    Gym etiquette.....is it just me......

You are correct in your fustrations. The lack of etiquette in gyms today is a lack of standards in most peoples lives. I want to be wealthy enough so I can build a gym in my own home and not deal with the stupidty of others.. I have seen the exact thing you speak of on numerous occasions as well as people not wiping down equipment after use. I guess they believe that their sweat is a gift to you. I would only say we are both over 40 and the reason for fighting has been reduced to family defense only. Now if someone tries to attack you in the gym, I say grab the heaviest dumbell or plate and put his lights out. But as for the stares and such.. eh.. let em stare, if he says he was using those I just reply. "I thought you were finshed, I'll be done in a minute". I go to the gym and watch the silliness and slackness and to be honest I am not a germaphobe but I wear gloves all the time. The gym is just a place for people to demonstrate their lack of civility and general hygene.. Keep it up you are my role model!
  2. I have been a weight lifter most of my life.. and to be honest that was one of my only reservations about getting the VSG.. Now 6 months in and 75lbs down.. I have to say that gaining muscle is not as easy as it used to be I have struggled in the gym and that was something I never struggled with ever (this may have to do with being over 40 too ). I am able to bench 315 but I notice that I can have more off days than I ever remember before. Like yesterday I made the best of a really bad day.. I was able to work out with 200 but everything seemed to hurt.. Having said all of that because my diet is so Protein based I am gaining lean muscle and I am looking better than I have in a long wile.. Also I will say that I have had to switch mentalities about working out. I was always a power lifter or weight lifter.. Now I am working out like a body builder.. The main difference is form over weight. My diet is really so much better than ever before but I will tell you that I try and eat every two hours some form of protein. It becomes a chore but I have noticed on days I don't eat often I gain weight (go figure). I have also started taking creatine. Speak to your doctor but I am loving the results. I am also taking a whey protein with BCCAs (branch chain amino acids) a must if you want to gain lean muscle. I am looking forward to not only being slimmer but the most well built apearing me ever..
  3. There were alot of reasons. My dad became a 500 lb invaild and was a burden to the whole family till he died I reached 375 and I had a 2 year old daughter that I would rather have grown up with out me than to have lived with me being the burden my dad was I have had several severe injuries that were making it harder and harder to excersize and I needed help I wanted to be an active part of my family and not be the dead weight I was becoming. I have a beautiful wife and always felt she deserved better after some serious prayer, I believe this was the right thing to do!
