    About Me

Hi, I've posted a few times on here but this time I'll talk about me. I'm 30 years old, I have been married almost 11 years, we have 2 boys, ages 9 and 6. I've been overweight my whole life. I grew up with my mom telling me about my aunt who was overweight but slimmed down once she started her period. So my mon would let me eat and drink pretty much whatever I wanted. I have a friend who can recall when I'd go to her house as a 9/10 year old and I'd have a bag (big bag) of Doritos. She'd worry about my health and I'd explain that it's just baby fat, I'll lose it when I get my period. Well, I never lost the baby fat. I did weight watchers several times with my mom, I did the Atkins diet, I wanted to go on phen-phen but it was too late, I tried several other things, but nothing worked for me. I needed to change my whole lifestyle. As a teenager I was a size 14/16 and when I got my drivers license at 16 I was 205, I thought I was huge. I got married when I was 20, and I wore a size 18 and I weighed 220. My husband thought my little pudge, as he called it, was cute. When I was pregnant with our first son I gained about 55 lbs, I never lost it. I joined a gym and lost 15 lbs. But it was hard to take that time away from my baby. I quit going to the gym. I joined weight watchers again, I lost 20 lbs., but it got to be too expensive so I quit. In 2005 I got pregnant with my youngest, I weighed 285. 9 months later I weighed 274, I only craved healthy good when I was pregnant with him. But after he was born the weight came back on quickly. About 4-5 years ago I had to get my tonsils removed. When they weighed me in I was 316 lbs. I was devastated. I cried to my husband, who tried to console me by telling me that my body fat was the reason we weren't intimate anymore. I was even more devastated.(don't worry he's really not a giant jackass) That was when I decided that I had to do something and I seriously considered gastric bypass. I went to a couple of seminars and my husband went with me. We discussed it for some time and I had even gone through the psych eval, but in the end I decided that I'd try weight watchers again. I tried my hardest, I lost 27 lbs. I was doing great. I had a couple of weeks where I didn't lose and I quit. I went to curves, did good and enjoyed it. But we couldn't afford it so I quit again. I'm sick of the yo-yoing. I went to a seminar 3 hours away from my house on April 2 . I filled out the paperwork and they called within 2 days to schedule an appointment, I had my first true appointment on the 11th, then on the 13th I had my EKG, my blood test, and my chest x-ray. I went back on the 20th for a group nutrition meeting. I have appointments scheduled for my one on one nutrition meeting, my follow up with the surgeon and my last appointment before surgery (provided everything goes well) and I scheduled my psych eval for the first part of June. My husband is supportive but nervous for my mental health afterwards. Since I'm the one who cooks and prepares the meals he worries that I'll get really depressed due to mental hunger. I understand his very valid concern. Any advise is really appreciated. Thank you all for your support and I look forward to making friends on here and helping each other through tough times. And I'm sorry I am so type/talkative

    About Me

I'm having doubts lately about having surgery. There is nobody that is talking me out of it except myself. Since march I have lost over 20 lbs on my own. I'm doing it for myself, by myself. Know the surgery would work but I don't know if I'm at the point in my life where I can go through with it. With these doubts I will not undergo surgery. I will however finish all my preop requirements so that if I change my mind in the near future I'll be able to get it done. I wish you all the best. Thank you for being there for me, and for each other.

    Help!

Make sure that you check how much it'll cost. Luckily my insurance covered mine with just a copayment of $25.00, the psychologist I went to charges $500 for the psych evaluation.
  8. Hi, as some of you probably know I haven't had surgery yet. I'm not even scheduled yet. I'm wondering what has been the hardest for you to get used to. Is it drinking slowly, not drinking while eating, not liking food you used to love? Things like that. What have you had to really adjust in your life? Other than portion size, cause that's a given

    Friday Weigh-In!

Congratulations on the great week everyone!
  10. I actually considered it. But I spoke with my surgeon about it and I've read up on it. I know you have higher chances of leaks with the sleeve. My surgeon recommended rny, so did my primary physician.

    Friday Weigh-In!

Remember everyone, if you lose 1 pound, that's 4 sticks of butter gone. That's good. 1 pound a week is still 52 pounds in a year.

    Friday Weigh-In!

Congrats to everyone on their progress and for those of you who didn't see a loss just remember that your body's weight can fluctuate daily and muscle weighs more than fat. Also just be proud of yourself for taking this step to a healthier you and don't compare yourself to others, we all lose at different rates. Good luck!

    Sexual Dysfunction

Just a note for you. My husband has recently lost a good 20lbs and gone from a 38/40 to a 34/36. Not only has his 'appetite' increased so has the size of something. So I don't personally think you're going to have to worry about that. And sorry we're not men answering your question.

    About Me

So he apologized to me last night. He told me not to read into what he said and to totally ignore it. He was hungry and pissed and spoke without using his brain to filter his mouth. Last night we sat down and discussed finances and he explained what was going on in the world of finances this summer. He told me that if I want this surgery he understands and he's not telling me that I cannot get it done. He did ask me if I could put if off until after August, which is fine with me. I am willing to do that. I don't want to screw us financially, especially during the summer when the we all have time off. Next month my car license fee is due, I have 100$ just in doctor visits, not including the gas to get to them twice. Unfortunately my insurance dictates that I cannot go to the doctor for more than one in thing in a day. So that means that I cannot have a nutrition appointment the same day as a pre-op. I was planning on going down there for my psych eval but decided against it because I would have had to make 3 more trips down there. My husband is a good man, he helps out a lot with laundry, dishes and the kids. He just gets burned out, like we all do. Some days he snaps, like we all do. He's supportive of my decision though he wishes I could do this without surgery, but so do I. I just needed to vent the other day. I was hurt and he knew it. He didn't say anything else cruel. I love my husband and my kids, that's why I want this surgery. I want to be around for them. I want to feel healthier and I believe that comes with weightloss, not just a little weightloss but a lot of weightloss. I'm sorry for everyone dealing with dificult situaltions. I know that we all have financial trouble and we all probably have to deal with unsupportive people. Thank you all for your support and kindness. I really enjoy this forum and the people on it.

    About Me

Thank you for your kind words Amy. We are lucky enough to have insurance so all we pay are copays but the surgeon I'm going to is 179 miles from our house so it's the gas that also puts a financial strain on us. But I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't know if I really want to have surgery now. I've lost 20 lbs since march 9. I'm drinking a protein shake for breakfast and I've cut out sugars and lowered my calorie and fat intake along with portion size. I want to give myself another chance but I don't want to screw up my chances for surgery. I know I'd love it if I could lose the weight and keep it off on my own without surgical help. I just worry that I'll put it back on without surgery. Or worse, what if I put weight back on after surgery. Ugh! I'm having doubts

    Almost 3 Weeks Post Op

I like the unjury chicken soup too. I get sick of the sweet protein all the time. I am not a fan of any other unjury flavor though. I need to go to gnc or look online for different flavors.
