    Fat Free Half & Half

Is Fat Free 1/2 & 1/2 acceptable after banding? Like for coffee, tea or cooking with it...Just Curious... Maria
  2. Hi Everyone, I'm still pre-op / without a surgery date. After the seminar I tried to implement some of the tactics of "how to eat" in my life now - pre band. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT CHEW MY food THOROUGHLY BEFORE I SWALLOW! Is this something that I will learn over time? I know once the band is in and filled - I physically CAN'T take big bites and not chew - is there any exercises to re-learn how to chew and eat slower? This is my BIGGEST fear - PB's and Slimes! Has anyone gotten hypnotized? Any suggestions? Thanks, Maria:help:

    Question for seasoned bansters

Great question! This question has been on my mind for soooo long, thanks for putting it into words. Let's hope to get some responses. Maria
  4. Hi Everyone, I was scheduled for November 9th but had to cancel. My 3 year old son was hospitalized this past weekend. All last week he was rolling around the floor with unexplained abdominal pain. 4 ER visits, 2 Cat Scans, 2 ultra sounds and a 3 day hospital stay later, he was diagnosed with a hematoma on the right psoas muscle. The doctors thought it may have been something worse but he is better now. His condition needs to be checked by CAT scan every month for changes. I did manage to get to the pulmonologists office on Friday and he said my lungs were not in the greatest condition from bronchitis the week before last, and with all that was going on he suggested I cancel. I actually felt I should cancel as well. So, now I must reschedule. I stayed on the pre-op liquid diet for 7 days and lost 10 pounds! So, I'm having a hard time trying to get back into the mindset of having surgery. This past week was such a rollercoaster of emotions and lap band was so far removed from my mind. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks guys! Maria

    Cancelled My Surgery

Thanks guys for the support. I just finally got up the courage to call the surgeon's office to reschedule and find out what I need to do to get this moving again. The woman handling my surgeon's schedule left early - I have to call tomorrow. I believe my insurance approval is good for 90 days after the original surgery date (Nov. 9). I'm thinking January since my son has some follow up tests in December to track his condition. I'm hoping that I don't have to take all my pre-op tests over again. But, I'll do what I have to do... Just wish I could get my head back in the game again. Thanks again, Maria

Surgery in less than a week and I'm sick

Hi Make 33, Absolutely, I'm definately all for being totally honest about how I'm feeling, all the meds I've taken etc.. even if it results in a postponement of surgery (Yikes, I'm praying I won't have to.) Thanks for your reply! Maria

Surgery in less than a week and I'm sick

I'm scheduled for Nov. 9th and last week (Thursday) woke up with sinus infection / bronchitis. Went to my regular doctor, he prescribed Zithromyecin (Z-Pac for short, it's an antibiotic, 5 day regiment) I'm MUCH better but I still have some residual, severe coughing. Went to pre-op at the hospital and they told me depending on how I look, feel and how my chest sounds on the day of surgery, that will determine if they need to postpone it - I really hope I'm OK by the 9th! If you are REALLY sick, I would suggest going to the doctor, you know, play it safe - I hope you'll be ok!!! Good luck!! Maria

    Any Tobacco Users?

Hi, Yes, I'm a smoker and made an agreement with the surgeon I would quit for a month before surgery. Well, that was supposed to be Oct. 8th. I've been playing games with the patch, putting it on for 3 days, taking it off and smoking for a day or two. I really do not want to go under anesthesia actively smoking because it can cause complications. Maria
  13. I'm on my pre-op now and my husband is completely indifferent and has no comment on anything I eat or don't eat. The other day I said something to him about "Lap-Band" and he said "What's that?" (He's foreign - but STILL!!!!) I've been talking about the Lap-Band for months!!!! I almost would invite some non-supportive words.... Maria
  14. Any info on this doctor - my friend is researching... Maria

  16. Hi Everyone, I'm on day 4... Surgery is Nov. 9th. I'm allowed 1000 calories. 5 shakes, clear broth, SF Jello, SF ice pops, 2 cups of veggies, 2 tablespoons of FF dressing and all the "no calorie" drinks I want. Can't even get 5 shakes in. I'm starving people!!! Cheated with FF 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee this morning... Everyone is doing soooo good! Good luck to all my fellow banders to be! Maria

    Need Doctor in new york

Dr.'s Fielding, Ren & Kurian at NYU - Top notch. I will be banded with Dr. Fielding on Nov. 9th. Maria
  18. I was just diagnosed (had the sleep study last nite) and Thank God I was diagnosed. If you have apnea you will need the C-PAP machine immediately after surgery to insure you are getting adequate oxygen since being under anesthesia can cause your airways to collapse (when you have apnea) while the breathing tube is down your throat breathing for you. I insisted on a sleep study after all my friends here on Lap Band Talk convinced me how important it was. This is a blessing in disguise - I know it doesn't feel like it right now - but it is. I'm scheduled for Nov. 9th and by the grace of GOD the sleep center and the pulmonologist squeezed me in. If I had to delay my surgey - I would have. Good luck, hope you get a quick appointment! Maria
  19. I'm in the 1 percentile - really didn't do much for me. I'm lying - maybe, just a little bit - I waited a little longer between cigs. My Mom quit completely with Chantix so I know it does work - it's definately worth a shot. Maria
  20. I too am struggling with the smoking issue. My date is November 9 and the surgeon and I made an agreement that I would quite approx. 4 weeks prior to surgery. Well, like you, I quit for 3 days, smoke for 1 day, quit again etc... Today is day 2 of quitting for the 3rd time since October 15. Plus, I had the sleep study done last nite and the technician said "he's not a doctor" but he is pretty sure I have sleep apnea. (Stopped breathing almost every 15 seconds). So, I feel for you!!! I am going to request albuterol therapy before and after the operation just as kirajh did. Smoking can complicate anesthesia and that scares me the most. I know you can do it for this week!! Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!:girl_hug: Maria

  22. Hi All, Quit smoking 3 days ago - being banded November 9th. Felt it was best since smoking can complicate anesthesia. Maria

  25. Hi, Just a comment: Check with your surgeon about what pain meds are acceptable with the band. My surgeons paperwork said no Ibruprophen (NSAIDS) - like, forever...But Tylenol was Ok. Maria
