  1. Thanks guys for the support. I just finally got up the courage to call the surgeon's office to reschedule and find out what I need to do to get this moving again. The woman handling my surgeon's schedule left early - I have to call tomorrow. I believe my insurance approval is good for 90 days after the original surgery date (Nov. 9). I'm thinking January since my son has some follow up tests in December to track his condition. I'm hoping that I don't have to take all my pre-op tests over again. But, I'll do what I have to do... Just wish I could get my head back in the game again.

    Thanks again,

  2. Hi Everyone,

I was scheduled for November 9th but had to cancel. My 3 year old son was hospitalized this past weekend. All last week he was rolling around the floor with unexplained abdominal pain. 4 ER visits, 2 Cat Scans, 2 ultra sounds and a 3 day hospital stay later, he was diagnosed with a hematoma on the right psoas muscle. The doctors thought it may have been something worse but he is better now. His condition needs to be checked by CAT scan every month for changes. I did manage to get to the pulmonologists office on Friday and he said my lungs were not in the greatest condition from bronchitis the week before last, and with all that was going on he suggested I cancel. I actually felt I should cancel as well. So, now I must reschedule. I stayed on the pre-op liquid diet for 7 days and lost 10 pounds! So, I'm having a hard time trying to get back into the mindset of having surgery. This past week was such a rollercoaster of emotions and lap band was so far removed from my mind. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

  3. I'm scheduled for Nov. 9th and last week (Thursday) woke up with sinus infection / bronchitis. Went to my regular doctor, he prescribed Zithromyecin (Z-Pac for short, it's an antibiotic, 5 day regiment) I'm MUCH better but I still have some residual, severe coughing. Went to pre-op at the hospital and they told me depending on how I look, feel and how my chest sounds on the day of surgery, that will determine if they need to postpone it - I really hope I'm OK by the 9th! If you are REALLY sick, I would suggest going to the doctor, you know, play it safe - I hope you'll be ok!!! Good luck!!

  4. Hi,

Yes, I'm a smoker and made an agreement with the surgeon I would quit for a month before surgery. Well, that was supposed to be Oct. 8th. I've been playing games with the patch, putting it on for 3 days, taking it off and smoking for a day or two. I really do not want to go under anesthesia actively smoking because it can cause complications.

  5. Hi Everyone,

I'm on day 4... Surgery is Nov. 9th. I'm allowed 1000 calories. 5 shakes, clear broth, SF Jello, SF ice pops, 2 cups of veggies, 2 tablespoons of FF dressing and all the "no calorie" drinks I want. Can't even get 5 shakes in. I'm starving people!!! Cheated with FF 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee this morning...

Everyone is doing soooo good! Good luck to all my fellow banders to be!

  6. I was just diagnosed (had the sleep study last nite) and Thank God I was diagnosed. If you have apnea you will need the C-PAP machine immediately after surgery to insure you are getting adequate oxygen since being under anesthesia can cause your airways to collapse (when you have apnea) while the breathing tube is down your throat breathing for you. I insisted on a sleep study after all my friends here on Lap Band Talk convinced me how important it was. This is a blessing in disguise - I know it doesn't feel like it right now - but it is. I'm scheduled for Nov. 9th and by the grace of GOD the sleep center and the pulmonologist squeezed me in. If I had to delay my surgey - I would have. Good luck, hope you get a quick appointment!

  7. I too am struggling with the smoking issue. My date is November 9 and the surgeon and I made an agreement that I would quite approx. 4 weeks prior to surgery. Well, like you, I quit for 3 days, smoke for 1 day, quit again etc... Today is day 2 of quitting for the 3rd time since October 15. Plus, I had the sleep study done last nite and the technician said "he's not a doctor" but he is pretty sure I have sleep apnea. (Stopped breathing almost every 15 seconds). So, I feel for you!!! I am going to request albuterol therapy before and after the operation just as kirajh did. Smoking can complicate anesthesia and that scares me the most. I know you can do it for this week!! Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!

  8. Hi Nessa,

Just quit today with the patch. Concerned about how the smoking will affect the anesthesia. I smoked about a pack a day. I'm not confident that I will be successful since I have tried to stop a few times before and the longest I lasted was about 3 weeks. I'm getting banded on Nov 9th - I hope I can remain an "inactive" smoker until then! Maybe even forever! Good luck to you on your journey to Bandland!
