  1. You have to do what you think is right for you. If you think you can lose the weight and keep it off then that is definitely the way to go. But if you already have comorbidities then and you have trouble losing weight then maybe the benefits will outweigh the risks and pain of surgery.

For me, I know that if I didn't intervene, I was going to have diabetes. I had high blood sugar and they were just about to diagnose me with Diabetes when I decided to go with the sleeve.

It is normal to be nervous but you also want to be sure. Good luck with your decision and your weight loss journey.

  2. I use the Premier Protein shakes as well. I have found no other way for me to get 60 grams of Protein. I also have stalled I guess. I gained two pounds today of the 7 I had lost :( trying not to freak out. My hubby thinks I maybe it was the Water I drank yesterday. I finally got in 50 oz of water alone yesterday. I had previously been getting about 30 to 40 oz of water. I am slowly able to drink more. I keep telling myself that 5 pounds in 11 days is amazing!

  3. Hey girlie. It is normal to get down sometimes. Losing weight is a struggle. A daily struggle that we must face every day of our lives. It's ok to be positive 95% of the time and the other 5% say out loud what you feel and face every day. You are doing great :) just keep on going and one day you can look at the photograph and you may not recognize yourself.

Counseling is a great option. It is going to be difficult at first but in the long term they can help you process the things you are feeling and help you get to the root of any possible emotional eating that you may do and why. Also they can help with your body image as you lose weight and get closer to the weight you are comfortable with for maintenance.

    hang in there :D

  4. Bad: I am 10 days out and my darn pain got worse on my left side. doc says it is normal until the stitch in your abdomen dissolves. I wish it would freaking dissolve already bc the pain even with pain meds is unbearable the last couple of days.

Good: 5 pounds lost in 10 days. I had lost 7 but I think I am retaining Water bc I didn't get enough in yesterday so I gained 2 pounds. Already skipped a size from before my preop diet :) went from 3x to 1x tops.

Everything else so far I expected. Just wishing the pain would go away. I know it will pass though and looking forward to living my life lighter lol

    Good luck on your journey!

  5. Wow. I was at Forest Park on 6/25 as well!. I'm doing much better now. I had a really rough time the night and day after surgery. I was incredibly nauseous and they could not get it under control. I had zofran, phenegen, reglan, repeat. I couldn't walk because getting out of bed made me vomit (It actually was not as bad/painful as you would think). Finally the got me a stronger anti nausea drug (I think it started with a p and ended with a zole) and that worked starting Wednesday evening.

Since I am an out of town patient I was hospitalized two nights. I also stayed in a hotel near the hospital until Monday (first day Dr Nick required, the rest for my peace of mind) I had horrible incision site pain days 3-6 post op, but I called and they upped my hydrocodone which made all the difference in the world. I never had the gas pain people talk about though. Now, I am starting to feel way better.

Wow! Sorry to hear you Had a rough time of it. I had my hydrocodone dose upped too bc I was in pain. Sooo much pain. I sailed through the hospital and was discharged but the meds at hospital must have been a lot stronger lol bc when I got home on the dose they gave, it didn't touch the pain. But then again, I have a back injury for which I have taken hydrocodone for 10 years off and on so it might not work as well on me. Glad to hear you are feeling better! Where do you live? Hopefully travel was not too hard on you.

  6. I called them and they said stay hydrated and do breathing exercises as you said. The problem with the breathing ex they make me cough and this is painful!

Please do the exercises even if they make you cough and it hurts. I either wore my abdominal binder or put a pillow firmly up against my belly to cough. The coughing is good, it gets the gunk out of your lungs and help prevent pneumonia. I know it hurts but trust me, you don't want pneumonia either. Hang in there...it will get better.

  7. Hello and congratulations on your upcoming revision! I had my revision on 6/25 and so far so good! I have lost 7 pounds since surgery and that feels amazing! After my band surgery I lost 34 pounds in 7 months before my band failed. Also in my liquid phase post op I did not loose anything at all after band surgery ( still stumped) lol I wish you all the best and I know in my heart that this WILL work for me and I am sure it will work for you, so girl start making plans for the rest of your life :D

  8. Hey all

I'm currently going through the steps. I work nights shifts and have a 1 year old at home so eating on a set schedule is difficult. I was given the strict guidelines of how I have to eat after surgery. Can I get a little feedback from people going through this or have had the same issue?

I can't seem to control myself (as why I need help with surgery amyways). I feel like I am going to go back in one month and not shown any progress and be told I shouldn't get the surgery. If I could diet like this I wouldn't be looking for medical help in the first place.

    Please help :(. Discouraged

The difference with a preop diet and a regular diet we have done a thousand times is that you are doing it to shrink your liver to make your surgery easier and safer. Believe me when I say that I did not believe I could do the preop diet. But guess what? I did! And I lost ten pounds and my surgeon said surgery was easier because I did shrink my liver. The preop diet is not easy but we are here on the board to support you and it does get easier after 3 or 4 days. Hang in there and you can do this!!!

  9. Hi Kami63

I have noticed that we are loosing about the same rate. Thats awesome!!!! Are you eating puree foods already?

My doc told me 2 weeks full liquids before going into puree :-( still need 5 more days

    HW 263

    Preop 263

    SW 257

    9 days post op - 246.4

    I.m also 5"5

Good luck to all of us :-)

I have to wait 3 weeks for puréed :( so July 16th ...12 more days. I want food. I am not hungry though. It just feels a little weird to not have food. My surgeon is strict about his full liquids for three weeks. I will just have to wait lol...

    Congrats on your weightloss :)

  10. I am 9 days out and already can feel the difference! With the band I never felt full. ever. With the sleeve I can and do feel full. I am still in the swollen phase and only doing liquids but I am not hungry. A little head hunger crept in when I saw some avocado but I can't have that yet and I am ok with it. I know this will work for me. Definitely more to experience in my journey but I wanted to let you now I felt a difference right away and I don't have tat darn band pain in my chest anymore ... Yay :)

  11. On day 4 I would have probably cried if I had kids to tend to. Then going on a trip with them? Nope I am 9 days post op and still have trouble bending over to tie my shoes. But again everyone is different. Good luck in your journey and I sure hope you can convince him to be on board with you. If not now, maybe after he sees tat you are getting healthier.

  12. I'm sorry to hear that. I think men are not accustom to seeing us anything other than strong. If my man was acting like that I would tell him that he needs to shut up and be happy with the fact that I have done this to make my life longer and more healthy and that includes him. He can work through his funk by himself... But I also have made sure not to go too "woe is me either" but this is my second surgery and the pain is really getting me this time. He knows he not getting any for a while...lol

Hang in there. Life will get back to normal soon. I hope ;)

  13. The band is touted as reversible. That is one of the things that sold me. Well it might be but the damage it could do is not reversible. I had my revision from band to sleeve on 6/25. In the band's defense though, I was not able to gain a lot of weight. Although it was because I could not eat half the time lol.

Oh and with he band when it was working I never felt full. Or satisfied. I am 9 days postop and I hope this feeling stays but I get Full!!! Like thanksgiving day full. I have not had tat feeling in 6 years. That always bothered me.

All that being said, there are people who are successful with the band and go on and live healthy lives. Do your research and find a surgeon that you trust and they can help you decide on which option would be best for you. Good luck ith your decision. I am hoping the second time is the charm for me :)

  14. Checking In at one week postop.

HW 315 did diet and Nutrisystem

    Preop weight 275

    Surgery weight 265

    1 week postop 260

It looks like a lot of us are around the same weightloss :) oh and I am 5 '5". I had my first NSV. Went shopping with my family today and I have skipped a size! I was a 3x and today I was a 1x. Felt great! I was not expecting that. I have not been this size in years either ;)

Good luck to everyone else with their weightloss as well.

  15. I had Dr. Nick.

Sleeved June 19th. I am doing great but my left side hurts really bad. I was sleeved at victory in Plano. When I woke up in recovery I was told that multiple people were unable to be discharged so they didn't have a room for me. I had to stay in the recovery room the entire time. They gave us a $50 Visa card and $10 Starbucks card. They installed a tv by night time and brought a wonderful chair down for my husband. I was upset but impressed by their help.

I started my journey at 203

    Surgery dare 187

    Today 175.5

Oh my. I am sorry to ear of your experience. I was in recovery at victory after my EGD and I would not have wanted to stay there. At least they did try o accommodate you though. My left side still hurts really bad too. I hope that goes away soon! I am finally able to go for walks with my dog so I am getting better. Good luck and I hop your pain goes away soon too :)

  16. Kami, until yesterday, I had just been walking around inside the house. Yesterday evening, however, I went for a walk with the family. Nice weather for it! I plan to do the same thing today. Good luck to you!

Great! Walking outside is a nice change as long as we don't have a heat stroke lol good luck to you too!
