  1. Has anyone tried Miralax? I still haven't gone and it's been 8 days....

    Surgery 9/24/12 344 10/1/12 323.8

I just got it yesterday, I will be trying it today. I have been using colace and am up to three pils a day and still only go every ther day and very dry and painful.

  2. Is it eating the wrong foods? Soda? Pouch stretching? Everyone I know personally that's had the surgery hasten successful long term but you always hear about people gaining it back. I want to be sure that doesn't happen...so keep wondering what happens with those that regain? My surgery was the RNY with Fobi pouch which from what I understood means there is a band on my stoma that will prevent my pouch from being able to stretch. I would love to hear others input on this and have others ad the fobi pouch? It was an option my surgeon offers and I went with it.

Well I cannot speak for others, I can only share my experience. I had RNY 8 years ago and lost a total of 170lbs. Kept that off until my 6th year and then slowly began gaining which led to a 53lb gain. At this point when i saw my surgeon he ran a series of tests and they discovered my anastomosis was dilated. Which means my pouch which was not stretched was emptying out quicker causing me to be hungry sooner. Although this is partially to blame i know that half of it was choices i had made but i definitely knew not all of it was my fault. Now i consider myself a success because i did manage to keep 117lbs off which in itself is amazing to me! Not everything is people not following the rules in my case it was a mechanical situation that can happen to anyone over time. Just imagine this tool we are given no longer works as it originally should and we no longer have the same restrictions how would some of us do? It is easy to say oh u did not follow the rules but that was not entirely the case with me. That is why I chose to have a revision to correct my tool and continue to enjoy the great health this surgery has afforded me. Good luck on your journey and as long as you follow your doctors rules u should be a okay!

  3. My better half and myself just came from the Giant grocery store ' date=' we needed to get a few things and some new foods I can try , I know suck it up right ! But eating healthy food cost so much more than eating junk we got three bags of groceries for a total of 55.00 yikes !!![/quote']

I agree, I try to stick with whatever veggie is on sale for the week and the same for fish or any other Protein. The good thing is with us a little goes a long way! I definitely freeze a lot or find myself eating the same thing all week so it does not go bad.

  4. After seeing the dietitian yesterday and following her instructions of eating high density Protein with crunchy fruits and veggies I am amazed at how well that satisfies me all day. I'm very thankful my doctor does not require a liquid pre-op diet but I do need to be as healthy as possible. I am also to take 5 minute walks 6 times a day. I was able to easily sneak away from my desk and walk around the bottom floor of our parking garage 3 times today. I made a '5 Minute Walk' playlist with songs around 5 minutes long. One day at a time...anxiously awaiting a surgery date. I'm very thankful for this support! Guess I'm just kind of chatty today...thanks for listening :)

That is great, baby steps will get is to goal! Well done!

  5. Yesterday my paperwork was submitted to my insurance and I got word that they want me to complete 6 month of supervised weight loss. We submitted 7 months of me seeing a nutritionist/ dietician along with monthly weigh in and food logs. So now I have to do 6 more months because a doctor didn't do my weigh in. I feel like giving up. Sorry for the rant.

Do not give up that is what they want you to do, if you want this, fight for it as it is so worth it! There are many members here that have had to do the six months also and it will be over before you know it!

  6. I'm nearing my surgery date (next month est.) and I have one thing that has been stuck in the back of my mind. at my heaviest I was 428 about 2 years ago. Now I weigh 359. My concern is that I dont want to weigh less than 200 lbs. I dont want to be that skinny. has anyone else ever thought about this or am I just crazy?

Okay obviously I am not a guy, Lol and I am probably not the normal female either but when I had this surgery eight years ago I weighed 383 and at my lowest 213. I was happy there, never wanted to go down anymore. It would of been nice to get down just to see the 199 on the scale but I felt great at that weight and the only thing really saggy are my arms. I have always had big legs so my thinking was if they didn't look saggy at 213 that is where I wanted to be. Just my two cents! Oh and for the record your not crazy, I am sure there are people out there that feel the same.

  7. I have been a Diet Dr Pepper drinker since I was 16 years old. I was able to stay away from it for the 1st 6 or 7 weeks after RNY gastric bypass surgery. I am now 11 weeks post op -35lbs and find myself having about half of a 12oz bottle of diet dr pepper most days. I feel badly that I cant seem to give it up. I have been getting in my required Water intake of at least 60 ounces and my required Protein of at least 60 grams daily. I have been exercising and the inches are melting off from my efforts. I have researched online and some sites say that the carbonation stretches the pouch and some say there is no proof that the carbonation does stretch the pouch. Any one have any advice on how to deal with this vice of mine? Any suggestions from my weightloss family would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

All I can say is my surgeon allows diet soda but it must be flat, which is why I have not had one in eight years, LOL. It is a major debate among different centers/surgeons as to if it stretches or just causes bloating. I hope you can find someway to drop it, as soda in general is not very good for you even if it is diet. Good luck!

  8. Feeling pretty good .Thanks to all of you who post my questions are usually answered before I ask . Does anyone experience pain when Water pass through pouch. I am trying to keep up with fluids not doing so well

    Spiritually Guided

Try drinking it room temperature or for some it works ice cold. Also make sure you are sipping and not gulping. It is hard but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. I drink mine out of a coffee mug which forves me to sip.

  9. Ladies' date=' are u having normal regular periods after gastric bypas? I am 6 weeks post op, and I got my period the day after surgery and haven't seen it since. Anyone else experience this?

Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk[/quote']

I have been getting it every 15 to 17 days since a month before surgery and now after the same. My PCP said it was stress and now my body is adjusting.

I giess what I am trying to say is I need ideas for the pureed stage :) thanks foe help![/quote']

Cottage cheese w/ sf Jello or yogurt

    Black or red bean Soups

Sf pudding w/ Protein added in

    White bean Soup pureed

    Mashed potato w/ cheese

  11. Absolutely ridiculous, I have not had a soda in eight years or do I plan to, but what is next, limiting our red meat, limiting ice cream for kids, candy. How can they even realistically keep tabs on this?!? What happened to home of the free?!? This is not going to stopor even help people from making poor choices or being overweight, obese etc... Why don't they invest in educating people instead of this ridiculous attempt to control people!
