I'm sorry this is happening to you, Bonnie As soon as I read what you wrote I said I'll bet anything this friend is jealous as heck. I know it hurts and it doesn't do any good for me to rattle on about what a wench she's being (though I do think that). Vent all you want here - we'll be here for you

I agree with the person above me. That is not a friend. All of the people I have told have been supportive, those are friends. I'll support you! Everyone who is on this sight needs someone. I'll be there for everyone! Stay strong your true friends will be there for you in the end.

My doctor gave me a fabulous statistic, that for me, really puts things in perspective, and helps calm the nay-sayers:
"Stunkard and McLaren-Hume's 1959 study of 100 obese individuals, which indicated that, 2 y after treatment, only 2% maintained a weight loss of 9.1 kg (20 lb) or more (1). More recently, a New England Journal of Medicine editorial titled Losing Weight: An Ill-Fated New Year's Resolution (2) echoed the same pessimistic message." Source: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/82/1/222S.full
I have one hundred pounds to lose. If only 2% of dieting folks are successful with 20lbs, how successful do you think I would be at losing 100lbs??? Do those people think I am magically in the top 2% percentile of weight loss capability? Um yeah, probably not.
    One more statistic, from Wikipedia:
"In general, the malabsorptive procedures lead to more weight loss than the restrictive procedures; however, they have a higher risk profile. A meta-analysis from University of California, Los Angeles, reports the following weight loss at 36 months:[5]
    Biliopancreatic diversion — 117 Lbs / 53 kg
    Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) — 90 Lbs / 41 kg
    Open — 95 Lbs/ 43 kg
    Laparoscopic — 84 Lbs / 38 kg
    Vertical banded gastroplasty — 71 Lbs / 32 kg
The maximum weight loss occurs in the first 10 months after surgery. More recent studies have demonstrated that the medium (3–8 years) and long term (> 10 years) weight loss results for RYGB and LAGB become very similar.[23] However, the range of excess weight loss for LAGB patients (25% to 80%) is much broader than that of RYGB patients (50% to 70%). Data (beyond 5 years) for sleeve gastrectomy indicates weight loss statistics similar to RYGB."
.. So there you have it. I'm not doing this because its easy. I am doing this because it will work. I am doing this because I don't want to putz around for the next decade trying to diet and winding up as a failure. I want my life back and this is statistically the best option I have available to me.

I know how u feel. Im 6 months away from my date march 4th but. The people that do know ,some are tryn to talk me out of it. I want few ppl 2 know but ill just say a step family member of mine like 2 open their mouth n talk about my choices behind my back which is 2 faced because this person was first on my side but because she can't get the surgery done her self she feels the need 2 push me down. But no matter what anyone says I'm making this choice for my self because health n my body are against me. I try n make the best food choices, I log what I eat and how much and also log my work outs(dont have a gym so I walk to random places). I lost 5lb on one month. Surgeon wants me to lose 10 to 15 pounds n keep it off.. Till my date comes im ignoring the things I dont want to hear. Positive people only

I've had a few people try to talk me out of it with the same line "way can't you just do it alone" they don't seems to understand that for many of us food is an addiction. I personally sit at my desk at work each day counting down the minutes until lunch time because I'm starving yet I ate Breakfast 2-3 hours ago. We know it's not going to solve all out food issues but it most certainly well give us a tremendous head start in the right direction. Ignore them all. I'm a few days away from surgery as well. Good luck! Just like about all he exciting things you'll be able to do afterward.

    Hey there,
My suggestion is that you ask lots of questions, research the heck out of the subject to know what you are getting into and prepare yourself mentally for it. This is a big deal and not something to go into lightly. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make sure that you are 100% all in! Ready to make changes! Changes in the way you eat, changes in the way you drink, changes in the way you cope with things, changes in the your physical activities, changes in the way you socialize and a lot of other changes that you have to be ready to make. But guess what? Once you make these changes, you will begin to see changes in you! Changes in the way your body looks, changes in the way your body feels, changes in the way people look at you, changes in your health, and those changes add up to make all those other changes worth it!
So, get prepared! That is my advice! It is going to be a great ride!
