The Gastric Bypass Vegan
Lots of good ideas, Mama! I eat animal products but also love vegan food. I do about 3 meals/week of it.

Alcohol?
Is it really worth the sugar/empty calories & the possible effects on your healing tummy? Is it really worth being part of the growing statistics of post-rny alcoholics? It metabolizes quickly, meaning it goes straight to your head, then goes away pretty quickly, setting you up for a potential vicious cycle. I'm not against alcohol in general. I drank a LOT of wine pre-surgery (EVERY night with dinner), but I vow to never touch it again. To me, it's just not worth the risk. I sacrificed many things to have this surgery, Why sabotage myself? Just my 2 cents...

Smoothie
I was told to keep away from raspberries & blackberries for a while. The seeds (and there are MANY) can irritate your pouch or even get stuck in one of the tiny pockets created by the staples...

Protien Shake Question
I was mixing up a super high (45 gms) protein shake every morning, but yesterday my nutritionist told me that your body can't really use more than 30 gms at a time. I just did a little research and she appears to be correct.

Smoothie
I would stick to making them at home. That way you know exactly what's in it. I have tons of "recipes" in my head for smoothies if you tell me what your favorite flavor combinations are...

Full Length Mirror
I just recently bought one for the first time in several years. Even though I am still 60-70 # from my ideal weight, I'm finding it a great motivator. I can SEE the difference in my body weekly. It's also helping me decide which clothes to get rid of. I am NOT hanging on to the big clothes this time...

Cocktail Party Contribution
I need to attend a work-related cocktail party tomorrow night. I'm not concerned about the booze part---drinking alcohol just doesn't fit in with my diet plan, so I will stick with my Water..but I wanted to bring something that I could eat (who knows what other stuff other people will bring), and I'm on the soft food stage. So, I pureed a can of cannellini Beans with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh thyme, garlic, and ground walnuts. Everyone else can spread it on crackers, but I will eat a few tablespoons, as is...Yum...put it in the fridge so the flavors can meld, then I will bring it to the party at room temperature tomorrow.

Scallops! Good For Soft Stage
Well, I don't really use recipes...I just made it up. In addition to being a teacher, I sometimes work as a private chef for a family that eats ONLY healthy food. Here's what I did: I pureed fresh garden peas (you could use frozen!) with a little sesame oil and low sodium soy sauce. I added home made chicken stock until it became the texture I wanted. Then I pureed a mango with lime juice, cilantro, Vietnamese chili garlic sauce, and rice wine vinegar. I seared the scallops in peanut oil. Be sure they are dry when you put them in the pan, and don't crowd them, otherwise they will steam and you won't get good caramelization. Frozen scallops do not sear well because they are full of Water...Plate it up and there you go. Even people who have not had WLS will love it...that is assuming they are lovers of seafood...

Scallops! Good For Soft Stage
At Jenneliza: I ate 3 med. scallops, and they went down so well. The smooth textures of the pea & fruit helped, too. And Ladydee, yes they are pricy inland, but I buy them right off the boat where I live, so I don't pay anywhere near $1/per scallop. They are basically low fat pure protein and so quick to prepare---the ultimate healthy fast food for me. They are also delicious raw. I make a "cocktail" with the diced scallops, avocado, watermelon, and pickled ginger....YuM!
