What To Eat During Liver Shrink Diet?

Newman's light dressings are good. Very low fat dressings are ok I was told. I really like Newman's light Balsamic vinegarette. For liver shrinking I was told low fat, high Protein diet worked best. They recommended I use one Protein shake a day in place of a meal. Lots and lots of water!

    Vitamin B12

vamp is right..there are certain meds that need to be taken for better absorbtion under the tongue. Nitro is even taken under the tongue because it works faster for heart patients. I've yet to find a b12 with a flavor other than cherry. Wonder if there is one and if that would help you. Maybe a mint one?

    Eating Right?

funny how all bariatric groups are different. I know first out of surgery I'm suppose to try to get up to 60 oz of protein a day but, they said I won't be able to for a while.

    Recovery Time

I'm definitely taking 2 weeks off and then hoping to work at home for the 3rd week. I have to drive myself and my commute is 36 miles so I need to be totally up to par before doing that.

My Gastric Bypass Journey - 4 Months Post-Op

I don't know where your doc got those stats...my surgeon said if you work the program they way you're suppose to you absolutely can lose over 100 pounds. The issue is a lot of folks start eating the way they used to because they didn't do the "mind work" that is necessary for this new life style. Definitely research and dig more deeply. To me YOU can get to the goal you want to get to You want it bad enough, you work the program, exercise, eat your protein first and eat right....you'll get there
  14. This is very interesting. Even before my lapband I had a pre-op diet and THAT was AFTER I lost the 10 pounds they wanted me to lose. It was four days long day 1, Protein based, 2- 1 Protein shake and two protein meals, 3- 2 protein shakes and 1 protein meal, day 4 2 protein shakes and clear broth and liquids for dinner up until 9pm then nothing after that. Beats me....I'm planning on sticking with the 1-2 shakes a day with 1 or 2 meals for 3 meals total a day up to the Sunday before. Then the monday and Tuesday before surgery doing shakes only just so I know my liver will be in the best shape to go. Basically low carb all the way to surgery. PA said try to lose more, just don't gain so I'll try. Anyone else have a pre-op diet they'd like to share?

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days

The group is definitely still on. I started it when there were only very few of us in here so it sort of died down. As a matter of fact I haven't seen FLJeepgirl here for so long. She was great...I hope she comes back. Anyway...my surgery now has a date...6/6. I'm going to need all the help and support for sure and I'm here for you too

Pre-op testing all done....and I asked about a pre-op diet and I was told they didn't have one. I found that really weird. Heck I had one for my lapband and that wasn't as an invasive surgery. The PA told me where she came from had them and she's pushing to do the same with this hospital. I sort of agree with her, seems to me at least 4 days prior to surgery we should be really cutting back to keep the pipes clean ....I think I'm going to stick with liquids for at least 2-4 days prior. Seems to me it would help. I'm so nervous....excited......all rolled together. Law I may take you up on the help. Thank you for the offer. Its great to come here and know there are others out there who have gone through the process and willing to answer any questions that come up.

    The Time Had Come!

I find out tomorrow if I have to start any special diets with surgery coming 6/6. I've already been substituting 1 meal a day with a protein shake and I've found that using Capella flavorings has helped change up the shakes a bit and makes them more exciting. Being able to have fruits and veggies will be good to help change it up too.

    New To Site

Welcome Melissa. It's a great site for info from people who know or who have been there. Many are just starting the journey just like you and I'm one of them. I have my surgery date...it's June 6th. Pre-op workup for me tomorrow. So we'll be starting about the same time. Good luck with your journey and definitely stay in touch. Any questions this is one of the best places to get it but, always remember...any medical issues should always go to your doctor as well.

    Psychiatric Evaluation

Yup...Want to know why you want the surgery so they can make sure it's for the right reasons such as health, more mobility, less aches and pains etc vs because you want to get a boyfriend/girlfriend, become popular etc. They do make sure you don't have an eating disorder, want to make sure you realize it's a life long decision and they want you to know you can call on them for any questions you have afterwards. They help make sure you're in the best mindset for the surgery and have realistic goals. I really liked my therapist and only had to see her for two required visits. I had started seeing a therapist who deals with food issues outside of the bariatric center before I even started with them just to make sure I have the tools I need to make the right decisions eating wise and dealing with the head hungry issues. But then again I've gone the bariatric route before with my lapband so I knew already that I wanted to make sure I had the help with this more permanent change. My lapband had to be removed after it prolapsed really badly - I had already had it revised once before. So having gained almost all my weight back I knew I wanted the help to keep me on the right track after this surgery as well. It's been a great help. There are a lot of great books that help too. Good luck with your appointments

We didn't have workshops with Tufts. I met with the therapist and nutritionist twice each but Tufts has something called an immersion day. We were there from 8am until 4pm and listened to the therapist, nutritionist, internist, office staff talk about the procedure, what we'll go through, what happens after and during your stay etc. Very informative. Everyones insurance puts requirements on the surgery too. Some insurances require a 6 month diet first etc. Lots of factors out there depending on where you have it done and what insurance you have. How many workshops do you have to go to?

Weight Loss Surgery And Anorexia? *link*

It's important to have help all along the way. You're surgeon and the bariatric group especially the therapist to help us along the way. USE THEM! There are also many, many books out there that help get things in the right perspective. You'll be fine as long as you remember where you came from and take the help along the way. Have you had the surbery yet>
