  1. Just curious... my BMI is 46 with one co-morb. I am doing my 6 month diet. If i were to somehow reach a 40.0 would I be disqualified? Would it look bad if I did lose some weight?
  2. Get better soon! Is this very common??
  3. I researched the band in 2006, but never followed through with it after my first consult, which I'm glad. I then wanted the sleeve. My younger sister was in the process of doing pre-op testing for the sleeve, so we researched it together. I wanted the sleeve because It seemed less serious than the bypass and I liked the fact that there was less malabsorption issues. My friend in college also got the sleeve and lost over 100 and told me it was the greatest thing she ever did. My sister is two weeks post-op from the sleeve and loves it BUT.... 1) Found out my insurance won't cover any weight loss procedure except gastric bypass 2) Found out most people who get the sleeve end up NOT losing as much weight as they hoped for 3) I figured if I'm going to have a weight loss surgery, I want the BEST one out there with the best long term results, etc. Now After much research, I wouldn't have any other procedure done besides bypass
  4. I'm pre-op and got stuck having to do the 6 month weigh-ins, which I'll complete in December and am hoping to have surgery before Christmas! I was able to do a lot of the pre-op testing (it was a lot) fairly quicker than average because I'm a student and have the summer off. Most days I feel like December will never get here quickly, on other days, I feel the time will fly. I just can't imagine getting any bigger (which has been difficult) between now and December. My sister just had the vertical sleeve surgery. We've always been obese together and centered our lives around food and eating out at new places. She's now down 28 lbs 3 weeks post-op and while I'm happy for her, I only wish it were my time too So who's excited and ready for December?
  5. Day 29 here! Congrats to us both. I notice I don't physically crave cigs anymore, but I mentally crave them during stressful times. We can do it!
  6. I'm nervous for mine! What could possibly go wrong that the cardiologist would not give clearance? Would Anything like tachycardia/bradycardia or a minor heart murmor prevent clearance?
  7. Keep us updated. Hang in there.
  8. Glad I quit...they are $10.75 in NY and $11 in NYC!
  9. Tylenol is fine to take.
  10. It's veryyyyy hard, but do-able once you set your mind to quitting. There's many options to choose from...gum, patch, chantix, zyban, etc. Good luck!
  11. You can use whoever you want. They all have the same training for the most part. Use someone in network!
  12. I have UHC. My Psychiatrist I have been seeing for a few years wrote the letter for me. It was one visit and paid nothing. He is in network, so that's why no fee.
  13. Ohhhhh pizza hut...I'm gunna miss that!
  14. Hi I'm not expected to have surgery till December, but I recently quit smoking specifically for the surgery. My surgeon requires no smoking for six weeks prior to surgery, but I thought I'd get a head start. My surgeon always checks for nicotine levels in lab tests, so I knew I couldn't lie lol. I found Chantix to be very helpful.
  15. I wouldn't do it. Your having a major, major surgery that's being done. We only get one body in this lifetime. Why put ourselves at risk for future complications? It's tempting, yes, but we can do it
  16. I plan on not drinking ever again after the surgery because there is such a high rate of alcohol abuse in RnY patients. Alcohol is absorbed differently after the surgery. You get drunk quicker with a small amount and sober up quicker. Many patients find this enjoyable, and keep repeating the process. I mean, I could see myself having a small amt if wine on a special event like my wedding day lol, but I expect to avoid alcohol at all costs.
