  1. Thanks and yes I am the one who nearly died I have lost 62 lbs since my surgery on dec 3 however I am still not feeling right just yet and it is upsetting that it seems as if everyone is doing great in this group and I'm the only one who has had complications

I felt like that when I had to come home with a catheter, I know that is mild compared to the complication that you had. I just went home the day I was discharged and cried because my doctor kept saying, I dont understand what is going on with your bladder not waking up, your so young. I have only been feeling great since I was put on an antibiotic....before that it felt like someone ran me over several times. On another note, a 62 pound weight loss is something to be proud of, Congrats!

  2. I think it might be the milk you are drinking maybe? I can't drink milk very well without getting some diarrhea. Just a thought?

Have you tried Almond or Coconut unsweetened milk? It is lactose free and not too bad tasting either. I was lactose intolerant prior to surgery and I had the same symptoms (diarrhea). Silk milk isnt too bad either...I like the almond and coconut taste more.

  3. So I tried some new foods today since I don't work tomorrow. Cottage cheese, lowfat, went well. Although I could only eat a little since it filled me up fast. I tried Sugar Free Chocolate pudding, only a couple bites, never again, that was a horrible experience even though it tasted good :) I tried some clam chowder blended which I have always loved, but 2 tbls in I was sick, felt like I had to vomit but couldn't, so suffered for about 30 minutes. My supper I went easy on myself since I didnt want diarrhea again, so stuck to the Protein Shake with a little Decaf coffee and ice, was good :)

What foods have you tried that have not been good?

So far I can tolerate vanilla and Caramel SF pudding, SF Jello, I have put two tablespoons of Peanut Butter in my shakes and blended it, I can only tolerate soy, almond, and coconut milk thats unsweetened, CarbMaster yogurt from Kroger and thats all for now. You may have to watch out for some of the white or creamy type Soups because of the carbs and sugar...I cant handle anything that is creamy...clear broth soups without the noodles is that way I go. I would try some cheese and scrambled egg, egg salad (fat free mayo, pickles, and boiled egg) pureed together, you can do the same thing with tuna. This following website is awesome..I have learned so much from it.

  4. I miscalculated a day, forgot which day I was on but was only the 4 days. I believe it was mainly due to the weekend surgery. The drain is a bulb, called the JP drain, it drains stuff from I side the abdomen. If I had an incision leak then it would fill up quickly or the color of the Fluid that was drank. (From what I was told)

:-) Dec 15th New me and life begins ;-)

My doctor put in a wick drain and she pulled it the day I was discharged...it didnt feel the greatest when she pullled it out.

  5. So I ate my first food today. I had a scrambled egg. After I ate half the egg I started to belch so I stopped eating. Is that the sign to stop? I know we don't get full feelings yet.

    Lisa :-) surgery date: Dec. 4th, 2012

My nutritionist said that I would only be able to tolerate half of an egg for awhile. Belching is a sign that you are full since we dont have any nerves to tell us to stop :) Im so happy for you :) Congrats!

  6. that is way too much food. his pouch was resized to hold only 2 ounces. that is why it is very important for us to measure our food. he definitely can stretch his pouch. also. up until 4-6 weeks the nerve endings in his stomach is not working yet that is why he doesn't feel full and again important to measure his foods.

Also not to scare you but I had a friend that had a sleeve, he drank a diet sprite as soon as he got home, it expanded his stomach, tore his suture lines, and caused a massive leak. He almost died and was in ICU for a month on IV antibiotics. So it is vitally important to measure and follow post op rules, it could be a life or death situation.

  7. I was on Clear Liquids for two days then they switched me to full liquids until the 20th which is a total of 7 days, then I will be on pureed for 3-5 weeks, next I will be on regular diet (scary to think about). I can only have 2 ounces of food an hour and that is it....eg. pudding, shakes, yogurt but I can tolerate about 6oz clear liquids in an hour before I start belching. Your body will let you know what it can tolerate.

  8. Just wanted to update everyone on my journey. I am 24 yo and had surgery on the 5th. Weight the day of surgery was 270 and last i checked on Sat i was 252. Almost 20 lbs! So exciting since i didnt really expect it to come off that quick. I have a 10month old daughter who is now home with me again after the surgery and she is definately helping me get my walking in. Taking care of her full time while my husband is at wok has not hurt at all but it does wear me out as my lil girl is 20lbs herself. I just keep telling myself, "i was carrying 20lbs on my body and now im just carrying it on my hip." this journey has been rough but well worth it and i am finding the positives.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I dont write much on here but i love reading them all. Im glad to know im not alone when it comes to the smaller things like bowel movements and monthly cycles.

Praying for you all as you continue your journies! :)

    Congrats!

  9. Question... when can we eat chicken? I am off liquids and was wondering if baked chicken would be ok as long as I chewed it super good.

    Lisa :-) surgery date: Dec. 4th, 2012

Are you on the pureed diet? My doc said if chewing was involved...dont even think about it...but I bought a Ninja to do all my chewing for me. My best friend had the RNY and she still cant eat chicken but that was the first I have ever heard of someone not tolerating a lean meat postop but it will be up to your body.

  10. Well I was sent home with that catheter and started having horrible bladder pains last night. I decided to sleep on it since I wasnt running a fever. This morning I woke up and I could barely walk. I just got home from the doctor. They took that darn catheter out and I had such a raging infection from the catheter. So they put me on Bactrim DS (do you think they order liquid, no and they arent the easiest pills to crush but I did my best) and Pyridium for the bladder pain. Im down to my surgery weight....304. I had gained 11 pounds in Fluid after surgery and now Im back to the starting line. I have lost 64lbs total since I started this journey. Hopefully this Pyridium will kick in and I can go for a walk...it just hurts so bad to even take baby steps ughh.

  11. That is awesome!! I'm about 10 pounds down since my surgery, so that makes me happy. And thanks for letting me know about the back pain!! At least then if it happens, I'll know what it is and I won't freak out!! I think I'm on the edge of being constipated. Lol. So, if things don't get moving so to speak by tonight, then I might try something else. Not sure what would be safe though, you have any ideas?

My doctor had me use Milk of Magnesia....I got the cherry flavor cuz that stuff is nasty by itself. It wasnt too bad....best thing about it was the back pain went completely away.
