    Negative People Around Me...

Always remember the final decision is yours. Folks who think it's the "easy way out" or is unsupportive probably has more fear than knowledge about the surgery or the decision making we all have to do to even start this process. It's far from easy no matter where you are in the process. As much as we'd all love to have the love and support of everyone in our world it will never happen and there will always be nay sayers but, in the end.....when we wake up in the morning to the time we go to sleep, WE have to live with ourselves. We have to carry this shell, this burden we've been carrying for so long and the pain physically and mentally that comes with it. The decision is yours and as long as you've made it with lots of insight, research and as much knowledge as you can gain about it......then you're doing the right thing for you. You go girl and do what you know is right for you. Good luck!

    Roux En Y After Lapband

I'm there with you gals. I had my lapband put in place Feb 2006, had to have revision surgery Dec 2008 because of a slight slip and then an emergency surgery to remove it in Jan 2010 because of a really bad prolaps to the point where the acid was cooking me from the inside out and I couldn't keep anything down. I've gained all but 20 pounds of what I lose I'm in the process of going through the loops to get the gastric bypass or revision from lapband to gastric bypass as my surgeon is calling it. It's considered revision even though I no longer have the band. I've gone to quite a few appointments already and have 1 more visit each to the nutritionist and therapist, have to attend one post op meeting prior to surgery and have to complete reading 1 required book. The hardest thing.....I have to lose 20-24 pounds before the surgery will be allowed. I know it's so that my liver will shrink but, man this is the hardest part. Nutritionist has me taking 1 protein shake to replace a meal and to stick with proteins over carbs. Keep it low carb much like Atkins. I"d love to keep in touch with you folks as well if you're game

    Pre-Op Diet

berniec - I never liked veggies either and still have a hard time with most but, you know what's worked for me of all things? Grilling or roasting the veggies. ON the grill I LOVE asparagus..I pick the ones that are very thin, snap off the bottoms, spray them with an olive oil filled spritzer and put garlic powder and a little salt. Then lay them on the grill and cook them well. I like them a little charred so you see the lines. YUMMY. I do the same thing with eggplant, peppers, zucchini and squash. Give it a whirl. In the oven I use the same olive oil spritzer, garlic powder and a little salt on turnips and roast them. Yummmm. I never in my life thought I'd eat those white and purple things

    Broke Down

Being on the liquid diet before the surgery helps shrink your liver so the surgeon can move it out of the way easier for the surgery plus it helps keep our intenstines cleaner for the surgery. It's certainly not the easiest thing to do but, you can do it! Just think in a few weeks you'll be on the losing side of surgery

    Sooo Scared

Hey folks....I'm nervous too but, I would think if we weren't at least a little nervous that THAT would be something to be nervous about It's a big step, a big surgery and nothing to laugh about for sure but, if we keep gaining we'll have many more things to be nervous about. So good for you for being nervous. Do your studying, your research and become full of the knowledge you need to help yourself after surgery to the best of your ability. We can all help each other here too I had the lapband and had problems with it. The port didn't bother me at all, the needles to fill the band actually didn't hurt at all but, the band being too tight or too loose didn't help and then the slip was terrible. I'm looking forward to no having to have fills with this. It's a big step and it took a long time for me to stop thinking of it as cutting up my guts but, to think of it as a life saving re-routing The tool that will help me stay on plan and get healthy. That's right...we CAN do this!

Welcome everyone. I can't wait to be on the losing side of surgery. Visiting with the surgeon and therapist Thursday
  16. Hello Everyone, I had LapBand surgery in February 2006, revision surgery due to a slip in December 2008 and it ended with my band being removed in emergency surgery in February 2010. I couldn't revise to RNY then because my stomach was too inflamed. I went through an array of emotions the entire journey with my lapband and even more so after it was removed. I was relieved then depressed and what a cycle it was. I've tried yet again to diet after I regained confidence enough to try but, just like always in the end I've gained the weight I lost. I did great with my band, losing 80 pounds the first year and even with all the trouble at least I could keep it off. I have to face the fact I need help in losing and keeping it off. I started researching RNY again and now 1.5 years from losing my band I'm ready to make the move. Tomorrow is a day full of visits to the bariatric center that I went to for my LapBand. I'm seeing a nurse to start the process, bloodwork, Medical Director for an exam, Nutritionist and Social Worker..together they all decide if they believe the surgery is for me and let me know. I look forward to building friendships here to help each other along the way Wish me luck with the visit
  17. Hi startingover....sorry I missed your post. It's been quite a journey for me and I haven't been on the boards as much. The recovery wasn't bad although because I had a really bad prolaps I did have to stay in the hospital for 3 days with an NG tube. It got that bad..then I stayed 1 more day because of snow and they didn't want me traveling in it. Otherwise once I was home it was super quick and I was back to work the following Monday. So I've had to start my gastric bypass journey again due to my PCP wanting me to see the bariatric group associated with the medical group she's in. It's actually a nicer place than where I was going and I'm happy about the change now. I attended my information meeting on 3/12 and now I'm seeing the surgeon and therapist on 3/29. They said because this is still considered revision surgery the process will be quicker for me. I sure hope so, because I want to get on the losing weight side of this whole thing. I don't want to gain anymore to say the least. I'm hoping for surgery by summer...not sure how it will all go but, looking forward to getting the help to beat this weight battle.

Looking To Start The Gastric Bypass Buddy Threads

Hello KB I haven't had my surgery.....I had to restart the process. I had my lapband removed 2/2010 and went back to that surgeon in Oct 2011 for gastric bypass but, after talking with my PCP she wants me to see the bariatric group involved with her practice. So started the process back up. Attended my seminar on 3/12 and now seeing the surgeon and psych therapist on 3/29 to get the ball rolling. I was told this is still considered revision surgery so will go quicker than someone who hasn't had the lapband or gastic prior. That got me excited and I can't wait to get started. Did you get the date of your surgery today?

    Hi Everyone ;)

Congrats to you both and really soon you'll be allowed to eat something more solid. In the meantime why not take this time to research the boards and internet, learn more about the process that you're going through and how to get the best results. There are tons of books out there too. I love doing the research and getting more info...the more you know the more empowered you will be Congrats and I wish you both the best!
