    !!RED FLAG ALERT!!
You can't do this to yourself. If you were a bio major, then you know the body is going to hold on and release fluids all day long. It makes absolutely no sense to weigh yourself more than once a day. As was suggested above, stop weighing yourself. It will do you no good. Will the information the scale returns change how well you comply with your diet? What kind of a diet do they have you on?
I was on a lean and green with Protein shakes for 2 weeks. My surgeon told me afterwards how I must have been compliant with the diet because my liver was so easy to work with.
All you can do is your best. Ditch the scale altogether and just do the right thing. That is all you really can do, anyway.

Unless I am wrong and missed something the pre op liquid diet is not about weight loss, but shrinking fat in your liver. Weight loss is or is not a side effect. Do not worry about the scale at this point. If you are this upset now, then get some help before surgery. Because you aren't always going to lose weight post op. Will you lose? Yes. Will it be what you want? Only time will tell.. Will you lose all the time until it is all gone? NO!!!! There will be stalls. There might even be times you gain. But if you stay the course you will get there. Do not be discouraged so early out. This is a LONG HAUL deal. Re-evaluate if you are truly ready if you are so heartbroken at such and early point... And I do wish you much luck and success if you continue!

I am nervous and excited. I have been heavy my entire life. I can remember as far back as age 4 and having to shop at Sears in the Pretty Plus sizes for girls. Tomorrow will be the start of a new life for me. I would appreciate all your thoughts and prayers.

Linda, you are so right. I often say I'm glad I didn't stumble upon this forum until after my surgery. While the positive posts would've helped, I'm sure the negative posts would've scare me too. It will be 1 yr since my sleeve & I've had nothing but positive experiences. So Yoly, trust your doctors, follow their guidelines & you'll do well. Good luck, sending prayers & positivity your way!!!!!

Hello Ladies, it has been awhile since I have been on this site. I sure hope everyone is doing well and by reading the lastest postings I see that you are. It has already been 7 months since my surgery and I am now down 98#. I was hoping to be down 100# yesterday but that did not happen. I have thyroid issues, taking med for it and my weight loss is a littls slower because of it. I am not complaining (well maybe a little) but I am so happy to be down 98# at this time. I see that some of you are having trouble with Protein intake outside of shakes and I must admit I am too. Starting last week I have limited myself to 1 Protein Shake a day and I make it my Breakfast because it is just easy for me to do it that way. I always did hate breakfast and I get sick of eggs so a 30 gram of protein shake is how I start my day. I am still getting some of my protein from cottage cheese, greek yogurt and low fat cheese. At least once a week I have beef chili and once another night I might have grilled chicken breast. Sometimes I will make it turkey but for some reason turkey is not tasting too good to me anymore. I have starting drinking V8 juice low sodium 8ozs a day to help get my veggies in and I have serving a fruit a day and that is it. My fruit is usually cantalope 1/2 cup or watermelon 1 cup. I am afraid to eat anything more than that. The watermelon takes care of my sweet tooth and I did not have it everyday.
I have tried the Quest bars since they have 20 grams of protein from GNC but I did not care for them, I tolerate them but that is about it. The holidays are coming up soon and I am so afraid. I am doing Water arobics 3 times a week and I am getting to the point I need to add something along with this. I need to get myself a part time job soon!!! I do not care what it pays I just need to do something. Take care ladies,
    Cheryl

Faye, forget about counseling, you and Tony should open a cooking school for dummies. Your advice is great. Thanks! I have new hope! For sure, I microwave ... how else to heat up my frozen Marie Callendar dinners. Yum.
I've always wanted to fix fish but never knew how. I actually like seafood, especially salmon. I'd love to find a recipe like the salmon I had in Las Vegas once. OMG it was what turned me on to salmon. It had some kind of sweet glaze (maybe cherry). I have been jonesing for it for years.
As to the crock pot. Are you ready for this? I have one sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets, out of reach. I had it on my dining room table for a while because I really wanted to use it. Another case of having no clue and being intimidated by the idea of browning the meat first.
Part of my problem is that I cannot get into my kitchen. It's too small and I'm too big. That plus, the attendant I have cannot cook a lick. I have taught her how to make things like grilled cheese sandwiches, eggs, etc. But if anyone can ruin food in a flash it's my Ana. Based on that, I'm afraid to try and direct her to using a crockpot, especially since I know nothing about it.
In my life, there are two roads. One that I travel on most of the time, doing things I'm really good at. The second road is things I'm really bad at ... like cooking. I actually used to be a decent cook, but never got that into it. Never had a family to cook for. My father was a gourmet cook, like you. His brother was a chef. I grew up eating pretty tasty food. But my mother was nervous about having someone in the kitchen, so she never taught me to cook. I don't have any of her recipes.
There's other stuff I'm bad at on the other road. Like sewing, in fact anything domestic. A goddess I'm not. I'm a great driver, I played and won tournament Backgammon, can do math in my head, a good writer, excellent at research. Champion swimmer, Water ballet, great dancer, super creative, inventive ... things like that. Competition and creativity ... outside the home.
I'm just as bad at things as I am good at other things. With your help, I bet I can start eating some home-cooked meals. Yes, I use the oven a little to heat up food. It's hard to cook in it because imagine my kitchen. On the right is my fridge, right next to it is the oven. No room to do anything.
If you're willing to answer a bunch of questions, I'm sure I'll be able to cook more.

    Kate,
I am going to disagree with your assessment of my eating habits. I believe I HAVE found what works for me. I love Protein drinks and it is a good way to get my Protein. To get enough protein on a full Vegan diet you have to eat a lot of weird food that I don't like any better than I like meat or fish. I eat my cottage cheese, eggs, plain greek yogurt etc and I am happy with it. I have lost > 60% of my excess weight in 5 1/2 months and they only promise 60%. I am basically happy with what I eat. I eat some veggies every day and a small amount of fruit about 3-4 times a week.
Before I had surgery I was drinking whey Protein from Walmart for Breakfast and an evening snack and loved it. Just because I can't tolerate the taste of steak and pork chops doesn't mean I'm not getting my nutrition. I am doing what works for me. I enter every single bite and drink that I take on MFP and I get 80-120 gm protein/day and am satisfied with what I'm eating. My 3 month lab follow-up lab work was the best lab results I have ever had since I was in my 40's. So I don't think it's broke and I'm not gonna try to fix it:)

    Pre-op Feedback, Please.

My eating habits are so at odds with this new way of eating, that it’s gonna take substantial effort on my part to redo that. In preparation for my Pre-op Diet, I went out and bought all sorts of things that seemed like a good idea: Asparagus, Spinach, Acorn Squash, Shrimp, Sliced Turkey, String cheese, and of course Protein Drinks. It looks pretty and fills up my refrigerator. Then I just watch it all going to waste because, the shrimp, for example, has a deadline on how long it will last I bought a pound, and have at least ½ pound left.

Did something like this happen to you guys? I really have to learn a whole new way of eating. What I was eating before was chicken salad, Mac & cheese, chicken Soup and pizza from Whole Foods, an occasional KFC dinner and frequent takeouts from a nearby restaurant. I always ordered a piece or two of pie, also from them, because they were so good.

So, what did I eat today? I stopped at the restaurant on my way back from the doctor and got some chicken quesadillas. I know … off my diet … but down 13 pounds, I figure I could slide just for today.

When I do through something together, it looks good, tastes good, but either doesn’t touch my hunger or leaves me with no desire to make it again. One day, I made an omelet with shrimp, spinach, cheese and onion. Tomorrow, I’m gonna have a salad with the same ingredients, plus zucchini. I’ll eat a side of Acorn Squash. Then I’ll have Protein Shakes for my other two meals.

They weren’t kidding when they said we’d have to learn a whole new way of eating. Yeah, baby. Now, mind you, at the moment, I can’t get in my kitchen to cook. It’s too tiny and I’m not. So cooking anything is a chore, especially since I can’t yet stand or walk on my own.

What really killed me, though, was the doctor’s staff today ignored my substantial weight loss and only wanted to know how many Protein drinks I had a day … checking to see if I had too many? Erggg.
I think what I need is a tutorial on how to go from not cooking to eating right for my sleeve. Keep in mind I don’t cook now, and can’t do much because of the size of my kitchen.

I saw Faye’s recipe for meatloaf, which she said was delicious. However it contained feta cheese, which I don’t like. (Don’t like blue cheese either.) Sounded like a great recipe, though.

    Any easy-to-implement ideas?

Have to share a NSV, even though I'm not sleeved. LOL The other day I dug out my tape measure because I thought I should get a baseline before surgery. I have in the past measured myself, and would put it away in disgust.
So, I drag it out and start with my waist. I couldn't believe it. I am 7" smaller in the waist. WTH? I thought that was unbelievable, but then I was weighed today at the doctor's office. I have lost 13 lbs. in the last 3 weeks. I started my pre-op diet Friday, but still... I am dropping weight like a weightlifter.
As of today I have lost 63 lbs. from my highest weight. I can't even imagine how much more I'll lose as I still have 10 days to go on the pre-op. And then surgery ... Wow!

    I Have a Surgery Date.
I am leading off the month of November by having my VSG done on the 1st. This final announcement has been a long time coming. I don't know why I had to have soooo many problems trying getting this surgery scheduled. In March, it'll be 3 years.
Initially, I was going to get the lap band, and I went to a seminar by Dr. David Provost in 2010. He had been referred to as the best WLS surgeon around. At the time I weighed 425, so I certainly wanted the best.
I jumped through all hoops, completing my 3 mo. diet a year ago in October. Along the way, I had to put off surgery twice. I waited 1 ½ yrs. for Medicare to approve the Sleeve, which they finally did in Feb. 2013.
One of many wrinkles popped up, and I had to redo cardiac tests and get a cardiac clearance in February. For some reason, the results and clearance were lost until August 2013. Once found, my surgery was scheduled for Sept. 23. I did the 2-week pre-op diet and went to a Sept. 20 pre-op visit. That's when the surgery stalled again. My doctor had a meltdown when I told him I was still taking Ibuprophen. I didn't know I was supposed to stop before surgery. His reaction was so severe, I considered changing surgeons.
So I attended another doctor's seminar on Oct. 4. Yesterday, I finally learned that I would have to redo the 3-month "medically supervised" WLS diet if I went with the new surgeon. In the interim, I also continued to reschedule the surgery again with my original doctor in case I went that way.
Long story … shorter ... I am going with my original surgeon and beginning another pre-op diet Friday. Even this week, another major wrinkle cropped up when my BFF, Martha, voiced displeasure at the dates I had scheduled. To please her, I rescheduled all the dates for the Nutrition Seminar, pre-op visit and surgery. The new dates conflict with my SAT scoring, but that is what I had to do to Iron out this last wrinkle. I'm beginning the pre-op diet on Friday, and scoring the SAT at the same time. It takes 100% focus to do this work, so I can't imagine how I'll be with so little to eat. food for thought, and all that …
My life has been filled with stress for a while now, and I don't do well under stress. Often, I get sick and wind up in the hospital. But so far, so good. The side effect, though, is that it's been difficult to get everything done to prepare for the post-op. I don't have my Vitamins, and all the foods (liquids) I need.
    P.S. I just lost 3 lbs., for a pre-op loss of 49 lbs.

    Linda,
Welcome to our group. We are thrilled that you’ve joined us. Our group is small and intimate because we don’t promote it. So you kind of have to find us … which you did! Hubby can join, too, because this is open to all. We’ve had a couple of guys join, but never stay, it would be nice to have your guy bring that male perspective.
    Meet (in alphabetical order) …
Cheryl … who’s dropped an amazing 90 lbs. and manages to keep temptation at bay and hold her own, no matter how much her hubby tries to go back to old ways. She’s a very sweet and thoughtful gal.
Coco, a/k/a Connie, drops by occasionally, and always has something interesting to contribute.
Faye … our youngest boomer, has dropped 75 lbs. and looks amazing! She is working on a master’s degree, married for 5 years to her love, Tony, with whom she dreams up gourmet delights.
Then there’s Jean, our own nurse, who loves spending time with her granddaughter, Hailey. Retired from a career as a nurse, Jean has a hidden spirit of glee and is very active responding to posts. I recently nominated her to be a VP of something (can’t remember what, Jean probably doesn’t either.) <laughing>
And me, Sassy, who started the group and gotten close to several members. Aside from my dry wit, which gets me in trouble a lot, I am a retired freelance writer. Right now, I earn extra money scoring the SAT from home a couple of times a year.
You’re our 28th member, and if hub joins, that’ll make it 29. Do you have a surgery date yet? .As you can read in the post below, I am just announcing mine.
Note: Be sure to click “Follow this topic” at the top of every page so you can be notified when new posts appear. Go into your “settings” (top right under your name)and check the box for “notifications by email.” When you come online, you’ll see your name and to the left are several icons. One is an envelope, and the other is a person. Both will have red numbers when you have either a personal message or a notification to read!

Cheryl, I'm probably not the best person to respond, because I have never liked meat or fish. It is a chore to choke down 2 oz a day, but I am trying to do it. It is even more unappealing to me now than it was before. I still eat chicken breast and it has been one of my main sources of Protein all my life....so I am really tired of it. Sometimes I have to avoid the chicken for a week or two just so I can stand it again. Unfortunately for me, I like the soft Proteins, like eggs, cottage cheese, plain fat free greek yogurt sweetened with Equal. I like cheese too. For meat I like things like Chilli which is often soft. My very favorite protein is the Protein Drinks. How far out are you? Maybe your tastes will change again if you used to like meat. I wish I could start a new paragraph but the computer won't let me, so sorry that this is a series of run on paragraphs:) I think it is a good idea to try a different NUT. Yours sounds especially obnoxious. I agree that husbands don't change and all we can do is change our responses to their weird habits:) Sounds like you have a good plan. My husband was all for the surgery, but he complains now that I don't eat enough. He also likes a glass of wine in the evening sometimes. He doesn't overindulge, but he wants me to have a glass with him. I choose not to spend my calories on wine. I also have a friend who had WLS and changed her food addiction to alcohol addiction so I am even less interested in having a glass of wine. I know some people do, but I choose not to, and he complains, but oh well....he will just have to complain.

Hey! What's up? I'm new on here (just joined today). I was sleeved Oct. 1st. Today I am 35 lbs lighter than surgery day. I had a rough journey here…I lost 105 lbs over 13 months with diet and exercise and plateaued. Insurance finally covered me for surgery and I am down 140 lbs in 15 months. Got a ways to go, but I feel strong and healthy. Working out and changing my lifestyle leading up to surgery prepared me for the focus I have now.

Great job- I'm doing the same thing... Not sure how' date=' but I'm losing ~2lbs every 12hours... I'm at a 30lb weight loss as well now (since July)! Funny thing is I don't really see or know where it's coming from... Maybe my belly and legs look a little thinner? I'm still wearing sweats around the house (haven't graduated to jeans yet as I've been feeling lousy), so I can't really tell the difference in the mirror... But I suppose the scale doesn't lie!
    Way to go!
