Hey all, I had my surgery 8/5/13 and the past couple days when I go to take my crushed up medicine I end up puking. If it's a weird texture or taste In my mouth I throw it up or gag and that def doesn't help with getting protein in. And what is it with everything smelling weird? Food smells make me gag, my bf gives me a kiss and I gag, I go outside and I wanna throw up cause everything smells terrible!! This is so frustrating!

Well it's usually after he eats when I can't kiss him. I can smell the food and makes me nauseous.

Thanks everyone, yeah it was a big wake up call. But going in figured out that I had the problems I wouldn't have known about if I just stayed at home. Working on liquids starting now, 5 am so I can get as much in as possible, and my mom is coming over to make sure I am on track and ok. Surgery went great but there's still a lot of work to be done, and it's a lot harder than I had anticipated. You can plan and research all you want but when it's your turn, it's always a different experience. Thanks guys for your support!

So I just got back from the emergency room cause I was getting dehydrated and had a fever of 101. Also have a UTI and a partially collapsed lung. Had the IV fluid in for about 3 hours. Feeling a ton better and gotta keep up with liquids.

It is so hard to get any protein/food in! I'm in puréed stage and I am still only getting 2-4 ounces in about 4 times a day and try to drink as much water I can throughout the day but it doesn't seem to be enough! Then my face gets all warm if I don't get water for a little bit. How do I get more in??

Same here with the pain meds. I don't start vitamins until I'm done with lovenox injections so a couple more days. Haven't had a problem with chugging, was always a sip taker. Just get so full then can't get water down. That part sucks

Anyone have issues with their lower left side of their back after surgery? It's been bothering me almost as much as my shoulder pain. Also have had random cramps in my legs if I am sitting too long. Maybe from the chair or? I'm a worrier and take everything to the extreme though so it could be I'm just being a baby about it I just don't want anything to go wrong, since everything has been ok so far. I do about 5 laps around the house a couple times a day is that enough walking a week post op? Freaking out here!

When are we supposed to drive again? I forgot to ask my doctor but I figured it would be after we were done taking pain meds?

I am just now getting the gas pain in my shoulder. OMG it is something else. I thought I was in the clear a week and a half after surgery but apparently last night it finally caught up. On another note: I'm trying scrambled eggs today! Hopefully this works out well since I've been terrified of starting to eat but am so done with broth.

Hi everyone! I'm a week post op now and I cannot wait for egg salad!!!!! Omggggg lol full liquids suck lol I just got back from dr appt and am down 15lbs and everything is going great! Start puréed food on Wednesday! Yay!

I'm just waiting for the day I can finally roll over and sleep comfortably! I took that for granted way too much lol

That's nice! Mine just gives me a list of things I can have for the next 5 weeks and then it's normal foods after that

That's nice and wow applesauce and oatmeal already? My dr said full liquids for a full week then puréed. I'd kill for some applesauce right now lol

Yeah same here. I'm getting in and out of bed by myself now and walking around the house 2 times every couple hours. Been taking in liquids or broths every 30 minutes and such but pain still in left side by ribs still sucks. How are you doing with pain so far?

So I got all my meds- everything is going okay now. 3 days out and 5 pounds down! Yay!!!

So I was released last night at 7. The Walgreens has been fighting filling my prescriptions and haven't had pain meds since 4pm yesterday. Had to contact insurance company and bf has to go to 2 Walgreens for my medicine so I can have my lovenox and pain meds. I am in so much pain right now. This can't be normal....

I had my surgery Monday and am just getting home. Dr said no complications and everything went ok. Even had drain tube out today. Just working on getting my fluids in. On full liquids now. Just lots of random pain especially when up and moving around.
