    Head Cold= No Surgery?

I always load up on Vitamin C crystals and Eccinacea the day I start feeling sick. I can typically ward off a full-blown cold and not get any worse than the first day. You have 7 days. You can beat this!!

Hey everyone, I thought I'd pass along this blog I follow. It's called The World According to Eggface. It's filled with lots of great tips, recipes, and giveaways. The blogger had RNY in 2006 and refers to it as having her "guts rearranged," which I love! Haha. She actually lives here in Temecula, CA where I live. You can find it on Facebook, Twitter (@eggface), Pinterest, etc. Anyway, since we are all starting our new lives this month, I wanted to pass along her latest giveaway. It's a Nike gym bag filled with lots of useful stuff. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/09/eggface-back-to-bariatric-basics.html

Word of caution about stocking up pre-op....A LOT of people I talked to had changes to their taste buds after surgery. Many did not like anything sweet and had to stick to the chicken soup protein. I went the safe, but a little more expensive right now, and bought some single-serve sample packs so I could try different flavors and brands. By far, my favorite-tasting brand has been Syntrax Nectar. They have the traditional creamy flavors, but also great ones for use with water like lemon tea and fuzzy navel. I can literally sip protein all day using this stuff! I have heard isopure is good too, so I may check out GNC too. :-)

    Not Enough Protein

DL, could you please send me the list as well? Thanks!! mariacnewman@gmail.com
  8. Hi Molly and welcome!! I, too, am having my surgery on September 10. I'm also on the West Coast and having my surgery in San Diego. You've asked some great questions, so thanks! And thanks to everyone for the helpful replies! I have heard the gas pain is the worst, but should significantly subside in a few days.

    Fresh Meat!

Welcome Kelly! I, too, am having my surgery on September 10 @ 10am (PST). We have a September Members thread going and so far, there are three more scheduled for the same day. Everyone on this app is very supportive. Are you on a pre-op diet?

Welcome and congrats on taking the plunge! Everyone here is great and very supportive. We have a September Members thread going too with all of us having surgery in September. I think we have two other members having surgery the same day as you. Mine is on September 10. What's been hard about your pre-op diet? Is it liquid only?

    Shopping List.

Great ideas! I have a week to go, but I started eating with a cocktail fork and baby spoon so I'd be used to it.
  12. Yeah, congrats!! I bought a couple sample packs so I could try different flavors. However, several people have said their taste buds changed after surgery, so I'm not buying any large tubs until after my surgery. So far, I have liked some of the Nectar ones the best. The Unjury chicken soup is pretty good too. If you want to go the less expensive route, Costco sells Premier shakes that are around 30g protein and taste good too.

    Newbie From Michigan

Welcome! My surgery's not until September 10, but rest assured we'll be with you every step of the way. The overwhelming majority of people I have talked with say it's the best thing they've ever done. I've gone through a range of emotions including being scared and now I'm just excited to get the show on the road! Let us know how your appointment with the surgeon goes!
  14. I have a Mirena IUD. I love it! I had it put in at 8 weeks after my second son was born in February of last year, and I've had no issues at all. I, too, was crampy for about a day afterwards, but now, cannot even tell I have one. I certainly do not have a period every month and when I do, it's for maybe a day, a very light day. Every doctor is different, but mine still suggests a second form of birth control after surgery for everyone due to increased fertility. I am going in a week after my surgery so I can get a prescription for the pill. I don't want to take any chances of getting pregnant during the first 18 months after surgery. Also, if you're having RNY, then you have to take vitamins for life, so adding a tiny pill as a precaution is no big deal.

    Finally!

Waiting for insurance approval is very difficult, but hang it there! I'll keep you and everyone involved in making the decision in my prayers.

Hey Lisa, we're having our surgeries in the same day. Do you have to do a pre op diet?

Welcome to all the new September members! It’s going to be a great month. I started my 2-week pre-op diet today in preparation for my surgery on September 10 @ 10am. I’m allowed three shakes and a healthy, balanced meal (eaten at once or spread out during the day). I also kicked caffeine out of my life last week and only had a headache for one day. I’ve been doing a half regular and half decaf blend for 6+ months and it made it so MUCH easier to give it up completely. I still like the taste of coffee, so I had a mocha protein shake this morning. Delish! I already spoke with the anesthesia department and have my pre-op appointment/labs this Wednesday. Everything is coming together and I still can’t believe it…..someone pinch me!
  21. Thank you very much! I'm so happy that I will still be able to eat good, gourmet-ish meals that are WLS-friendly. My husband and boys are not fans of scallops, but I could probably substitute shrimp in this one very easily and make the whole family happy!
