Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?

I can imagine you must be terrified at times. Please private message me anything I can help with. I am wondering are you having follow up bloodwork done, are you getting in the right Vitamins, do you have a primary care doctor who is monitoring you? If you have a hospital (or just google nutritionists in your area or ask your surgeon's nurse for a recommendation) nearby, maybe they have a nutritionist or dietician you could call and make an appointment with. Sometimes your primary care doctor can recommend it and insurance might pay. If not, I cannot imagine they would charge much. Just make sure you are getting the proper nutrition. I say again, thank God for Bariatric Pal because even though I read voraciously, went to bariatric classes, met with the psychologist and nutritionist several times, I have continued to lear and get help from the wonderful people here.

    Hair loss

I started losing hair at 5 months and at 8 1/2 months am still losing. I did everything right, have lost weight slowly, ate healthy, and nothing made a difference. I think I was dumb enough to think it would not happen to me. Biotin, I am convinced, is a placebo.

    Being alone post-op

I figured if I could walk a block I could drive 3 blocks. I think they worry if you are on pain meds. I am not one to follow rules that make no sense to me. Plus I was bored. I think we can all pretty much judge our bodies. I see some people take 3 weeks off work and some take two days. I am glad I was in and out of the hospital really fast and did not catch any bugs, personally.

    Being alone post-op

I would so hate to be somewhere besides home. I was sleeved Nov. 18, 2013. I drove to the store the 2nd day after surgery, a short distance (was not taking any meds). I took one dose of pain med when I got home from the hospital, and I was in the hospital less than 24 hours. I was walking the mall 5 days after surgery, slowly. You will be resting, can take the small dog out if you have no fenced yard, you can heat a bowl of FF Soup or broth in the microwave, get a popsicle, keep shakes, Water and Crystal Light in the fridge, and you are good to go. Watch movies with your dog all day. I am 67 years old and honestly I questioned that I even had surgery. Have a backup plan in case you have complications, and always call the surgeon if you think something is wrong. My husband was sleeved 2 weeks after me, and he had no pain and no problem with the sleeve. Good luck!

    Why hide it?

Good for you. My neighbor drives me nuts. She knows we dieted but not about the surgery and is still trying to tell us what to eat. I would like to stuff a rag in her mouth. Her favorite topic is me and my husband. If I had told her about the surgery even the mailman would know.

    Anyone Else Nesting Before Surgery?

I call it cleaning house and keeping busy which takes my mind off food, even now. Good luck.

    Hiatal Hernia Repair

We did not ask, we both had hiatal hernias and they were both repaired when in surgery. Choosing a competent surgeon solves the problem.

how much can you eat with the sleeve longterm

You will be able to eat all day if you want to. My husband has said he can eat anything, he just chooses not to. The sleeve gives him the tool to eat healthy since he is not hungry. You can eat french fries, ice cream, pizza, you name it. You have to be ready to not bring these into your home. We were both sleeved and honestly since I don't have children at home I am blessed because there is no bread, carbs and sweets around. But even with children, you can try new things for them, smoked turkey wrapped in lettuce instead of bread. It is still going to take willpower and you can do this. I believe the sleeve stretches. But also you can make it stretch by overeating. It is so worth doing this. Good luck.

Never had a problem here. Maybe on your end? This site has never crashed to my knowledge. Good luck!

    Post op gastric sleeve!

I did not know there is a sugar free juice. Beware. Drink Water and Crystal Light. Gas-X. Nothing acidic. Burping helps and is normal and it helps with the gas too. Just rest, walk, and read. You will have a lot of issues, including hair loss wigs, Vitamins, exercise, food prep, too much Protein, too little protein, you are on the first phase. Hang in there and read. Best of luck.
  12. I barely cook anymore. You can buy a rotisserie chicken and make chicken salad (add nutmeg, FF mayo, celery, chopped egg and green grapes, or wrap chicken in lettuce. My husband loves smoked salmon and has it as his dinner. You can make a little egg salad. Make turkey chili with Beans and freeze in small batches. Take low sodium lowfat chick broth, add veggies (baby carrots, lentils, green beans), italian seasonings and shredded chicken, (or refried beans for thickening and protein) and make Soup. Enjoy hot weather with lowfat/low sodium deli meats wrapped around FF cheddar cheese. I am thankful coleslaw agrees with me. My favorite meal in Florida is a piece of Mahi, Snapper or Grouper, topped with Old Bay seasoning, and broiled. It just takes a few minutes. No meal planning at my house. For those of you who have families at home, crockpot meals rock!
  13. Discussed many times here. A teaspoon of refried Beans would taste way better than a teaspoon of baby food. People have to be satisfied with taste and baby food won't do it. Proteins not there either.

7 days post op and in pain :( Advice?

Fever means infection. Call your doctor. "Horrible pain" to me would mean to go to the ER.

Pain just over 2 weeks out

I guess my husband and I were the lucky ones with no pain at home one day after the sleeve. Just always remember when in doubt call your doctor, do not ask non-medically trained friends here. I have seen thousands of posts where people had to be urged to go to the ER. Good luck and feel better.
  16. Keep it simple. Refried heated from the can is delish. Top with Laughing Cow cheese, or taco sauce. Later on make your own beans from dried or canned. Cook with FF chicken broth, celery, onion, bell pepper, season any way you cant. Love lowfat chili cooked with beans and ground turkey. Thank goodness I can tolerate spicy.

    New Here

Hello there! Many of us had the hernias repaired so it is pretty common here. My husband and I are no longer on Metformin, and Diabetes was the worst of many issues for my husband. I would say his diabetes is under control finally, however he is still on insulin 8 months after the sleeve. We are each off 1 BP med each, and I no longer use the asthma inhalers. He also does not need the cpap machine anymore. The benefits are amazing and we would definitely do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

    Feeling Sooooo Discouraged ;(

LOL. So happy for you! Now you can get healthier! Any idea when the surgery will be? Trust me, this time will pass quickly. Keep busy and good luck.
  21. We tried a soft scrambled egg about 4 weeks, no problem. Try again in a couple week. I love yogurt for Breakfast.
  22. You all keep talking LOL, about your wins, losses and challenges!
  23. Ann, what a compliment. I feel so worthless, really. But tell me any way I can help. I am a loving woman, wife, grandmother. Linda, I may move to Florida so you can be MY coach.
  24. Trust me mi75, that at about 6 months I quit losing. I was 220 lbs, close to you. I cannot exercise except swim. Follow your diet. My husband is still losing, but not me. The honeymoon phase is over for me but I look and feel wonderful so I am happy. If I eat too much (not really overeating) I feel miserable. So I still have help in making sure I do not overeat. Best wishes and keep up the good work. Linda
  25. Helloooooo down in Orlando, I am in Jacksonville. I will lead and guide you any way I can! My husband and I were sleeved the end of November 2013, and are doing great. He has lost 100 lbs in 8 months and is fabulous. I am also great. We have never had a problem with the stomach/sleeve, never been sick, never thrown up, and would do it again in the snap of a finger. How can I lead you! We are 67 years old and life has changed 100% for the better.
