until day 5 to drive. I will be out 6 weeks because I have the vacation/sick time to cover but most folks seem to go back to work as early as 1 week. 2 weeks seems to be the average. -

My doc said same about not driving on meds. I never took anything for pain once I left recovery room but didn't feel like driving -

Powdered Peanut Butter without fat & sugar. There's also a flavor with chocolate already in it. Whole Foods has it as do online stores like Netrition or Amazon. It's a great additive to shakes or you just sprinkle or mix in with other food.

why keep your surgery private
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to Lovebone89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A good number of people have had it where I work (same hospital where I had surgery) and there have been varying results. I've told some but the grapevine is very active there so I don't really expect privacy. There's a reason soap operas are based in hospitals! Anyway those that have had WLS are continually scrutinized by others especially when in the cafeteria making food choices. People love to watch a train wreck & don't notice the folks who do well. I plan to be in the latter group. -
How soon did you go back?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to ready2smile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to take no less than 4 weeks but may take 5 - 6 because I can. I had 14 weeks of time saved up and am protected by FMLA. Dr. is happy I can take the time & so am I. My job is super stressful & I know I would forget to drink & eat. I'm on a schedule now so that it will be 2nd nature when I do go back in Jan. could have gone back sooner if I needed to but luckily I have the option to be out thru the holidays. -
Anyone drink pop on a daily?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to Amtlmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you've gone this far without it, why start back? Your body can start craving sugar again even though you are drinking diet. Some studies suggest body/brain doesn't discern between some artificial sweeteners vs sugar. Slippery slope imo. -
None were good to me. Even my bariatric surgeon admitted they were yucky & he no longer pushes that drink. If you can tolerate it, it's very good for you though.

Almost 8 weeks out and down 48 pounds

Head over to Nashua Nutrition's website if you want to try different brands without buying a tub. They sell samples for $1.95 each for lots of brands. Working my way thru the ones I ordered. No clear winner yet...lol. I have found Chike protein powder & that is my fav so far. Unjury did not agree with me but will try again to be sure. What works one day may not work the next. -

Is she overweight? Maybe she is jealous that you've chosen to take control of your weight. Hopefully she'll come around, she can't avoid you at Christmas. Maybe you can get a few minutes alone with her? There has to be something going on inside of her or else she wouldn't be distant & hostile. Best wishes - my sis & I are estranged at the moment & it is no fun. -

mom2lucky (suznc) replied to tlynn4love's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was a combo chat/ interview & 2 tests. One of the tests had eating disorder questions like do I think I'm fat, etc...duh. It appeared to be geared toward anorexia which clearly I did not have.
