What I Will Miss The Most

Cold. Beer... I love kicking back with beer... Friday nights around the neighborhood bonfire, watching football, tailgating before games and shows, chilling with family and friends. Yup, I will miss beer.

    I Was Approved Today Everyone!

What classes did you have to take? Every surgeon requires something different. I had 4 sessions with a nutrition psychologist, 2 meetings with a nutritionist, lots of lab work, AbG, urine screening, ultra sound, barium swallow, EKG, an informational session at the surgeons office, and a consult with the anesthetist. All before insurance clearance. I am even registered at the hospital already. Hoping to hear from insurance company this week!

    I Was Approved Today Everyone!

I'm in that same boat right now. It has been one week, one day since my decision visit with the surgeon. All my pre ops are finished. As soon as insurance clears, I can get my date!! Good luck to you. Hope we both get cleared soon!

    Scared

I feel the exact same way. My decision visit was last Friday. I made the decision for the RNY and I know it is the right one, but I'm afraid. Every part of my life will change. There are some parts of the change that scare me, some that excite me, and some flip sides every day. I can't speak from experience as I'm not there yet, but I have faith that all the stuff I'm afraid of... Like never sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner again... Will seem unimportant as I get healthy. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I'm hoping for a December surgery. I have told my fam this thanksgiving is my own "last supper." Good luck. Fears are normal with any major change in life. Keep the faith!

    Best Decision Ever Made

I am a teacher so I'm hoping for Christmas break. Surgeon said that would most likely work out fine. Fingers crossed! I was a vegetarian for many years. I was raised vegetarian and have gone back to it on occasion as an adult. Now i eat meat, but try to Stick with organic as much as possible. You have inspired me to start to add some stair climbing to my planning period at school. I'm trying to Do a lot now, so I will be able to get moving as quickly as possible after surgery. I was a member of a gym last year, but dropped it because I felt Guilty about picking my son up from pre school and then asking him to the gym nursery. Now I'm trying to do things together. We just got back from a 5.2 mile hike. Feeling excited for surgery! Mile

    Best Decision Ever Made

LongerCurlz, Thank you for sharing your story. It is great to see you have maintained weight loss for 12 years! I had my decision visit last Friday and now waiting for insurance clearance so I can get my date! I am amazed at your work out schedule. I must admit it seems unrealistic for me... And probably most folks. I am trying to get some walking in before work and then something more strenuous after work... Run, basketball, etc. as a single mom I am constantly balancing my time between work and my son. I'm trying to add a piece for just me, too. For exercise and health. Congrats on your fantastic journey. You look amazing! As a vegetarian, what Proteins do you eat? Beans, tofu?
  8. I am a single mom with a very active child. I can't wait to be able to keep up with him again! I'm alone in my house as far as having help on the daily. I live a plane ride away from all family, but I do not feel all alone. My mom, dad, and sister have been super supportive via phone calls and emails. I have family that will come down for the surgery and stay the first week. I don't think being alone will be an issue.

    Approval For Surgeon

Thank you. I am so excited for Friday. Good luck to you as well!
  10. Okay, I admit. I love beer. I know that soda and bubbly drinks will not sit well in the pouch post surgery. A question for you post op folks.... Will I ever be able to kick back and enjoy a frosty cold beer after the surgery? I know it may be a long while out, but I'm just wondering if that's something I will have to give up for good?

    Approval For Surgeon

I had to get a referral from PCP first, then all sorts of hoop jumping. I've had ultrasounds, psych evals, nutritional consult, barium swallow, tons of lab work, ABG, EKG, and now on Friday I meet with surgeon for Decision visit. Yeah! Hoping to have my date when I meet on Friday.

    Beer Post Op?

Thanks for the info guys. I'd just like to know that if I wanted to kick back and sip a cold beer, I could. I agree that once the lbs. start shedding, I probably won't want to do anything to hinder it.
  13. You have to be proud of with your amazing weight loss. You can get back to your goal! Stay the course. Life is always going to hora you curve balls... And when it does figure out how to knock it out of the park. It seems like you have had a stretch the downside, but focus on all the good you have... Including the 210 pounds you have lost!!

    Almost There!

I don't have a date yet, but in getting this far in the process I quit dieting for the first time in a long, long time. I guess I want to eat while I can before the month of liquid dieting comes. It's crazy, but I am so excited... Even for that part.

    Approval For Surgeon

When is your date? Congrats on getting your approval!!
  16. It's been reported. We don't need that here!
  17. I think I'll try the animated version. Thanks.

    Comfort Food

You can do it! Stay sipping and stay safe if you are in Sandy's path!
  19. I am not married, but I have a big family. Some of my family members are very encouraging and supportive... Others not so much. My uncle actually told me, he that I was stupid if I had this done. All I needed to do was eat right and exercise, surgery was a cop out. It made me feel like crap, but bottom lie I am doing this for me. I don't think anything about this surgery or the process had been or will be easy. I hope your husband will understand that some things you need to do for you. Good luck with everything!
  20. I feel like I just found the Cliff notes to WLS. Thanks for the details of surgery before and after. I need to book mark this one and come back to it. Thank you!

Not Trying To Be A Downer But?

Awesome question to post. I want to follow this thread and see what are folks feeling afterwards about themselves, their health, their life?
  23. Okay, I am feeling total wus, but I couldn't watch it. I am excited and nervous already so not sure if it'd make me feel better or more nervous! I swear I am usually not a wus, but surgery freaks me out a bit. Can't wait to be on the other side of surgery date!
