  1. Hello Cassie and 2bthinagn, It's good to see some posts. I hope you can join us more often. Not many write in here yet but, hopefully it will get jumpin soon. I'm in the process of revision from Lapband to Bypass. I've done all the steps that I needed to do now just waiting to hear from the bariatric group if they think I'm a good candidate and when I can meet the surgeon.

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days

Nexium is really great. My insurance however stopped paying for it which made me have to switch. It was the first one that worked and worked well after trying 3 before it so I really hated to have to change. I was using one after that but, it wasn't working that well but, then I also had a terribly prolasp and ended up with the band coming out. While in the hospital with the NGTube, that doctor gave me Protonix and man that one works really well. I'm still taking it today because it has a generic form which my insurance allows. I'm sending you a private message about the antacids.....take a peek.

I totally agree with you on the salads and supplements. I want to get more of my Protein in it's regular protein form vs shakes but of course on the liquid phase I have to find one I like. I think folks think the less calories they take in the quicker they lose but, your body slows way down if you take in too few. But like you said to each their own. Sorry about how your parents have been...I hear you though. I did notice when I had my band and at my lowest weight with it that some people did treat me differently. it's like what I mentioned before, I'm sure some "friends" will disappear. My mom is ok support wise, she's struggles with her weight all the time but, isn't as overweight as she once was years ago. Anyway, when I told her she just said "whatever makes you happy" not sure that's enthusiasm but at least she didn't knock it. All I really care about is that hubby is on board. I haven't told my son yet....sometimes kids (well he's 21) don't see the weight in their moms although he struggled with his weight too. He started a low carb way of eating back in August of 2010 and has lost 65 pounds on his own. I totally supported him in that and we barely have carbs like bread in the house. I buy low carb, high Fiber wraps and Pasta and we all use it. But....I think he'll support me on it once I tell him. he knows how much my weight bothers me. Now my in-laws...that's a different story. don't think I'll be telling them for quite some time. They live 5.5 hours away so we see them every three months or so or for me every 6 months. Did you get the gerd/heartburn from the band? Man mine got so bad. I'm still taking meds for it. I thought that would go away with the RNY surgery. Do you still have it?

    Cheeseburger Stew

This does sound good I make a taco soup thats really tasty too. I never figured out the protein level of it though but, it has to be quite a bit because it has two kinds of beans, lean hamburger or turkey. If I can figure out the protein I'll post it.

    100+ To Loose

That's great that your hubby is so supportive! It truly is nice to have your best friend helping you along, that I know. My husband isn't banded nor has he had WLS but, he does need to lose weight and when I'm ON he's ON, if you know what I mean. He does better managing his eating when I'm managing mine. When I got my lapband he actually lost about 30 pounds just eating less because instead of two steaks, we cooked one with me taking a piece so he was eating less. Worked! Now you know for sure....to make sure your husband gets that upper GI. I should have demanded mine sooner than I did. I never should have actually had the revision surgery but, of course back then no one told me that so many bandsters that had to have revision ended up losing it in the end. Oh wellsky! Are you talking about the OTHER lapband group that formed after so much trouble was on the LBTTalk website or the Obesity dot com one? I don't care for the format on OB at all...they don't have catagories like this one. I think Alex and his crew (assuming he has one) have done an awesome job organizing these sites for sure. It's makes it easier to navigate. I do hope more will come but, it's fun chatting with you I can't remember my name on the LBT site it's been a while since I've been there. I was a moderator there but, mainly I answered any of the "new" posts because I never did learn how to put strikes on a members account or block them. Working full time plus made that hard but, I felt I was contributing by helping the newbies with their questions and welcoming them I truly appreciate your offer to help with questions. I'll be taking you up on that for sure! When is your next appointment?

    Post Gastric Bypass Surgery Diet

well that's good to know and I hope I don't end up with too many foods that are not tolerated well. I guess I'm nervous mainly because of the unknown. Example my neighbor has done really well weight loss wise and looks great but, she told me often she feels sick. She did admit though that she's not taking her Vitamins and isn't taking in enough Protein. Now to me, if I get sick taking my vitamins I'm going to keep trying new ones until I find one that works. I'll also try different times of the day etc to get it down. To me that's FAR too important to not do. We're already getting the surgery knowing we're malabsorbing nutrients that are needed so why would you not at least keep trying? Scary stuff there. I'm glad it's not a pain like the lapband "stuck" feeling though. OMG that golfball that would form...yowza! I'm excited and hoping things move along well so I can have the surgery and get moving in the right direction again

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days

Well, naturally my husband knows and I just told my mom (she lives 6.5-7 hours away from me but, she may come to stay with me after the surgery to help for a week) and 3 of my best friends know. I basically told them because they're going to have to cover for me at work and...they know I struggled with my band. I figured I'd tell them because I don't want the questions after about it. I told them I know it's major surgery, I know the risks and I'm not taking it lightly BUT I'm also not willing to get to 50 and still be this heavy when inside I have the energy and want to do things that I've put off long enough. That I've tried everything, including the lapband and here I am still needing help. They've been so supportive! I know that could change because people do get funny when they notice a friend who's getting healthier and feeling more confident but.....I figure that's when I know who are my true friends. At 47 I've already weaned out folks that were not a positive influence in my life - it took some hard lessons to learn to get there and I have what I believe are really great friends left and I cherish them. So I did tell a few but, definitely not everyone. You're right it really is a very personal decision and journey for sure. There are many folks out there that don't believe in it and to be honest, for the longest time I would do anything BUT this but more so because I was so scared. After researching how long it's been around and the results people have gotten, even the really bad issues that I've read about...I now know it's for me. So I know others will have their opinions and that's cool and even better if they still support me like it or not and those that leave...well...weren't really my friend in the first place. huh? You know sometimes these ad's do get in the way of the postings. Did you know that every time someone clicks on them and goes to the webpage they have to pay the site owner? That's how google does it anyway. Can get pretty pricey but, they say it really does draw a lot of business. I know I've clicked a few looking for the Protein supplements I'll be needing and the Vitamins. What kind of Protein drinks, Protein Bars etc do you like? Do you like certain vitamins too?

    100+ To Loose

Good Morning Florida friend! Wahooo 52, awesome job! Did you have a good birthday? It's nice that your hubby is being supportive. Bony shoulders....lol...guys are funny sometimes. My husband is very supportive, he was with the lapband too. When I told him, after dieting YET AGAIN this past year, that I'm really considering the gastric bypass, he said it was totally my decision and he'd support me no matter what I wanted to do. He's going to go to the informational meeting with me next week. Ummm we went this week but, it was the wrong date. HAHAHA he was even supportive with that. I dragged him into Boston and we were waiting when I looked at the meeting paper the nurse gave me and I noticed the date was 27 not 20 UGH. When she handed it to me she had said the meeting with "this week" but, that was for the support group not information group that I need to attend. HA! So I'm doing ok with the thought process of it all, doing more research, popping around the internet and talking to folks I know had it done. As scared as I am about all that cutting and re-routing, I know it's what I want to do. Some folks have had a hard time and I don't take that lightly but, many have done wonderful with it and I'm staying positive and know that I will do my best to stick to the rules and instructions they give me. I just pray it works for me. I'm not looking for "skinny" I'm looking for comfortable in my own skin...I want my outside to look like how I feel on the inside! So Ultrasound for me this coming Tuesday and info meeting this Thursday. Then I have one online info session to go through which I may do today since the guys will be out and about and I'll be home alone anyway, then all my obligations for the process will be done. No idea how long it takes to get a surgery date. I do have a vacation planned in December to Disney so hubby and I can see the Christmas set-up there but, we may have to cancel it if I get a surgery date before that and the healing is too close. I don't want to fly while still healing - I don't think that would be good. Just have to play it by ear. (Eww I hate that saying. hahaha) I saw your recipe - the first one in the recipe catagory...Yeah! We'll get more up there as we go along. I do hope others join us soon too. The more the merrier as long as folks stay supportive. I know sometimes LBT got nasty but, I generally stayed away from that type of thing and enjoyed one particular group I got close too. Still facebook with many of them Hope you're having a great start to your weekend. I have chicken and ingredients in the crock-pot already for chicken and dumplings for dinner. Love my crock-pots...yeap I have several in different sizes LOL

    Post Gastric Bypass Surgery Diet

You're right when it cames to stuff being stuck with the band. Oh Lordy that was awful, I'd walk, pace and sometimes it felt as if it were there for days. Throwing up was an issue because you knew your band could slip and sure enough it did. I wasn't sure if there was pain like the band when food got stuck with bypass. Thank you for the info. My doc did say some do and don't have dumping happen. Can't say it sounds pleasant - even the word is terrible! But...I'd still prefer that and learning from it than have a band prolasps again. thanks again!
  16. Welcome KayleighsMommy. Sounds like we all had a rough go with our bands. My prolasps really badly twice with the final time it being so bad fluids wouldn't move at all. I'm glad we're all here on the journey together and I look forward to getting to know you all.
  17. I'm looking forward to more members coming :) I love this format of forum so much better than others I've seen and I used to love being in LBT

Not going to beat you up but, did the sugar throw you off? You weren't afraid to have the dumping thing happen? If that's the amount you truly had then you did good stopping yourself so think positive. The next step is stopping it before it starts.... How about this...the next time you have a craving like that and want to give in...ask yourself...Am I physically hungry or is it my head? If it's your head then try to figure out what it is.....take in some more Water and think about it before you buy it. Now if you are truly hungry....and crave chocolate, how about making a bar out of your chocolate shake mix? I can bet we can come up with some recipes where you can do that I know folks used to do it all the time on medifast with the powdered stuff and I've tried a few and they were good. This way you won't be taking in the fat and sugar of regular chocolate? Believe me, I'm no angel...hence why I'm opting for the surgery in the first place. I didn't get here eating salads. I KNOW a craving and how powerful they can be. But with a buddy.....it sure helps to get you thinking better So.....were you truly physically hungry or mind hungry?

    100+ To Loose

Happy Birthday to you! I'm glad you jumped in. I'm currently at 255.9 per my visit yesterday. When I had my band put in I was at 277 so I've kept 22 off...big whoop-de-do when I think of where I was before things went foo-bar. Anywho...I'm nervous and excited but, I want to be back on the losing side. So I'm here for you and so glad you joined in. Who knows...may be just you and I for a while by the look of the activity in here LOL. I hope it gets busier.
  24. Oucy Leslie....glad to hear it's finally over for you. Other than that...has everything else gone smoothly?
