Introducing New Foods To The Pouch.
BBdoodle replied to Ocean0527's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I know right away as soon as I swallow. I was not chewing my food enough and I would know immediately that I did not chew enough as soon as I swallowed. It just does not sit right in your stomach and you just feel sick. As someone stated earlier... try new things at home, a little bit at a time. My doctor suggests trying new things 1 at a time/day and chew-chew-chew-chew !!! -
What All Do I Need For Right After My Surgery?
BBdoodle replied to Cheryl Barfoot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctors office gave a list of items to bring to the hospital and what you should have when you get home. Chap Stick was my BFF in the hospital because you will not feel like eating or drinking and my lips get so dry. I wore very comfortable stretchie pants and big t-shirt to and from the hospital. I did my shopping before surgery for the protein, skim milk, ice pops, water, soup, yogurt etc etc. -
LOL... you sound like me... I'm not a big ice cream person either and have a craving for it about 2x a year. I have become addicted to the sugar free, fat free ice pops that are like 12 calories each. I purchase the skinny cow ice cream sandwiches for my BF who likes them, I had one last week (9 wks post op) with no problems what so ever !!!!

Having Problems Eating
BBdoodle replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My transformation back to food was very gradual, I am 9 wks post op.and still on a modified diet. I have been trying different things but still afraid of certian foods. I still do wet, soft foods and also LOVE MY ICE POPS TOO !!!!! My diet plan was liquids first week after surgery, (soup, yogurt, etc.) 3 wks after surgery was wet soft foods = tuna, mashed potatoes, etc. and 6 wks is when you can start adding 1 item per day of regular fat free, surgar free food. I have tried different things .... some foods go down better than others for sure. My doctor is on the cautious side and likes to take baby steps. I still have my soup every day and eating yogurt etc. etc. its because I like it. When I do try new foods I make sure I chew-chew-chew-chew.... my problem was that I was not chewing my food well and I would have the "foamies" (spilt up very foamy syliva for hours) and basicaly be very uncomfortable and sick then all of a sudden it passes. I think the different foods is all depending on the individual, if I at something and it hurt I did not eat it. I am still grossed out by food at times and then at times I am hurngry... I will eat a few spoon fulls of food and be really full quick !!! -
I had surgery on a Monday and went home on a Wednesday late afternoon. My doctor removed my drain right before I left the hospital. My fluid was less each day but still present when he removed the drain.... which by the way hurt like hell.

I have spells of throwing up and now finally believe that it is due to me not chewing my food well enough. Sometimes I don't even think to count when chewing and just do a few chews and swallow, my dr. suggests chewing a minimun of 30 times... since I don't like to vomit, I have been trying to chew minimum 50 times !!! and slow down. I'm glad you are felling better and had everything checked out !!!

Hi - I have Horizon BCBS / PPO plan and did not have any problems what so ever getting approval. My BMI was 36 which was under the 40 required but I also had high B/P which allowed me to have the surgery. The only out of pocket expense was a $250.00 co/payment for the 3 day hospital stay.

Sleeve Gastrectomy?
BBdoodle replied to hajones5891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ther reason why I went with the RNY is because you loose the most weight with RNY procedure, which is much more than the sleeve or the banding. I wanted the best bang for my buck !!! -
I would call your doctor and let him have a look at it.... it sounds like you may have a infection.

I took lots of baby sips of water and to get the gas moving and out you need to WALK, WALK, WALK. I had surgery on a Monday and the gas did not want to leave until like Thrusday - LOL.

I did not tell everyone, just the few close people I work with, my family and a few BFF's. I got total support from everyone, all said congrats and good luck on your journey - it was a nice feeling

I'm nine wks out and tried watermelon last week and had a difficult time getting it down for some reason, it felt like it was caught in my throat. I would check with your doctor first. Maybe make a smoothie with it, but it is high in sugar !!!

I hear you.... I was a big diet soda lover and of course you can't drink any carbonated beverages after RNY. I do miss it but feel so good not being dependent upon the soda fixt anymore.

My approval took about 2 1/2 weeks to get. This all was thru my surgeons office, they have a insurance coordinator that you work with to get all your ducks in a row (tests, phys. eval., nutritional eval. etc. etc). Once you get all your requirements then they submit to insurance. At least that is the way my docotors office works it. I also had to have a letter from my regular doctor agreeing with this surgery, from what I understand this is a biggie - insurance companies like that your doctors concur on this surgery.

Cooking For Your Family Before And After Surgery
BBdoodle replied to AnnMarie49930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live with my two dogs to there is no problem here - LOL But, when my BF comes over i usually cook for him, I have no problem cooking the foods he likes and me having my food. Now that i am on a modified regular food diet I cannot each much at all so I do have tiny tastes of what he is eating if its not too fattening, in general I am just not hungry so I can cook and not eat with no problem. Of course I taste but tasting and eating are two different things -
Help...i Temptation Got The Best Of Me Today :(
BBdoodle replied to Lolipop86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel bad about eating something its not worth you getting upset over. I was on no type of diet what so ever before surgery, just the day before my dr. told me to eat light and a laxative at 6 pm. After surgery like "mamiof3kids" said you will not be able to eat like that and if you try you will get really sick. You are not hungry at all !!!! -
If I eat something that I did not chew really-really-really well I get pain and I spit up "foamy syliva" for a hour or so and just feel like crap. I guess its my body's way of telling me that I need to chew, chew, chew. Once the "foamies" lasted for 12 hours and it was when I ate a very small piece of chicken but did not chew it well - arrrggghhh that was the worst. I found that I can eat lots of different things as long as I chew it like crazy but it also has to be low in fat.

Help To Quit Smoking?
BBdoodle replied to AnnMarie49930's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was suppose to stop smoking 2 wks before surgery, I had to even sign a contract with my dr. !!!! I did sign the contract but was way too nervous to quit so I smoked up until the day before surgery. My last smoke was about 11pm on a Sunday and surgery was on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. I have no problem quiting its just that I enjoy smoking When I left the hopsital after 3 days I did not even have a craving for a smoke, of course now that I am feeling 110% I do have a craving every now and then.
